Seriously. WTH is wrong with people?

This is what most of the world has become. I wouldn't want to be in my kids shoes or for sure my Grandchildren's shoes. I was watching the special reports and the President came on. People can call me whatever they want but it was sad and brougnt tears to my eyes. I know what it feels like to lose someone that meant everything to me and it hurts. Things will get better in time but all involved will never forget and those that care about people and didn't lose a loved one in this event will never forget.

As the generation of people who survived the holocaust, and those who's children died stopping it pass into history, can another Hitler be that far behind?

As for the shooting...words can not express the sorrow that I feel.

Doc, when I read news releases about stuff like this I always include this line in my comments: "The sickness of the human race once again rears its ugly head."

When you come right down to it, over half the human race is sick and not even worth the sperm that created them unfortunately, and stuff like this just proves it.

When I read the shooting story, I too cried.

I read he suffered some mental illness along with Asperger syndrome...

Or.. he could have been anti gun.. and decided to use his mothers guns to shoot her, (in the face) and her whole class.. to prove a point.

Yes., people die from all sorts of things. Being gunned down in GRADE SCHOOL shouldn't be one of them.

Trivializing the murder of children is the height of insensitivity. May your grandchildren, and your great-grandchildren be raised and taught better than this.

I had hoped we'd unite in offering our condolences to those who are hurt and suffering. I don't think John was trivializing anything deliberately.

We all show pain to varying degree... I don't think he was trivializing the event, only less publicly emotiotional about it. We Americans tend to be more demonstrative that way...which is ok too.

I dont think I trivialized anything.. just throwing out what Ive read about the shooter from extensive reading today..and sorry if in some way it struck a bad chord with you.

Doesn't have anything to do with anyone else suffering the same illness...wasn't an indictment of Asbergers.... but also doesn't mean it wasn't part of the this guys overall psyche either.

Being killed by a drunk driver shouldn't be one of them.. being stabbed by a knife wielding maniac shouldn't be one of them, being strangled by a meth addict shouldn't be one of them, but IT HAPPENS.....all.. the time... yet, I don't see anyone talking about it... and I mean.. in the thousands.. several thousands, every year, senseless deaths.. yet... who.... 'among our ranks' ever talks about that??

Justin Bieber..? he's a pretty boy, celebrity, life distraction for millions of little girls, dont know his music, don't know him.. and honestly.. Wiz.. ur comment to me regarding that was way out of line... maybe u can take a step back from that and realize, I wasn't trivializing anything but trying to bring up the fact that thousands of children die EVERY day...from all kinds of other atrocities and it ALL sickens me.

Ive been watching this story from the second it happened today... In my opinion.. the guy took his mothers apparent love for guns, used them against her, and her class.. to spite her..I dont know the reason, just offering up possibilities...

Whether it was because he was anti gun and wanted to spur gun debate? Whether he was mentally ill? Whether he was evil, or possessed.. I don't know... you... don't know...either.

The US pro-gun culture is the number one reason I am glad I am not American and/or living in America.

Emotions tend to run hot and heavy during times like these. There is no explanation that I can fathom. Nor anyone else I'd imagine. Not citing any instances but........trying to eke out the why's and wherefore's is like an exercise in futility. This generation is unlike any I've seen, I mean......taking out frustrations, supposed grudges against whomever and not caring who is caught in the middle. Its very hard to put words to this.......our society, this whole damn world, is going to hell in a handbasket and there are not nearly enough people who even care! Seven months ago I had wished my stay on this ball of rock was over. Events like this and some on a personal level made that feeling a bit strong. Today I might be better off but that's about all that has changed. This latest is more than just sickening..........it is an abysmal testament to how low the human race has sunk! Morality, like common sense, no longer exists.

Absolute yes to gun control:

1. Possession of an unlicensed weapon on your person? Adios. Saudi style.

2. Gun sale in a gun show? Same rules as a store. End of story.

3. Need or want to sell your gun? Only to a licensed buyer. Immediate reporting by seller and buyer.

Feel free to add rules.

Second Amendment? No problem. You can get a Second Amendment era musket: Licensed the same as any other gun. Fire it at your own risk. Want a more modern weapon? Join the police/armed forces.

What happens to the elderly person who is shot in their home because they were not allowed the means to defend themselves?

The store-owner.. shot down as he tries to make a living for his family.. that is not allowed to defend himself?

The whole gun control argument is so naive, it's ridiculous. UNTIL we can find a way to ONLY keep guns out of the hands of the criminally insane and evil.

That is not correct.

It may be part of a solution but not the "ONLY" solution.

Another part of the solution could also be recognizing mental health issues and spending the money to treat them.

This person was not a "criminal" before killing the innocent children and teachers. No sane person would have done what he did.

The "criminals" don't care one bit about gun control. They don't seek permission to own one.

I do however feel that all the extensive media coverage and "exploration" for reprehensible events of this nature does indeed fuel the twisted fantasies of the next [insert noun here] in line.  The world stops and looks at them for awhile.

As far as the tweetlebies in the O/P, well they got what they wanted too.  I zoomed Doc's image up and read their twits.  I've properly kicked myself.

  Blaming the deaths of children on a lack of gun control sounds somewhat opinionated and biased. I am disappointed, no, saddened by your viewpoint.

Perhaps a jet airliner would be your weapon of choice? Land mines? Fertilizer and diesel oil? Maybe just good old sticks and rocks? Whatever.

 The problem is people, not weapons. Increasing/adding gun laws reduces gun crimes, nothing more, but it does help take away my right to defend myself from someone who chooses to ignore those laws, and the one that says "thou shalt not steal" God and I can work out "Thou shalt not kill" later if need be. I'll take that chance if the criminal will too.

 The "right to bear arms" was originally meant to enable an armed militia to be able to defend the people from an oppressive government. Well, that certainly fell by the wayside, didn't it. Now we elect them. Coming from a former Penal Colony, I'm not surprised you down-unders have trouble grasping "rights" and "personal freedoms"  

I used to hunt, ate what I shot, I used to target shoot, great fun. I have never fired a weapon in anger or war. I don't even own a gun right now but I will defend my right to own one. One less gun in the world? Yeah, as soon as all the Armies go home, and all the wars stop, we can talk about that.

Correct, but I don't see hordes of criminals coming to invade my living room. The FACTS and statistics prove that home weapons harm the owner/family/friends far more often than criminals.

I was taught weapons from knives through hand guns, bolt action and automatic weapons, 30 and 50 cals, mortars and anti-tank weapons. Even during war, when on leave, and in peace (well, something like it, anyway), my weapon would be broken down and stored in the highest kitchen cabinet... and the kids were 3 and 2 yrs old.... no danger BUT always acted as if there were.

If you're concerned about self defense, learn krav-maga. Or buy a nuclear weapon.
