My Legendary Heroes Beta Impressions after a couple hours

Hi all,

I love it on Steam ! Thanks a lot ! I manage all my games through steam and it makes it easier for me !

Well, the game is pretty awesome... As I said previously each camps needs some sort of magical creatures (like the spiders) which would be cool and makes the races more different too.

The leveling up system is totally AWESOME ! I love it ! Much better than the randomness of FE, I love all the possibilities but (yes, I cheated) once you reach the top level, you are stuck in the level up screen... only way out is closing everything through windows ! I would advise to add a possibility to level up stats too instead of skills... So if we hesitate of a choice to make, we can always level a stat instead ! I'd love to see that.

The UI... Well, I said it previously... PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, bring back the spell book UI for the spells in tactical battles :( pretty pretty please ! So much easier to find a spell that way ! *cry* pleaaase !

The fire wall tactical spell is AWESOME !!! Well, except I don't know how to cast it perpendicular to the caster ??? I mean you can cast it in like but it's not useful like that ! I'm pretty sure there's a way but how ? Or was it not implemented that way ? It would make me sad !

Please a wall of earth tactical and strategic spell ?! Pretty please with a cherry on top maybe ?

I might be annoying but I really want to see more spells that affect the battlefield because they are totally awesome ! Thanks for the fire wall :grin:

I love some of the new tactical maps I had never seen before, it really adds a lot for immersions.

Also, some tactical battles starts way too close from the opponent, there isn't much movement to do to reach the enemy... which is a bit harsh sometimes and makes bowmen to easy to reach even with a good formation. Same goes for the preparation of spells to cast on the opposing army. The closeness prevent some spell casting and force your troops to be at close range immediately and prevent the casting of buff / debuff spells. A longer distance would allow for a small "preparation" time with buff / debuff / summoning

And I really love the new systems for everything else ! It works better than before and except some minor tweaks that will definitely be fixed during the beta phase, I don't have any other request ! I love how many systems were simplified too... not that I want the game mechanics to be too simple but it just prevent some headaches IMHO ! :blush:

The new map size is pretty cool too and is definitely a plus ! Thanks a lot for this !

So here a few points by playing FE-LH:

1) Building constructions outside of the city build tap (eg: ice shard) should show at the tooltip of the build button how long it would take to construct the building.

2) Don't forget to refresh the Hiergamenon. Specially new players could get a little bit confused like reading things about different defence (like blunt, piercing etc.). Also you find the stat Sight which isn't included anymore (since FE beta??)

3) New skills, like the spear attack or the club (double attack, next round be dazed) have a 100% chance to hit. Is this meant to be? Plays a little bit weard to use my spear attack on one enemy (without standing something behind him) only because so i get a 100% chance to hit. And the description how much damage the special attack does isn't included.

4) Swarm bonus isn't explained ingame. The idea of showing an icon about the head of units which are affected by swarm is very nice (reading in stardock forum couple of minutes ago)

5) The Tooltip of Hitpoints should give information of how many HP unit regenerates in one season.

6) Implent a hotkey/button "move on" on strategic view. The new system how many rounds it take to get to your destination is really nice with such a hotkey would be even better.

7) Implent in the options Hotkeyproperties. I'm playing righthanded and to end turn with "enter" isn't so usefull. I like to have it on "Y" or maybe "F1" and other players have other ideas.

 

Overall nice Work. The new skilltrees and weaponabilitys are really nice. The new Famesystem to get your Heroes are much better than the random spread of heroes in the world. I play more and give more feedback.

3) I would need to test more to see if it is really OP, I didn't notice before you mentioned ! Although the 100% chance is not worrying me as 100% chance to hit can still be perfectly balanced (I saw a lot of 100% chance to hit in different game totally balanced)

4) agreed

5) it would not be really useful since you would use spells or items, probably leaving the party in town.

6) it would make another button not necessarily useful IMHO, though It's button I use a lot in HOMM series, It never bothered me in Elemental. Even the path of the units is really likable but I don't pay much attention to it... I can understand that players would want such features. The move on button could include moving every units at once to avoid redundancy ? Just an idea.

7) Sounds like a customize control window would be appreciated :) I'd love to see this as well.

In the end I also agree that it is very nice to have a disappearance of all the randomness of FE :grin:   TBH, I wasn't expecting this kind of change in LH and it is totally true that it is the most appreciable feature !!!

No they don't.  They used to in FE, but they made them dodge-able in LH (big bonus!)

I'm surprised people don't want to see more spells that affect the tactical battlefield to play as a defensive position or to place "traps" on some squares.

I mean doesn't it seem like a good idea to them rather than the classic damage spells and buff / debuff ? (oh ya and summoning)

I wonder why it doesn't appeal to people when I already spoke of it quite a few.

I'd like to have more feedback on this but everybody always literally ignores my ideas so I insist until I get a decent reply }:)

Well, I think that you sir are very rude and you should learn to read before answering such comments !

I have a lot of FE and WoM behind me and some problems are still there ! The ui for tactical battles is plagued since FE and I find it really frustrating ! If a change needs to be done its clearly there !

Those other "tweak" reviews are made by poeple who have more time on their hands and while I still spotted those issues, they are already addressed or will be addressed by the later as I stated but it was clearly not the point of this post. Those kinds of reviews are not enjoyable as first impressions which is what I did to compare FE and LM and state what is better IMHO and what is not.

The spells still lack of that "feeling of power", we have terraforming and curgen's volcano but I am not talking about those... Too many buff / debuff still with summonings and damage... The spells that allows you to have control over the landscape and get some time to defend a position is what the game need IMHO, spells to scare poeple with our domain and maybe fool them to get some more precious turns !

So, sure there ate strategies out there to be victorious without any of that but it kinds of removes the "powerful wizard" feeling... You know spells to play psychologically and makes diplomacy more interesting ! Without having to kill armies ! What is the useaid an ally you practically killed ?

Same goes for tactical battles, playing spells to outwit an opponent is more fun than killing them with a big "top quality army" ... Solutions ? Spells affecting the field and terrain helping with diffent bonus -malus ! Like forest concealing bowmen.

Then there was the addition of magical creature to every race because in a fantasy world, you want to be able to do that ! And the spiders were a very good start adding lots of fun.

I still find the game great and I'm enthousiastic about it but there's room for improvements (as usual youll say) and not only tweaks ! It's the what you like to see added to make the game more enjoyable ? Requests for tweaks are litteraly everywhere on this forum ! 

I wanted to write something nice and the great stuff of LM rather than starting with complaints which are boring to read sometimes and reading about a pikeman being OP doesn't make me want to read further than the first post ! Pike man or whatever else that can be nerfed.

In the future, to any post you write to anyone's thread, watch yourself and make sure to read and understand the point in the OP first rather than trying to insult poeple ! I would not have taken your answer this way should you have thought twice before writing with your bill ! Forums have rules that deserves to be read !

Who elected you to speak for all the rest of us? I actually enjoyed this review.

Don't get discouraged by this guy, Souls-Stream. Your entheusiasm made me order LH. Can't wait to get started!
