WindowBlinds Software Information

I always get these comments or similar, especially on WindowBlinds skins; "How do i apply/use this skin ?"

-Could there be a small update to the site homepage making it Very clear that you need special software to use our skins.

I get these questions unfallably on every Blind I upload, so I must draw the conclusion it´s very unclear to a lot of people that you need f.i. WindowBlinds Software to apply it.

-I want to make it clear that I am NOT complaining, just trying to make it easier for downloaders  :sun:

I have had the same questions but don't pay them any attention or I send a PM.

Suggestion. At the top left of every WindowBlind page view there is a link for the windowblinds page. Maybe the link text for this should have a bit larger text and instead of just saying windowblinds it should say windowblinds required. Or windowblinds required-home page.

I believe a lot of people do searches find the WB's and that is all they see at that moment. Hence they just download the WB, and try to install it.

People aren't reading what is already there, so another piece of text won't make a difference.

Sadly true  :\

People are still living in the XP age when the OS would apply the themes for you?  (msstyles)    :typo:

Thats funny, i never asked how to use them, however i was told that my skin would include a virus
The only thing you could do, is to include a windowblinds logo and a "Bold Font" that is bigger than the skin name as preview (2) that states that the skin is made for Windowblinds and to use it they should visit stardock.com and download or buy it.
Something like you did on DarkTrek but you will miss the second skin prev. That way they cant miss it or make a 3rd prev underneath the second.

Simply add this to your skin's description:

This skin is applied with WindowBlinds which is available here.   LINK

Or something similar.

If you have noticed, I have a "form" description for all my skins, since most of the info doesn't change. Adding the above to it can't hurt.

I think ID meant the info on the software page isn't being read.  ;)

I like to think skin descriptions are read. Maybe I'm fooling myself.   o_O

But, since I added links to my tuts on using my themes to my skin descriptions, I haven't been asked how to use them.   ;)

I used to get asked a lot.

Here's one...When uploading skins put them in a folder and include a Read Me First.txt or Important Read Me.txt. Let it read "You will need xx software to install/run this skin.

A losing battle, lack of attention to what is in front of you, can not be replaced with info that is concealed in a folder.

How about a big hand that slaps you in the face for not reading instead. Pain gets attention quick.

Still good thinking though Uvah.

Perhaps but we'll let it ride.

Been thinking about how to get a person's attention and I came up with this...

Thank you for choosing Stardock Software.txt

Inside......This skin requires, for example, WindowBlinds in order to run. Download the 30 free trial. Double click on the installer and when prompted reboot your computer/laptop. An icon will appear on your desktop. Double click on the icon to open the configuration window. There are several skins to choose from. You can apply the skin by clicking on Apply Style or double click on the skin's image......

Then you can explain the advantages of Object Desktop as a whole versus the individual programs that are included. Plus all that comes with being a subscriber like unlimited downloads and such.

Just a thought.

See DT...another thought. I must be on a roll. LOL

Another idea is to make the file .html.  Then you can have a more "rich" page with images and text.

Just an idea. :)
