Still Into You

Album: Paramore

Year: 2013

A long-term relationship has remained new for Hayley Williams in the flaunting “Still Into You.”

A murmuring drum opens the single, setting an anticipating tone.   She runs her finger on the calendar for the week of the 14th. Is their anniversary on the 17th or 18th?  It’s been so long already, she sometimes forgets exactly what day. He’s the detail-oriented person in the relationship. After eight years later of being a couple, he still buys her five pink carnations just because. During their phone call on his break, he was upset. He had been running late (again) due to traffic and had gotten reamed out for it at work. On her day off, she had planned to head out to the mall. However, she’ll cut her trip short by a couple hours and add a stop at the grocery store to pick up some lamb chops. It’s his favorite dinner. When he’s frustrated, he’s careful not to go off on her. But the minute he said “hello” to her, she knew something was really wrong and braced herself. She’s learned not to take it personally. Everyone has their faults. However, he’s a great guy and she wouldn’t want anyone else. (“Can't count the years one hand/That we've been together/I need the other one to hold you/Make you feel, make you feel better/It's not a walk in the park/To love each other/But when our fingers interlock/Can't deny, can't deny you're worth it.”)

In the pre-chorus, the eight years seems short. (“Cause after all this time/I'm still into you.”)

In the chorus, when she’s catches him glancing at her, she still gets excited. They’ve had some nasty fights where both slept in separate rooms. At first, people thought they were too different. They both have the same emotional temperant and he can read her  without missing an expression. It’s been that way since they first met. (“I should be over all the butterflies/But I'm into you (I'm in to you)/And baby even on our worst nights/I'm into you (I'm into you)/Let em wonder how we got this far/Cause I don't really need to wonder at all/Yeah after all this time/I'm still into you.”)

As she’s brushing the marinade on the chicken, she hears the key turn in the lock and he enters their home. His face is downcast as he hangs his coat up. He gives her a kiss on the cheek and she asks him how the rest of his day went, if it got any better. He sits at the kitchen table and shakes his head. He tells her he fumbled over his words with a group of co-workers. She asks him if he remembers the first conversation she had with his mom. He nods, the evening still fresh in his mind. She had been rambling and had ended talking about how she was a lapsed Catholic. His mother frowned and then it had occurred to her: she attends church every Sunday. However, he had her back. Once he dropped her back home, she thanked him and said she loved him. He was relieved. INXS’ “Need You Tonight” came on the radio. He whispered the lyrics at first but she broke out into a dance. It was then that their relationship truly became serious. (“Recount the night that I first/Met your mother/And on the drive back to my houseI told you that, I told you that I loved ya./You felt the weight of the world/Fall off your shoulder/And to your favorite song/We sang along to the start of forever.”)

In the pre-chorus, she says nothing has changed since then. (“And after all this time/I'm still into you.”)

          The chorus is sung again.

In the bridge, she thought they were a perfect match from the day they met. Their affection was natural, almost second nature. (“Some things just/Some things just make sense/And one of those is you and I/Some things just/Some things just make sense/And even after all this time/I'm into you/Baby not a day goes by that/I'm not into you.”)

          The chorus is sung again.

Williams repeats two “I’m still into you’s” to close the single.

Williams’ cutesy, pouting vocals pinches his cheeks. She baby talks to him that everything will be fine. He’s her Sweetums and she loves him more than anyone else in the world. He’s the bestest boyfriend ever.

The overblown “Still Into You”  post messages on Facebook “XOXO you’re my love” every day by one half of the couple, reminding everyone how much in love they are.
