Free For All Titan Rushes..

When playing a free for all please scout your opponents to check whether there going fleet or Titan. If there going for a titan then go destroy the construction facility and cost him 2000 credits, attack his hw, kill his population economy and kill his military labs.

The issue I'm having is people letting there opponents build these things so early in the game when there's nothing worth around to defend their construction. The end result is always a situation where all of a sudden there 2 to three titans floating around.

Anyone else experiencing this style of gameplay?

unfortunate thing, I know, I had no chance to play online most of the week (mainly weekday, from morning till evening, Greenwich+1 timezone) (3 months ago, I guess things got worse in the meanwhile), and we have to be satisfied with what comes in our way, but you cant just simply avoid lame noobs who are so disrespectful, going online even when they hardly ever defeat HARD AI and wont tell you to expect them playing like your grandma or a 2 years old child..

I personally rush deliverance engine, I find it more useful in the long run than a titan...plus, it doesn't cost fleet supply (which incurs maintenance costs).....

This is a very good point.  The folks who rush to build a Titan are highly vulnerable during the long research and deployment process, but they only way that they will learn that this is not an effective strategy is if they get caught doing it by more experienced players and shown the consequences.

And this is why the community is as small as it is. Get over yourself man, there's nothing disrespectful about being a new player. Maybe if you'd instruct them and invite them to play more they'd improve- and then you'd have more people to play with!

You cannot imagine how hard it is to handle new players who never tell you how good they are.. if they told us they are beginners we wold help them, but often it turns out in-game that they cannot even colonize the asteroids next to them in the first 20-30 MINUTES... I cant see the reason why it is impossible to ask from new players TO USE THEIR FINGERS AND WRITE IT DOWN THAT THEY ARE NEW, everyones life would be easier. But having almostv every noob not tell us they are actually new players in the sins game.. but I cant understand why would anyone go online before they even understand basic things in the game.. like how to colonize, how not to die miserably in 10minutes, etc..

Everybody just wants to play with humans, everybody thinks they can come online like its a first person shooter and camp somewhere while trying to figure which button is for changing weapons.

Today i totally ignored a noob and let him face off countless times versus my SBs and culture bombed (using vasari lol ) his little empire.

I think he had fun.

lol I forgot about shooting games (I never play them online), there everyone can go online and noone cares. Agains noobs sometimes I have fun too, doing funny things I would never be able to do against skilled ones :D And btw I like to help noobs too, but only if i like their attitude, like saying sorry i am new, can you help me? And asking questions in the game and not just failing in everything..

My six year old can play competitively in FPS games online if that says anything about the skill needed.

It's point and shoot, how hard could it be...

.:OH IT BURNS:.

But are there really people that don't colonize the asteroids within the first 30 minutes?  I don't play online but you have to do that, even against a AI...

Actually, versus AI its not neccesary to colonize your home asteroids at all. You can pull all sorts of risky stunts against the AI that would kill you for sure versus humans. Example:

You build two colony caps right off the bat, send them forward right after your scouts until you reach the mayor chokepoints of the map, colonize those, place a frig factory there and place a SB on each. You'll probably have to fend off the enemy for a good 15 to 20 minutes by spamming platforms until those two planets are well enough defended, but if you pull your strings right you can bottle up the enemy in his home system (aforementioned starter asteroids). We regularly do it against the unfair AI, afterwards you can take your time to capture the free planets you skipped before. Since unfair and cruel get lots more income than you do this can be a beneficial action for you, given you know what you are doing, but it does kinda cripple your income for some time, and you'll end up colonizing your home asteroids 30 to 40 minutes after game start.

That being said, it's nothing to try against humans. In that case taking planets one by one is important, and automatically grants you a better money flow (and I have learned how to ninja most planet types with colony frigs and platforms while my capships do the frontline work :p).

Depending on what shooter we are talking about they can have quite the skill-ceiling, too. Even if you know how to point and shoot it does not benefit you or your team if you have no "game read". I see plenty retards getting themselves killed for not knowing how to play in those FPS games I play, and those kinds of players ruin the day of FPS players just as much as they do for RTS players.

Probably not the reason, but back in the day they'd be called smurfs.

Ok, maybe I say something here from the noob point of view. First some words about me: I have sins now about one year, have all steam achivements, beaten 3 teamed hard ai's vs me alone, 2 unfair ai's vs me and also one cruel ai in several games. After that Sins became a bit borring, so I tried out different mods, wich was also fun. I still thought I am not ready for MP at this moment, but after some time I just tried. I mean everybody has to start from scratch and I hoped for a helpful community.

Before I also had experience with lots of other games like Starcraft, Star Trek Armada, Panzers, C&C, ... .

Ok my first attempt to play ended that just nobody wanted me as a new player. So I didn't tried it again for the next weeks. My next attempt was this weekend, I found a 5vs5 ffa game, but didn't tell anybody I am new, so everything seemed ok this time. After a while I decided to tell them, that I am new  just to be able to build up a fair 5 vs 5 setup. Ok right after this somebody wrote why not kicking me out and take xyz instead of me. After that they told me I should at least do 40 games vs ai before trying to play online... (Ok I think I had over 100 games  vs KI at this moment).

Ok and now you wonder why the sins community is so small. I really love the game, but I am not sure if its fun to play online with ppl like that. It would be ok when they would have asked me to leave because it is an high skill game or something. They could have also whispered to each other that I am a noob and host should kick me out, but no they punched it right into my face like "hey noob, go play tetris, no place for you here."

Before I made my first attempt to play MP I really hoped to be good enough to dont be a burden for my team, but how can I learn when I cant even get into some MP-Games.

I dont want to be impolite, but this thread also shows some disrespect for new players and other games. "My six year old can play competitively in FPS games online if that says anything about the skill needed." from ZombiesRus5 (Love your MODS by the way). Or "It's point and shoot, how hard could it be..." from P3CTankman. FPS games are hard to master, try to be competitive in counterstrike. You need to know maps, sniper positions, key points, situational awareness, teamplay,  which objects you can shoot through on the specific maps and so on. The only "easy" games are MMO games, because with enough time or money you can get anything.

Here it seems like an elitist club of pro gamers who dont want to have the burden to care about new players. Just my point after that two attempts. Maybe they don't say that they are new players just to not being kicked from the game. But I think its easy to check whether they are new or not. Right after I told them that I am new to the game, they checked and told me I have 0 games. Like I have said its no problem when somebody tells me polite that I am too new for their skill level and that I should leave, but the way I experienced it online is just beyond everything. So I am now also afraid what they will say ingame to me when I do something stupid because of lack of experience.

So I decided to play Star Trek Fleet Operations instead, met a lot of ppl there who played with me, gave me tips which  improved my gameplay. Its a nearly 10 years developed mod of Star Trek Armada 2 just for MP.

Maybe I exaggerated a bit here, but I must point out that new players, who are not sure about their skill and whether they should try MP or not are discouraged by the way they are treated when trying to join a MP-Game. Heck I also would be disappointed by seeing a player who is not able to colonize an asteroid in 20 mins, but the other one who really tried hard to learn and just wanne play and improve has to pay for this other guy which has no clue and is not even trying. I have not so much time for gaming and this two attemps to join MP cost me 2 evenings, which I could also have used to actually play something intead of waiting and finally being kicked from the game...

I would not write so much here if I wouldn't care, I will try in the future again. Just a bit frustrated atm. Maybe I just met the wrong ppl there. (english is not my main language, so sry for mistakes)

Wish you all a nice weekend guys.

Sad but true, it happens alot in certain games. I'm new to multiplayer sins myself and I'm saddened to hear that this game is similar in any way to the snobby "MLG xLegitx Sn1p3r PrO" Call of Halo: Spartan warfare 3 thugs who constantly call anyone who isn't able to get a kill ratio of 30w-1d fagg1t No0bz and refuse to let them on their team -__-

I really hope it isn't true, or that it changes.

@TeslaPhi I would say the attitude towards noobs has improved considerably since the steam sale. Hosts now find themselves under attack if they kick a new player who has been waiting for too long (unless skilled game). Also, one piece of advice I have for new players when you play AI games, do it on ICO, NOT SINGLEPLAYER! As inaccurate as the stats record is in Rebellion, it is the #1 way in determining a noob. Nobody wants a guy with a 0-0 record on their team. Demonstrating that you have 10+ games under your belt will make people hesitant about kicking you.

Also, please read this: https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/433802/page/1/

It explains all the non-gameplay stuff you need to know in order to play multiplayer. Too many times I see noobs joining a 5v5 game and immediately advocating a FFA, only to get kicked shortly after. If you follow everything in there, your chances of getting kicked is like 5%.

I play at a different time at you guys, and the treatment that I have seen to Newbs and myself experienced when I was new to ICO is appalling. When the steam sale came on and new players were ever present in ICO, I was happy to see that this game could grow. However the 'regular players' have no empathy and a lack of consideration for these new players which will in turn erode the multiplayer scene like it has done previously as I have read

I'm a mediocre player at best, but that still gives me a voice, and I have been trying to be helpful by holding matches for newbs and giving them a fair go, and I have seriously vented my anger at the 'regular and rude players' but a written message can only carry so much weight.

Lots of new players get into 5s these days. Tolerance for new players is at its highest right now!

I don't have the experience to argue with your statement. Yet if using the word 'tolerance' is anything to go by, that in itself could be off putting to the coming mp crowd. Don't take too much thought on this, it's just me being pedantic.

Couldnt think of a better word when i made the post. Some hosts will be friendlier and more tolerant and some less so.

Yea I intended to go online when I got this game but based on what I've seen on these forums my only two online games were ones I decided to play against the AI after getting kicked in the lobby (one of them my connection buggered up and so I'm 1 win and 1 quit/drop or whatever).

At least the AI is challenging enough in numbers to entertain me.
