Multiplayer Balance - Feature suggestion

"cuz ico fcking sucks"

Implent something similar to what Heroes of Newerth are using.

* Eliminates time waiting for captains
* Stops whining
* Will speed up lobby waiting with at least 90%

Ironclad you need this because people are tired of your bad programming and lack of commitment.
We actually paid for the game.

* Eliminates time waiting for captains How will it elimante time waiting for captains?
* Stops whining How will it stop whining?
* Will speed up lobby waiting with at least 90% How will it speed up anything?

Ur just spewing out shit imo.

Having that UI won't improve anything.

If a noob hosts a game, getting blue/pink. Everyone will refuse to play with a noob captain and therefore slow down the waiting with atleast 90%

Stop whining? It will cause more whine because u can't choose who's captain and u can't choose whose on ur team resulting in stacked teams and mass imbalance.

inb4 ruby u suck
inb4 ruby ur a faggot

Maybe I wasn't clear enough for you to grasp what I mean.

A balance function as in HoN, with an X players automatically divided in to 2 or more teams depending on settings. Provided the "the magic" behind the function is based on a decent formula with the ability to make it even.

Just because I hate your guts and vice versa doesn't mean you have to shit on a good suggestion.

Retards gonna be retards. (in response to Noobs gonna noob)

FYI this is absolutely the worst way to advocate that feature. Negative and entitlement attitudes have never earned us a feature. Constructive criticism, such as "Sins maps are really too random for competitive play, I think we can fix that with this", or "It would be really cool if you could let modders have frigates move like fighters, you already have the code to do that", are much more likely to succeed.

Sorry but Maybe u didn't know that stats doesn't reflect skill as u can manipulate stats in sins in many ways.

This is why all skilled games is PUG.

It isn't a good suggestion.
I don't hate u. I Just think ur noob. And because u just cry whenever anyone decent try to help u. i'm gonna stick to kicking u untill u proove that u can take advice from elites.

Many "ideal" MP features actually wouldn't work for ICO simply because of how few players there are...ladders and matchmaking and all that great stuff quickly falls apart when you only have 20 or so non-comp stomp people on at a given time...

One issue is the nature of the game itself...a single game easily lasts several hours, so stacked teams and player drops have much greater impacts simply because of the time investment one game requires...

The core problem, however, is the number of people who play online, not ICO itself....while a shitty ICO may (and I stress the word may) have gotten us to the dismal MP numbers we are at today, fixing ICO with added features unfortunately isn't going to bring those people back....the window has come and gone, Starclad has lost a lot of it's PR momentum in regards to this game...the best you can hope for is to maintain the current player base while maintaining a cost-effective model....

At this point, Starclad really is doing what makes the most sense (you have to consider the business aspect) which is:

  • Improve stability with ICO (includes getting feedback to reduce the frequency of MDs and DCs) -- this helps both competitive MP play and those doing comp stomps with friends
  • Improve general gameplay balance -- this helps both MP and SP (which is where the real player base is)
  • Add MP features that require very little or no changes to the actual game engine -- for example, adding "fair" and "competitive" map versions requires no changes to the engine whatsoever but can still make for significant improvements

GoaFan - Did you actually make this request? This sounds like an awesome idea and I would love to see battles with frigates that work this way.

PS - Sorry for posting off topic, but seeing as most of the on-topic posts are just rage anyway I figured I could slip in one harmless question.

You already can have frigates move like fighters....that's what corvettes do....there's a Boolean in the frigate's entity file that controls this.....

That was actually a request made by the modding community in the days before Entrenchment (I wasn't really a modder back then but I was around). Some modders wanted ships to move around more they so made a few threads asking the developers to add that option. Sure enough, the devs made that change in Entrenchment, even though no vanilla unit in Sins made use of it until the Corvettes in Rebellion.

If you look up the Dynamic Battle mod or something like that, that was a mod that changed most frigates to fly around like fighters, but I do not think it has been kept up to date. If you have Entrenchment it might still work for that however.

Point being, asking for something respectfully can get the devs to do it if they can, provided you can convince them its worth doing. Shaming them or whatever this thread is trying to do into doing that is less likely to work IMO.

inb4
you forgot; inb4 Ruby, you're a retard.

srsly though; Sel summed it up quite nicely.  It's attrition at this point in the story.

Improving the existing player base is our only hope, and (unfortunately for some) that means mining the ranks of the semi-competent and quasi-noobish.  The downside to this aspect is they have to be willing to listen and take direction from vets.  This inevitably means getting past what many would consider personal affronts, and many allusions to their Neanderthal heritage (that seems to come naturally in many cases) being leveled at them.

However, in order to take up their own slack to "make the grade" in the multiplayer community, they need to recognize that players who can help them improve are not in a popularity contest.  After all, there are selfish motivations for helping a player improve, the least of which is fostering better competitive games across the board.

There have been well over 250 players online every time I've been on in the last few weeks. It's still a small number compared to other MP games but it's certainly a base that could be built upon with a better interface. ICO is not user friendly. Why can't you see who is in the lobby when you are in a game room? Why can you not moniter your game room chat while you are in the lobby advertising? Why can you not see who is in a game until you join the room?

Also, some sort of ranking system would help, with zero points given for beating computers.

Thanks Yarlen!  And I will say (as has been said before) you guys truly do a much better job than MOST game producers at continuing to improve and balance your game after it hits release.

As far as ICO goes, I really think just being able to see who is in a game/room without having to leave the one you are in would be a huge improvement.  Same with chat.  There are a million different interfaces out there but something that is more "tablet" style with multiple frames would be simple to accomplish.

Oh aye, I agree completely and thanks. :)

Outstanding Yarlen!

As part of your investigation, do you think y'all can look into a "Test Server" button on the log in screen?  Would be lot easier to get folks over there more regularly which could help with bug hunts.

Changing maps from within the hosted lobby would be huge!  Multiple channel windows too.

-And while were at it, any chance we might see a list of games going that indicated how long they've been playing, and who's in them?
