You know what would be awesome?

Another multi-page thread where people debate the pros and cons of steam. #:(

So I will have to use the Steam-client to be able to play? Damn. Well, thanks for the answer. It seems I won't be playing LH after all. I tried Steam before, but I had so many problems with the client, that I'm not willing to put up with it anymore.

I recommend you give Steam another go. They constantly update the client. I been running the beta version for months now with zero issues.

Well, the client is only part of my issues with Steam (although the most frustrating one). The biggest issue is the EULA, along with a couple other things. Some of it can be circumvented by just not buying any more games from Steam, just using it for the games I already have there, but a lot of it goes against my principles.

I really don't want to turn this into a Steam-bashing thread, so I best leave it at that.

So, how do we add the map pack DLC into Legendary Heroes?  Or does it only work with the original FH?  I hope not, because I don't see a reason to play FH anymore without using Legendary Heroes to improve it.

'I recommend you give Steam another go. They constantly update the client. I been running the beta version for months now with zero issues.'

Steam just forced Skyrim's latest patch on me and wrecked my current save game.  That just re-enforces my resolve to never buy another single player game that requires Steam.

As good as this looks, I'll pass.

More and more games are coming out on Steam.  It's too bad, because it really is a good delivery system.  I constantly get Skyrim updates and have never had any problems.  I'm sorry you had issues, but it is not always just Steam's fault.  I'm not a Steam fanboy, though I may sound like one, but it is not always the problem.

Anyway, you will be missing out on a fantastic game of Legendar Heroes here!

Steam does have an option to 'Always keep this game up to date' or 'Do not automatically update this game', which I am choosing for Legendary Heroes, as I'm not confident about updates not breaking saves.

I really love the way Stardock is supporting those who bought into this game early. It's truly fantastic.

But...

I now have Galactic Civilizations I and Galactic Civilizations II and all expansions for both, bought from Stardock that now require me have Gamstop's PC app.

I have Sins of the Solar Empre and all expansions, bought from Stardock that now requires Gamestop's app for the earlier stuff and Steam for the most recent expansion.

And now I have Elemental, also bought from Stardock, the latest expansion of which also requires Steam.

I bought these games from Stardock because I wanted to support Stardock and in particular Brad's enlightened attitude toward DRM and how it punishes legitimate customers. If I wanted to support Gamestop or Steam, I would have bought from Gamestop or Steam.

However legitimate the business decisions and restructuring have been at Stardock over the last few years, I do feel like I've been the victim of a bait'n'switch to a certain extent. I don't want these 3rd-party apps on my systems and, with all due respect to some of the other posters, the fact they have no problem with it doesn't negate the fact that I do.

I really, really encourage you to pursue releasing your catalogue on gog.com. I will buy every single one of these games again via gog.

I once owned many Stardock games. I would like to again.

Well, you can click the button in the Steam GUI. What it actually does is a bit of a mystery. Certainly, it often doesn't work as advertised.

I love steam, never had a problem and I love having my games with me where ever I go. It's mind numbingly easy to keep games from updating, I do it all the time when not at home. Works great without internet access, never had a skyrim issue and I have easily 25+ mods running. Just gotta figure out the incompatable mod....

Thank you for releasing this on steam!! And thanks for the beta!!

Beta is very nice, well worth the money. I particularly love the new level up system.

Proof of this games' goodness is the fact that I don't want to go to bed... but I have to. Looking forward to playing more tomorrow night!

That is a good point and I agree with you. I prefer a popup box telling me if a patch is available for install. Most games I don't worry about it, but Skyrim I do (got the patch yesterday). I have a ton of mods installed; very easy for things to go wrong.

A Gog release would certainly be nice. :) Maybe Stardock will consider it someday.

I don't have an issue with it releasing on Steam. I have an issue with it releasing only on Steam.

My dislike of steam is that at times I have to be online to play games.  Yes I know there is an offline mode, and I use that for when im out in BFE drilling for oil, but at ttimes Steam has caused me no end of trouble.  However, it also runs pretty slick when its working.  I think the fact that you have to use something other than just buying it from Stardock and DL'ing from them, is the reason peps get upset.  Steam either works great for me or doesnt work..requiring a re-install of it.  NOt a big deal when im home and can use my uber fast cable, but on my Hotspot it can get dicey.  Still, STeam is far better than Origin, or whatever that EA one is called.  Wow was that nuts for ME3...here I had the disks, but still had to download a bunch of it from them...then it wouldnt let me go offline, so I said adios to it.

I'm what you might call a Steam newbie, having only installed and used it for Skyrim.  In the past, when beta testing Stardock products (GC, GC2, EWoM, E:FE) I've installed them on several machines that I own in order to be able to test on different hardware/software combinations.  Is that still allowed (legally, that is) with this release of E:LH on Steam?  I've read through the Steam license and didn't see a restriction on installing a product to a single machine, but I might have missed it.

Oh yeah, Steam is far better than Origin. Origin is just ludicrous. There's malware coming out of eastern europe that has more value for the end user than Origin.

And yeah, you're right. Stardock even has their own perfectly fine download/update app that does that and only that. But it's now got to the point that of all the games I've bought from Stardock, I can now only use their own app for precisely 1 of them.

It doesn't always work Derek some updates ARE actually forced on gamers even when you turn auto-updates OFF.

Quoting crimsongekko, reply 6wait, is steam SUPPORTED or REQUIRED? i.e. am I forced to install it to play LH?

LH uses Steamworks, Steam will be required.

Then Stardock has lost my business for I won't play any game that requires Steam.
