Very odd. Problem persists:

Did a drive image restore

Reinstalled WindowBlinds

Applied permissions in ESET

Rebooted

Applied Alluminate theme (no change on start menu)

Rebooted (no change on start menu)

Could it be a permissions problem somewhere?

Also, though doubt it matters, but I do have C:\User and C:\ProgramData directed to another drive.

(I did do a drive image restore on each of the drives)

Did it change anything else?

Redirecting locations could be upsetting things.

Since you purchased Object Desktop you could use Start8 until we see what's going on with ClassicShell.

Maybe there is some kind of incompatibility with classic shell's start menu skinning?

specially when it's "glassy" skins. I hope you find a fix for it.

Just installed Windowblinds 7.90 beta on an Acer laptop running Windows 8 64bit.  Also have Start8, Deskscapes 8, & ModernMix installed.  Installed ok.  The problem I'm having is in Firefox 21.0 when maximized with a lot of tabs open the scroll arrow, new tab (+), and list all tabs button, overlap the minimize, restore down, and close button.

Suppose to look like this (Windows 8 default):

Looks like this instead (Win8 theme):

Another thing I've noticed with the Win8 theme is the system fonts don't line up right.  The text is right next to the vertical line separator with no space between. Also, is there a way to keep it from changing my fonts when applying themes?  I just want to get back window transparency in Windows 8.  I want to keep the default fonts.  I've checked the box next to "do not apply any skin system wide fonts", but it still changes the fonts anyway.

It looks like the skin needs a few tweaks.  WB8 extends menu capabilities a great deal, so I imagine we will have that improved in the next beta update.

Regarding the system fonts setting, that applies to global fonts like the desktop icon font rather than control fonts.

Actuallly, I'm a bit stumped because the WindowBlinds default theme fonts are working fine. These too should demonstrate problems if it were the alternate folder locations... I install "Venom" and it is working fine... just the "Alluminate" and "VOX" themes are causing me grief on the start menu.

Edit: Actually that may not be true. Selecting "All Programs" in the start menu brings up the install listing and a "Back" row... when I scroll over any of the apps or folders in the listing I'm also getting a "ghosting image" of the "Back" row over the listing entries:

I'm a bit confussed here as to the actual problem and hope someone has an answer. You show two screenshots and they are different sizes which may be the problem i'm seeing.

The win8 theme pic has a border all the way arond it and the win7 doesn't. If the screenshots are correct may it be the the windows8 menu is a bit smaller? That would answer the font problem and adjusting it right for win8 would make it to far right on win7.

Also wondering if all win7 skins look the same way. I don't have a fix for this just wondering if it's possible the menu sizes are different between 7 and 8. Sorry I don't have 8 so can't check that out.

Using Windows 8 Pro x64.  I changed my skins a few times and now my Windows Explorer background is totally transparent, no matter what skin I choose.  I re-installed the beta several times to no avail.  Has anyone else seen this?  Any suggestions on how to correct it?

It sounds like you altered the explorer transparency settings under backgrounds and set them to very transparent.

Installed on my Surface Pro tablet  - no problems encountered

Installed on my desktop system - no taskbar transparency in any skin. window frame transparency works fine. Adjusting taskbar transparency manually darkens and lightens the bar (full trans=white, full opaque=black, shades of grey in between). Tested with included Diamond skin. Taskbar has transparency working in default Win8 skin.

I have had only one problem with windowblinds 7.9 and that is with logitech gaming software which somereason or another won't start with windowblinds, but when I disable it logitech works again like a charm. Problem is that it won't give any error message nothing just quick loading cursor and when I look from task manager its there chewing up my resources but I can't still use the probram itself which is annoying since I'm a gamer and I need it everyday.
  • Windows 8 pro
  • Screen shot? Well that's hard since logitech gaming software won't open or show any error
  • x64
  • its not skin related problem its more like a compatibility problem between these two programs

I hope I gave enough info my english is bad I'm from finland, keep up the good work I like how stable windowblinds 7.9 beta already is :)

Found another problem with the Win8 theme.  In Firefox 21.0, a lot of times when I try grab the scroll bar, my cursor changes to resize the window.

See if excluding LCore.exe in Windowblinds Config lets it run (Posts 11 and 12 here)

Hi,

I have Windows 8 Pro 64bit on my machine, after installing and registering windowblinds the main skin selection screen comes up. I can choose any of the skins on screen when a dialog box comes up stating windowblinds not installed correctly and do I want to fix this, I click yes but no skin gets applied.

I have tried to uninstall then re-install, but I get the same error message.

I know its a beta, but can any one help on this matter.

Thanks

are you using eset antivirus? you have to allow wbcore.exe to run under HIPS rule management

ShellFolderFix doesn't work properly with WB either. It doesn't save window positions as it suppose to.

So now neither ClassicShell Startmenu skins nor ShellFolderFix doesn't work, so i i'm forced to turn off WB.

I'm using Win 8 Pro x64

Updated Info: Taskbar transparency is also not working on my Surface Pro tablet in exactly the same way as my desktop. It turns out I had simply not noticed it before because i mostly use the Metro interface with this device.

Yes thank you, applied the rule and when I select a skin and run it I get a blank back ground with only a mouse cursor on screen.

Thanks

Hi, the issues I'm experiencing so far are:

1) The address bar text (as shown in the pic) isn't displaying correctly. This occurs with the standard themes as well as others.

2) Flickering occurs inside the same address bar during some operations (like copying and stuff).

3) In windows 8 copy progress bar (with more details shown) the progress in the bar isn't shown graphically. There is not colour char to show the history of the copy nor is there the bar line that shows the current speed. Only the text value of the bar is shown. In "lesser details" the bar colour is visible. This also occurs with the standard themes as well as others. Could this be for a lack of theme adaptation to new windows 8 features?

4) And this one is a bit more troublesome for me... When doing remote desktop (to windows server 2012 from my machine) I am unable to click on the start menu corner or expand the notification bar menu because the taskbar of my machine keeps popping in front of the taskbar of the remote machine whenever I click on the taskbar. I have to use a smaller window mode in order to click there.

5) I am trying to reproduce this problem on command but haven't managed yet. I have a suspicion that the problem arises once windows 8 tries to sync backgrounds with another machine that your account is linked with (I have work laptop that doesn't have windowblinds installed). When I boot into windows the theme will have lost its textures (the taskbar and window borders will be white, the start button from start8 is still there and properly textured). The taskbar on the second screen is also slightly sunk down as to show about half of it. Re-applying the theme or changing themes resolves the issue

Don't know if this is a bug or not as all skins do not do it, but it does not occur in Windows 7, only Windows 8. Note the red markers of issues that occur when doing a search from the start menu. I know there is no mouse over image in Windows 7, but evidently there is in Windows 8 and it is overriding on the bottom panel. May be my images, but I cannot figure it out as I tried modifying this with SKS8 beta, but to no avail, nothing would change.

Blank background after installing WindowBlinds. I encountered the blank background (no wallpaper, icons or taskbar). However, if I exclude explorer.exe from windowblinds that problem goes away. However, that means my system windows don't get skinned and have a Windows 2000 look to them. I'm running Windows 8 Pro 64 bit. Video card - Radeon 7850 - Catalyst version 13.4
