Kesha hits on the lead singer for a local band in the reckless “C’Mon.”
Honeyed “aahs” and a crushing beat open the single, setting a buzzed tone. She and her friends have been hanging out at the bar since 5 pm. She’s been waiting for the band to arrive. She sneaks a look from the corner of her eye of the lead singer at the jukebox, surveying the crowd. She picks up her vodka cranberry and waves goodbye to her friends. She walks up to him and flirts, asking what song he was going to choose. He introduces himself but she replies that she knows he who he is. His band is playing tonight and she and her friends came to see them. She explains they have been taking shots and dancing around. Not on the bar. Yet. He smiles at her and she blushes, feeling like she was at the cool party and the quarterback told her she was pretty. She’s wearing her party clothes – a crop top and short shorts, showing off her flat stomach and long legs. She mentions they’ve only touched each other arms. However, she wants to sleep with him. (“Saw you leaning against that record machine/Saw the name of your band written on the marquee/It's a full moon tonight so we getting rowdy/Yeah we getting rowdy, getting rowdy/Feeling like I'm a high schooler/Sipping on a warm wine cooler/Hot 'cause the party don't stop/I'm in a crop top/Like I'm working at Hooters/We been keeping it PG/But I wanna get a little frisky/Come gimme some of that yum, like a lollipop/Let me set you free.”)
In the chorus, she tells him a one-night stand is what she wants. She has a thing for lead singers. He says no but she tells him that it’s not a big deal. It’s just for fun, nothing more. (“C'mon 'cause I know what I like/And you're looking just like my type/Let's go for it just for tonight/C'mon, c'mon, c'mon/Now don't even try to deny/We're both going home satisfied/Let's go for it just for tonight/C'mon, c'mon, c'mon.”)
They head to the back of the bar, near the band’s dressing room. With his keys, they write Kesha + Tommy 4-Ever and then leave to go the liquor store. They pick up some beer and shoplift some gum. They are laughing loudly, getting dirty looks from the people in the parking lot. She feels in control, like an animal who caught its prey. She teases him, telling him to make sure he bought a toothbrush with the condoms he bought. She leans in to kiss him and reassures him it’s all right. (“Write our names on the wall in the back of the bar/Steal some bubblegum from the corner Maximart/Yeah, we laughing like kids causing trouble in the dark/Causing trouble in the dark, trouble in the dark/Feeling like a saber-toothed tiger/Sipping on a warm Budweiser/Touch me and give me that rush/Better pack a toothbrush/Gonna pull an all-nighter/We been keeping it kosher/But I wanna get it on for sure/Come gimme some of that yum like a lollipop/Baby don't be scared.”)
The chorus is sung again.
In the bridge, the beat slurs as she says she has no interest in sleeping. She wants to have fun and do dumb stuff. The future seems so far away and overwhelming. She’d rather think of what’s happening today and leave it at that. (“I don't wanna go to sleep/I wanna stay up all night/I wanna just screw around/I don't wanna think about/What's gonna be after this/I wanna just live right now/I don't wanna go to sleep/
I wanna stay up all night/I wanna just screw around/I don't wanna think about/What's gonna be after this/
I wanna just live right now.”)
The chorus is sung again to close the single.
Kesha’s tipsy, riotous vocals are lit, breathing enough liquor to set fire, melting the snow all over the Midwest and New England states. Marriage and kids, a future, it doesn’t seem real or something that would happen to her. In the meantime, she’d rather have fun. Somehow, Kesha is able to nail the ability to be down-to-earth and normal with her larger-than-life antics.
The crazy “C’Mon” invites everyone to the party, giving away free drinks, wearing down resistance with one shot after the other.
