Enrique Iglesias
Turn The Night Up
Album: TBA
Year: 2013
Enrique Iglesias propositions an attractive woman to sleep with him in the enticing “Turn The Night Up.”
A starry beat opens the single, setting an afterlight tone. The chorus begins the single. The pleasantries have gone well. She’s had a great day and is here with a couple friends. . He tells her they could have a good time together. It could lead back to his place but that part is entirely up to her. She tells she has to talk to her friends for a moment but she’ll be right back. He can’t wait to put his hands on her. (“Baby you it's you and me/You see, we can turn the night up/And if you feel the way I feel/We can turn the night up.”)
The beat slides, pivoting the surface with a smooth air as “gimme some of that” is repeated three times.
When she returns, he hands her a drink and tells her she has a delectable body, toned in all the right places. He could throw her down on the dance floor right now and rip off her clothes. She’s gorgeous. She may be wary but she won’t ever forget her night with him. (“Damn you look so sexy/Baby you impress me/
I wanna get nasty/Girl you got the bom bom/Take a shot, you want one/Mama I can change your life/(gimme some of that.”)
In the pre-chorus, she can enthrall him and the entire room by adjusting a loose hair on her forehead with her hand. She notices him staring and stops. He tells her not to be self-conscious. Her movement are delicate and he can’t help but watch. (“The way you do it/You got that something/You got that something/So keep it moving, you know I love it/You know I love it.”)
The chorus is sung again.
The beat slides again with two “gimme some of that’s” are inserted.
Again, he compliments her again on her body. He’s been clear that all he’s looking for is no strings attached sex and not an involved relationship. He’s certain it’s not the first time she’s ever been asked for a one-night stand and likely has obliged some men. However, each time he has tried to cop a feel, she flinched. He explains that he really wants to feel the softness of her skin on his own. She’s been with him all night. The thought has had to cross her mind sometime during the evening. (“Girl your body is effing/You know my intentions, I know you can go all night/I just wanna touch you, girl just let me touch/I know it's been on your mind.”)
The pre-chorus is sung again.
In the bridge, he calls out that love comes in all forms and everyone is free to love. (“One love/ From Madrid to Miami/From Miami to the world.”)
Part of the chorus is sung again. (“Baby you it's you and me…we can turn the night up.”)
The full chorus ends the single.
Iglesias’ hushed, wanting vocals steam up the room, misting it with an insuppressible sexual energy. He’s blatant and not even trying to be a gentleman. He’s cocky, dominating her time and won’t stop leering at her. Usually, the horny male singers salivating at the sight of an attractive woman are dismissed. However, he is an effective and enjoyable bad boy. It’s his unapologetic openness about his vulgarity, owning every second of his panting, that allows him to be the exception.
Warnings may be given but the bubbling “Turn the Night Up” has to be touched.
