I played a lot of LoM back in the day. This sounds like a interesting project. I would be very interested in in learning a bit more about how you plan going about making your conversion.

Today I added art definition for every faith... That had to be the most boring thing I've done in a while. Hopefully (Though I'm sure of the contrary) I haven't missed any.

lol I know how you feel...

I have been keeping an eye on this.  When this crosses over to [eMod] status from [eWip] I will of course add this to the list...

Keep up the good work!

Downloaded Notepad++

You've probably already done this, but just in case (since it's buried in a submenu), you probably want to enable the XML Tools Plugin.

  • Go to Plugins --> Plugin Manager --> Show Plugin Manager
  • Select the XML Tools plugin, then click "Install"

Note that you must have enabled plugins when you originally installed Notepad++ (they're turned off by default, IIRC.)

This will let you do neat things like pretty-print your XML, and automatically check it for well-formedness.

If we had a schema (hint hint SD ;) ) it could do even more validation...

Out of curiosity, is that temple using one of the game's existing art assets, or did you add it?  Looks great, btw :-)

As far as brainstorming - you've set a bit of an exclusionary filter by specifying that this is trying to re-create a game that many (most?) haven't played...entertaining to watch the progress though.

If I may be so bold as to make a request/suggestion - perhaps you could divvy up the things you're creating ala-Children of Storm so that once you're done, people could pick and choose pieces? For instance, I might want the extra items, but not especially care to add all the new factions. You might even get people to playtest parts of it sooner if it can be piecemealed out vs. a total game conversion type of thing.

Obviously that requires some extra forethought and effort on your part, though, so feel free to cheerily ignore the suggestion.

BTW - on the subject of faction unique buildings - I believe Children of Storm's Lizardmen faction has the ability to build a unique dragon-cave (I think it uses the sovereign resource idea you mentioned above.)  There are other faction specific buildings too - e.g. the Living Stone build special Fire Temples. If you haven't already siphoned off all the ideas from there :-)

(Plus you will likely [definitely?] need some CoS files to play XtraLOM [I'm thinking, particularly, the Library: A_LHLIB_UnitStat_BG_vF which I have in my CoS folder and which definitely modifies how my own mod interacts w/ the vanilla version --> My guess is that all people who will try my mod will have CoS installed so that's why I'm using its features] )

That's actually Heavenfall's UnitStat Background mod, which is separate from CoS (CoS has it as a dependency.)  Available separately here:

As long as you don't use stuff outside of that, people won't necessarily need CoS itself installed.

Oh, and thanks, glad to see you're using that design principle :)

I'm following this... even if I haven't played LOM. =)  I really like your mods, their creativity and the way you expand the game to the maximum extent of the modding system.

I just noticed this mod for the first time a few days ago and will be keeping an eye on it.  LOM was one of my all time favorite games.  I am very interested to see how this progresses.

Nice job.  I am curious to know how you plan to implement the champions?  For the storm giants I am imagining blue skin, long white beards, and the permanent appearance of a growth potion.  I cant imagine how you would handle fairies... if that's even possible.
