Pirates in single player games

AARRRRGGGHHH ME HARTY

Hey guys, I play only single player and I always play with the pirates off, why are they even in the game? it turns from two civilzations fighting each other to who ever out bids the other straight up wins because theres no hope of defending your self against such a mighty fleet as the pirates early on, they out number 10 to 1 for gods sake and I couldn't out be the AI anyway so I had no money to build a fleet...

I always play with them off because there really way to strong to deal with.

Some people like the chaos they bring to games. They also give a way for purely economic and diplomatic players to hurt enemies.

The real reason I think pirates have been an underused if not bad features is that there is no way to design them for players of all skill levels. The strength of the pirates has changed a lot between Sins patches, and they've never been able to please anyone. Some new players will always find them too strong and rage quit inducing, and some pro players will always find them too weak and an easy source of capitalship XP. Changing how strong they are changes how many people are in which category, but very few people ever think they are "just right".

I wouldn't mind if they were a playable faction, that would be cool.

That would be sweet!

Pirates are easy.  The real reason the noobs don't like them is because they don't know the power of abilities.  Any good ability stack will waste the pirates instantly.  In addition, turrets own them.

The only time the pirates are very difficult to deal with sometimes is when someone sends an overwhelming pirate raid at you in DS

What kind of stacking abilities are we talking here? I'm still pretty new so I just build a bunch of all the ship types / capital ships and leave all the auto casts on and just watch the fire works.

Missl barrage is good, always have an akkan with tier 3sensors

kortuls waste pirates, since they dont have the firepower to deal with it

bombers are probably the easiest way to deal with them

Then you've got your ol' explosive nanites

mines are incredibly effective against those dumbass pirates

I don't play with advent so i wouldn't know

use turrets.  Pirates generally target those first, saving your ships a pounding

lrf's have longer range than any pirates

if you can get a vasari carrier to lv 6, use duplicate on heavy cruisers and send the clones in as a disposable meatshield.

and never forget starbases.  In normal sins any starbase will generally waste pirates.

also, having a trade port in the gravity well spawns trade ships.  Traders are priority targets for pirates and they'll ignore your forces until all the traders are dead.

If none of that is helpful go play Minecraft.
