Perhaps the worst team start ever?

I've seen some pretty bad starts....but I think this may be the worst I've seen yet...

I'm orange, and green right there next to me is my ally...since it may be hard to see, I'll describe the setup...

Green's HW is ONLY connected to that moon next to my HW...the asteroid and moon that spawned with his HW aren't actually connected to it (7 jumps away)...the asteroid that is supposed to be by my HW is actually 2 jumps away (hard to see but there is a ferrous world between my HW and the roid), so between two players there is only one quick grab planet...and even more to our luck, the only planets between me and my enemy are tier 2 and tier 3 colonizables (ice and oceanic)...

I never understood WHY? On random maps is phase lane length set to be extreme random? But I never see the positive anomalies.. Only these non-existent phase lanes between planets that should be connected, and happend way too often than it should..

btw, extreme bad luck

I'm not exactly sure how the game determines what planets could have phase lanes between them, but there is a customizeable modifier for what the chance is that any given planets that could have phase lanes between them will have them. Sadly few of the premade random maps have that set to 100%, hence stuff like this.

But why? It is never actually useful to have a start like this (your average allegiance will be way lower than your opponent, and your spreading too...), maybe we should mention this to developers to actually fix it somehow?

Lol, I love the undiscovered planet just chilling up there.

That was funny however having an ICE planet next to your hw is like the best thing ever if you can pull it off.. Seriously huge advantage if you know how utilise it.

Could have been great and all but the fact that his ally has to loop around so far just to meet up with his enemy puts them at a really bad spot regardless.

Yeah that was a weirdest player position ever in a 5s game lol

Economically not the best start, yet militarily this start can net an advantage.  You have an ally that is VERY close to you, with an easily defended homeworld.  Investment in Defense structures will pay off much more and with that choke point you can actually defend something with them.  I've had worse starts than this by far, like having an ally that looks like he is right next to me, yet he really is 15 jumps away, while I have to face 2 opponents that got a start like the OP had.  So, say I had 2 capitals (a progen and a halcyon carrier, both were advent btw), and a double disciple fleet spam on my HW in about 3 minutes.

Your start means you could get a surprise 2v1 very early on and knock a player out.  I consider that an advantage any day of the week :).

I have to disagree...

Between the 2 of us, there is only one quick grab (a moon) that is one jump from a HW, and it is not on the way to the enemy...quick grabs 2 or more jumps away are all away from the enemy as well....for there to be any chance of either of us rushing pink, at least one of us is going to have to go civ labs for colonization tech (which is not good at all for rushing) because of the ice and ocean between me and pink...

That is expensive and costly...add in the extra distance that green is going to have to travel to help me rush pink, and it would not be the early, unexpected 2v1 you describe....even if it did work, wouldn't matter...they now have 2 eco players (red and yellow) that can feed pink at any time, and both of those ecos are going to be capable of feeding long before me and green have the oceanic and are actually both ready to pick on pink (who, remember, has better eco than either of us individually)...

By the time me and green would be at pink's HW (and that's unlikely in its own right), red can swing in to help at a moment's notice and yellow can always hit us in the back (probably best to pick on the roids and moons above us)...

That map was just plain broken and wasn't worth playing out.

You dont need to go CIV labs, just clear the planet or even ignore rebels on the oceanic. You have a choice of getting a lvl 3 cap ship or just skipping the militia.

I would advise clearing the ICE due to the number of militia there, free fast xp and ability to cap that planet later (super valuable ICE planet). Ignore the Oceanic planet as it doesnt have many miltia ship and generally is a waste of a gravity well.

I would agree with Carpet rush your guy and hope for the best. It pains me to say that KoKs one planet rush would be best for this scenario. Buy a lvl 3 Sova and vettes (if TEC) and just starve/kill your opponent.

I'd be skipping not one but 2 planets to get to pink...3 jumps to get to enemy with no asteroid or moon as extra eco will not work...their factories are closer and they have more resources, not to mention they have 2 potential feeders...

It's a no win situation...in retrospect you can argue what caps we should have picked and which labs we should have built, but at the end of the day we're just determining the least worst scenario...

Give light green some credit. He made Fallen_One go all the way to his homeworld and kill him off before he would quit.

Lol...I didn't know that...now I wished I'd stayed longer just to be a troll...

Saw an even WORSE start tonight...disruptor was in same boat as green above except the only nearby planet wasn't even a moon...and there were like 7 or so jumps between me (his nearest opponent) and him...

This is 2 games now where the asteroid and moon are not connected to HW and are many jumps away....other people have told me they've seen this start up too, but I don't ever remember something like this occurring before rebellion (or even early rebellion)....
