Enrique Iglesias has met a girl he can’t live without in the gooey “Finally Found You.”
Store bought synths open the single, setting a familiar tone. He states he will eventually date her. If it means waiting for awhile and giving her time, he’s will do it. He’s aware she’s been abandoned by people she’s cared about. He assures her isn’t going to leave out of nowhere one day. He’s not going to be like everyone else who has been in her life and let her down. (“You know I'm gon get ya, yeah/Whatever it takes to get there/No I won't drop you/Like everybody else does.”)
In the pre-chorus, he tells her not to worry about what her friends think. With her last relationship, her friends would crash her dates with her then-boyfriend and then insult him the entire time. He’s not going to let her friends sabotage their relationship. He will hold her hand and blend themselves in a group, avoiding them until they go away. He’s been wanting a girl like her for a long time. (“Forget about your friends they don't care where we go/If they do, we'll get lost in a crowd of people/I've been looking for you forever baby we go/Together baby we go, we go.”)
In the chorus, he believes there are only a couple of choices which influence life: marriage, children, career and where to live. He wants her to be a major part of his life and included in every important aspect. He’s honest with her and couldn’t even fathom lying to her. The hurt look on her face would kill him inside. The day he first laid eyes upon her she was searching for the building for next class. She had seen him staring and had smiled back at him. He couldn’t help but be mesmerized. (“In this crazy world of choices I've only got a few/Either you're coming with me, or I'm coming with you/Cause I finally found, I finally found you/You never have to worry if what I say is true/Girl I've been looking for you/And when I saw you I knew/That I finally found, I finally found you.”)
The rubbery beat springs back and forth for about 30 seconds.
He plans on being with her. They share a special relationship which he has never had with anyone else. He wants to make her feel safe and comfortable with him. (“I'm coming I'll get ya, yeah/We have a connection, that's right/Cause girl I'm not letting go/I'm gonna make you feel right, oh yeah.”)
The pre-chorus and chorus are sung again.
The rubbery beat returns for another 30 seconds, as he says “I finally found, I finally found you” over it.
In the bridge, Sammy Adams raps he wants to be known in music. He’s in the club, groping a girl’s bottom in one hand and a drink in the other. Eventually, in his drunken stupor, he forgets about the girls and starts dancing on the floor. When the DJ plays his single, he gets excited and his drink goes all the place, causing other people to slip. He’s touring and trying to get a fanbase going. He wants his girlfriend to come along. He tries to convince it’s an experience they can enjoy together and they will be alone all the time. (“Yeah, so can I get love, too much to ask for/Really so tough/Find yourself moving with sex of the drums/Got my hands full, grabbin' all these girls, girls/Hands up, hands up, dance floor chillin' while I hold two cups/Can't stop spilling, cause I'm drunk as fuck/And my song comes on, and the club goes nuts/ Every time the side goes, seems to ya sleep, best that to ya know/Running around, and doing all these shows/Round the whole globe, I come, and you go girl/And you need to think of it/Just wrap for the night, baby live a bit/With a place to hit, and your pants to zip/You can make a scene and party, are you into it.”)
The final chorus ends the single. (“In this crazy world of choices I've only got a few/Either you're coming with me, or I'm coming with you/Cause I finally found, I finally found you/Finally finally finally found you/Finally finally finally found/Finally found, I finally found you/You know I'm gonna get ya.”)
Iglesias’ mushy, clingy vocals are smothering, engulfing her in his constant devotion until neither have lives outside of the other. While it’s commendable he respects her, he needs to back off a bit also. Otherwise, he’s headed for disappointment when problems and fights occur.
Adams’ rap, bumbling and unseasoned, is assuming. It’s premature to talk about touring when there isn’t even an album yet.
The threadbare “Finally Found You” has snags and holes in its cheaply made material.
