Need help with Mods.

Game can't find the mods I've installed.

Playing GalCiv 2 Ultimate Edition (updated to version 2.04) on a Windows 7 64 bit laptop.

All of my drivers are updated to the most current versions to the best of my knowledge.

Just installed the game on my new laptop, but I have been playing it on and off since just after the core game was first released, and I've used mods several times before, KHSM included, but I can't remember ever having this specific problem before.

I'm trying to add in and turn on KHSM and a few mods that add in various Star Trek races ships designs, but the game just doesn't seem to be "seeing" (for lack of a better word) that the mods are there at all.

It's like the game does seem to think they even exist or simply can't locate them for some reason.

For reference this is a copy/paste of the target line for mods form my prefs.ini file:

ModsDir=C:\Program Files (x86)\Stardock Games\Galactic Civilizations II - Ultimate Edition\Twilight\Mods

And that is exactly where I have the mods installed to... But they just don't show up at all in the game's options menu when i try turning mods on.

No matter how much I click around in the box where the mods should be listed or where I click in it, nothing happens.

It's not that they are invisible somehow, they just aren't there.

It doesn't even show the two default and example folders that were in there already when I first re-installed it.

Confusing me quite a bit why they aren't showing up. :S

You can just edit the prefs.ini to the right path

for me for example it is "ModsDir=I:\GalCiv2\Mods\APT20"

I haven't used someone else's mod before, but in the GalCiv2Ultimate/Mods folder there should be 2 folders called Default Example Inside each of these is a file called ModDescription, an XML file (shown as a text file on my laptop, as I have opened alot of game files with notepad). From my experience to create your own mod, you need to copy and paste this file into your folder, or the mod won't appear on the list of available mods. Not sure why the Default and Example folders aren't showing for you? Once you have copied this file into your mod folder, you can open it in notepad and add your mod description there. I am using the Ultimate edition on Win 7 64 bit too, but am playing Dread Lords at the moment. Hope this helps. I have only just started playing GalCiv2 despite having it for 6 years. I think its great the way you can open the planet images in paint shop and create your own customised worlds. Great game. HK
