are these movies crap or what?

I watched a couple of movies this past weekend.... first movie, The man with the iron fist.

This movie already irritated me right at the start by pausing the combat every few seconds for opening credits. Then as the story progressed, my yawns were barely held off by the occasional bit of combat until i could wait no longer for the staggeringly slow plot development to take shape and hit the stop button. This movie would be perfect if it was a cheap porno with the corny writing we all expect, not an action movie with Russel Crowe and Lucy Liu!!! Gosh, those two actors took a wrong turn for this movie.

Then the second movie i watched was 'Chronicle' (where the teenagers get super powers).

If you like crappy cheap teenage drama shows then you will enjoy the first half of this movie, otherwise you will need a pack of cards or something else to do while you wait for the stupid teenagers to finally come to the supernatural side of the movie, but don't panic, the cheap teenage drama won't disappear, it will remain to keep you entertained all through!! (extreme sarcasm alert). There are some funny pranks played out using their super powers, but considering what they can do, it is very short sighted and besides, no time for that when your in a hurry to have more stupid Teenage drama which only increases in intensity until the movie ends with a massive super power charged teenage tantrum. If i was a teenager, i would be offended by how stupid this movie makes out teenagers to be!

I tried to watch Cloud Atlas today. I couldn't keep up with it.

The trailer looked so awesome!  Tom Hanks and Halle Berry looked awesome in it playing several roles each.

Watched the first 30 minutes of it, sucked. Couldn't follow it at all. :\

Er... actually the problem is 'thinking' they are good and then watching them!

And I'm a person who generally likes most action/sci fi movies even when they are generally disliked. I have loved all the transformer movies, all the star trek movies, ... generally always like sequels, even the one for Starship troopers! But not so dumb that i could like Superman 3 or Jaws 3, obviously. but i did love Superman returns and was then surprised it was not generally liked???

So in view of above, a movie does have to be extremely crap for me not to like it, thus my surprise at the two movies which are the topic of this thread.

So the problem is you're using a poor choice of thinker...;)

What you need is references/opinions from others BEFORE you decide...;)

Well...there you have it.

You can't go by your recommendations....they exhibit poor judgement...;)

Starship Troopers was 'ok' but you need to read the book....like most REAL SF....it comes from a book....;)

So if i like movies as a result of poor judgement, how will referencing the opinions of others help me decide? 90% of the time someone tells me a movie is crap, i love it, hence back to the question, what happened for those two movies i mentioned at the start for them to be so crap?

#1 Yes, but we've already determined you're a poor judge of movies...;)

#2 Those 90% were clearly trying to improve your standards....

...but you went anyway....and of course you liked them....see point #1...;)

The movie was not even close to the book.... which was much maligned by the "Peace" movement during the Viet Nam war. In truth? they didn't BEGIN to understand it or the late Heinlein, who was a great writer and thinker. I reread it from time to time and find even more in it... as I do with many of his books.

Utterly great book.

Hey....debating someone's taste in movies is a heck of a lot more enjoyable than where people should 'stick their guns'....;)

Mystik....I'm only 'having a lend' .... I, too like S/F ....but after doing it [liking SF] for half a century I 'mostly' get it right re picking the good from the bad.

Yeah....but every once in awhile a producer/director "you thought" was great comes along with a real stinker. I especially like those actions movies with lots of guns in them...I love those mini guns!  *_* ;P

And don't always trust other peoples judgment on movies...if you do you may miss a good one. Only you know what you like. ;)

I thought the man with the iron fists was average. It was a typical martial arts movie with a rather boring story, there are far better movies in the genre. Yeah, actually, if I have to put my finger on one thing, it'd be the story dragging the movie down.

Yes....well good-movies-without-a-story are called beauty pageants...;)

It's sort of easy to said if don't like it, then don't watch it or read it, but that kind of silly, you don't know you like it or not like it unless you taste it by exp...then you know what it was like and understand, you could not know you like it or dislike it untill you taste...Once you understand it, it's like of silly to said if you don't like it then don't watch it, it's so useless say of that word, if they don't like it, they would not watch it...reason people hope it's moives was good but it's was bad in the end after they taste it...sometime there is people said moives is so bad, and I watch personal, after it's done, it's wasn't so bad to me, but it's might be bad to them, but if people said it's good so I check it out but it's was bad to me, not good to me...so you see sometime you had to taste it to know it...if you don't taste it, you wouldn't know it...or was it?

Just saw your comment. You dropped 12 [bucks]+ Popcorn+ Soft Drink to watch this movie and walked out after 30 minutes??? The wife really wanted to see this flick but, the previews did not justify the 24 [2 tickets] and a #2 [one large popcorn and 2 soft drinks] 16 USD. Unless, it is already out on DVD. I looked prior to writing this post but, was not able to find it...

DVD comes out in a couple months. You'll be able to rent it at a Red Box in Febuary.

I borrowed a disc from a friend...apparently not a legal disc.   8C

No way I'd walk out on a flick I paid that much to see.  8|

EDIT: Of course a "copy" from my friend wouldn't be legal....but I thought he had a legal copy and made me a copy of that. Apparently not.

When it comes to picking the good from the bad.... If only i had a dollar for every time i have said "i got a feelin this movie will be crap" and was right - just from hearing the into music!! or, if i hear a harpsichord or some shit like that in the intro music, I'm definitely walkin out - or grin and bear the impending chick flick for my wife.

Bu seriously, funny how the intro music can so often be a tell of impending crapness? Or at least (in the case of the two movies of my original topic) do not inspire confidence that he movie will be good.

Looks like the 'T' key is too snobby to turn up for all words
