Drkrun's Particle ReForge -- Updated 8/10/2013! v0.15

Prepare your eyes! Sins of a Solar Empire has not seen a good completely original dedicated particle mod since Bailknight's Graphical Mod, (Dynamic Explosions was a part of that, before anyone says anything) and I prepare to change that with my complete Particle Conversion mod intended for SoaSE: Rebellion. Because the mod will have a checksum of 0, it will be compatible with any mod that does not replace the Explosions.Explosiondata file.

Behold!

Drkrun's Particle ReForge for Sins of a Solar Empire Rebellion

It's a work in progress, but here is the second iteration, finishing off most of the Abilities, Buffs, CapitalAbilities, CapitalBuffs, and DamageEffects.

Ever onward!

Version 0.15

Gamefront decided to stop accepting my files :/ Mega it is!

Feel free to give feedback! Broken textures, laggy bits, etc.

Horrible looks, whatever.

Keep in mind that the over-arching goals of this mod are:

-Decrease lag on weapons and certain spammable abilities in large quantities

-Make the game look different but still cool

-Make ability effects more readable from a distance, fight-warping ones especially. (example: I hate the fact that the Rapture's Vengeance is impossible to see from a distance)

Videos would be way better... I can't upload them very easily at the moment, being at Wendy's and all.

Lol.

I'm downloading this either way, but are you renaming the particles to override the existing Sins particles or using your own naming system? Because the former would be way better for compatibility with other mods. I can refer you more people that way.  ;)

They override. :/

I said that's the good thing if they have the same name as Rebellion particles.  ;)

But I'd rather have an unnecessarily complicated system...

It's not too late...

Awesome. I'm sure I can make some magic out of some of these with some of the things I was showing you before. :3

Will take a look sometime in the near future.

Seeing some cool and definitely useful base material in here. I like the ideas you're trying out with the capital explosions. Looking forward to the rest!

Like Gofan said. You DO want your particles to override vanilla. Two reasons. One which Gofan already said. It will help with mod compatibility, and Two. If your particles are separately loaded along with the vanilla sins particles you risk hitting the 2 gig limit.

I know.

I have been trying to only overwrite Sins stuff in order to reduce engine strain, for example, removing all particle meshes (missiles, phase waves) greatly decreases late-game visual lag, but I have to make up for that with awesome-looking (yet simplistic) trails to distract you from the fact that there aren't thousands of little tiny meshes everywhere.

I have been adding more textures though and I need to be more careful about that...

@Iskatu glad you liked it :D

Update! Got most of the Capital_buffs, and all of the Damage_effects done, just having a really hard time with the Revelation's Reverie... I need to make an icon or something to better show off the fact that your ship's crew is in a trance that will break with damage dealt...

252 Done. 507 remaining, not including exhaust which will take a while.

I'm actually streaming my particle production process every so often:

I've finished Frigatesplosions, and a host of other effects that were troubling me.

270 done, 489 remaining.

I'll be doing some right now.

I've decided to stream M-F from 8-9 pm Central Standard Time, and I welcome all comers to critique and make requests.
