[Video] Legendary Heroes Beta Let's Play

I started a 'Let's Play' series of the beta and am really enjoying the changes. In the video there are a couple of 'annoyances' such as:

  • Difficult for colour-blind people to see the difference between the yellow and green Turn button (I would still much prefer a pop-up once a city stops production - especially now that we have the new city generic build additions).
  • Clicking hero in HUD doesn't scroll to the hero on the map
  • Not all the movement bubbles are accurate (when they loop back through a town [unless the mechanic has changed and I haven't noticed that yet])
  • Starting on inaccessible terrain in the tactical battles.
  • Some racial perks no longer apply (Kraxis ability to recruit heroes from both kingdom and empire)

All in all though, a great start to the beta process. :)

As always, a very good Let's Play. Thanks, for making it.

Really shows what I'm missing out on for not wanting to accept Steam.

Yeah, those Turn button colours are horrible for us colourblind people.

As always, excellent video!

I thought I'd highlight this part, for it's importance! We NEED A POP UP!

Oh god, no more popups!  Notification?  Sure.

Optional pop-ups for the win!!

Great stuff!  I found that Kraxis defintiely couldn't get both empire and kingdom heroes like they should, but I don't know about being underpowered.  that fortify skill is absolutely ridiculous when used to make combat lines to counter and engage swarm fighting.  4 abreast with fortify is powerful, powerful stuff.

it is still a pretty nice perk, given that you can have anyone switch in to take their place.

The only real downside to the perk is that shield bashers can move you off of the spot and take it for themselves.  It might be a nice booster for the Kraxis if shield bash didn't work on fortified locations.

I place units behind them.

Buuut then, of course, I open myself up to Impale skill from spearmen.

Pretty sweet little system brewing!

Amazing production on that 1-6 square, especially with a metal node right there.  interesting.

That square has some pretty interesting events happen to it around episodes 7 and 8. :)

Here's episode 2:

That is unfortunate, Gaunathor.  You really should give it a try.  Do you have phone service?  Do you have television service with Comcast, AT&T, etc?  They are all the evil empires of businesses, yet they are a necessary evil to get the services you need and want.  Same with Steam.  However, I think it's a fantastic service and I enjoy having all my games in one place, with auto-updates if I want it, built in forums, chat, voice, pretty much everything in one nice package.

It's a very small price to pay in my opinion for this incredibly fantastic game we have here.

Anyway, I'm probably not going to change your mind, I just wanted to voice my opinion that there's really nothing wrong with Steam, and more and more companies are getting on board with it exclusively.

I hope you change your mind.

thanks for making the LP videos :) always nice to watch you play.

2 little comments:

- the "zoom to" function for units/towns: i think the current rule is that the game wont jump to the unit if its already selected - so using the list to jump from army A to army B and back works, but jumping to Army A while it's already selected doesn't work. according to changelog for the next patch, this will be changed/fixed

- from what i've seen, the old weapon categories from FE vanilla are gone, so a unit with a club will upgrade to an axe and not a warhammer. you sometimes get weird progressions with the way it works now (i had some units in my game as gilden who were built with battlehammers, then upgraded to broadswords, then longswords and eventually to sledges)

Do you have phone service?

Yes, but only because it is included with my Internet-flatrate. I use it maybe once a month. If that.

I live in Germany, so, no, I don't. I also don't watch TV anymore. Haven't for years.

They are all the evil empires of businesses, yet they are a necessary evil to get the services you need and want.

While that may be true, I don't really need LH. There are plenty of great games I could play, including the original MoM, that don't require me to use Steam.

Glad you like it, but Steam really isn't for me. Auto-updating may be nice, but it isn't necessary for me. I grew up with getting updates via cover-discs from gaming-magazines, and later by searching the Internet. Manual updating really is no problem for me. All those other features, however, are of no interest to me at all.

Giving up on your principles is never a "small price".

Nothing wrong? How about preventing customers from playing their games, if they don't agree with the new EULA? A court order was necessary before Valve changed that. There are more things I could mention, but I really don't want to derail this thread any further.

Unlikely. If LH should appear on GOG.com, or becomes available Steam-free in some other form (maybe from Stardock directly), I will gladly pay full price for it. For now, however, I wont play it, even though I have a free copy.

Nice work on that first battle.  A little luck with that last "clink" but that battled showed the greatness of the new tactical combat system.

Nice progress!

I think it would have been better, if you had attacked the riders directly, instead of fortifying first, in your battle against the main army of the Darklings. They were swarming you, getting a bonus to their attack and accuracy against your troops. Your units should have been strong enough to kill them with one hit. You could have also used Shield Bash on several occasions to prevent the enemy from getting the swarm-bonus. Just something to consider for the next time.

Also, based on some other Let's Play I saw, the mechanics for Burnings Hands seem to have change. It now seems to affect the tree tiles on one side of the caster, instead of just one tile, so I don't think it is necessarily bugged.

In the last battle, your units were dazed because of Crushing Blow. Using Crushing Blow costs the next turn for the unit.

regarding the market (you were wondering why it's not available in your capital) - it's a town-only building and your cap is a conclave :) you should be able to build a market in your 2nd city though.

Ah. That would explain it. :)

i think the borders of your second city expanded again, so the umberdroth us now within your borders :)

don't forget that your sov has fire II - before you start pumping out troops from that 2 essence fortress, make sure to at least put up the +fire damage essence enchant on the fortress city (basically +2 fire damage is almost as good as having weapons of the next higher tier - really worth it)

great vids Da as always..I noticed when you equipped leather armor on the BEttle guy his hair poofed. Might want to point that out in your next video as the paperdolls keeping their various accessories is something that has been problem forever. Hopefully it can be addressed in this beta. Oh and if you get a chance I'd love to see that lightining spell in action..I think that one is new.

I never really get my mage unit close enough to use the lightening spell.

Here's some more episodes...

I'm not really good at spell-awareness. :)
