Is the time right for a Community Skinning Project?

Hi ya folks

It has been awhile since the last Community Project, so being the glutton for punishment that I so love being, I volunteer to start one.

Since I am not a skinner this part is really easy.  The hard part is coming up with an idea, some graphics or a theme like a WindowBlinds that the rest of the community skinners can use to make additional themed skins. 

So if you have some thoughts for a theme lets see them.  Now this is not a contest to see who can come up with the best theme.  If we get several theme ideas then that can work it's way into several projects.  Hmmm, I like that thought, lets not lose that idea.

Just like any other skins that are submitted to WinCustomize to be uploaded into the Libraries the skins for the Community Project must pass moderation.  I believe everyone knows what that means, but if you must, ask questions before hand.  If you are going to share some ideas for a theme just remember that what you come up with graphically should be able to work for folks wanting to make Docks, DX skins or Winstep. 

What themed skins can be done?  Well I always like to say if there is a WinCustomize Library for it you can do one.

Basically there is no clock on the project, when it's done it's done.  The only thing that will change that is if the consensus is to do a Holiday Theme.  That should at least be available for the community to use before the holiday passes.    :O

Okay community, the ball is in your end of the court, lets see what you an come up with.  :sun:

 

UPDATE: 

1. Just so everyone knows what we are doing, we have two Holiday Themes to make skins for, reply #22 and #31.  Please contact Karen and Dave to get what you need, when it is ready, so you can start skinning.

2. Hey, we need names for the themes.   Don't really want them to be Community Skinning Project Holiday Theme 1 and 2 do we?  :-"

3. I'm thinking that the WBs and themed skins should go up at the same time about a couple of weeks before the Holidays, in other words lets not upload the WBs before folks have a chance to finish their themed skins.  Need to know what the consensus is.

Now I need to figure out how to get both Dave's and your wallpaper on a dual monitor set up.  I guess I could use Paint or a similar program and put the two walls together to make essentially a dual monitor wall.  Do you or anyone else know if that will work?  :S

My quote from the original post which sets up this reply/comment.

I now realize that I failed to make one statement in the original post that now has me very embarrassed.  I hope that everyone that has put in hard work making skins does not feel the need to set my feet on fire.  In community projects it has been somewhat understood that themed skins will use the graphics of the overall theme.  Again my sincere apology for not stating that upfront.

All skins made for the project will be shown in the OP above and in the suite description with links.

I am truly sorry for the omission in the OP.

I kind of have to agree with Steve. (OMG, did I say that?)   :-"        JK Stevo.   ;)

 

It may be a great skin, but it doesn't match up with any of the other stuff.

 

Being a community effort, it should all match to some degree.

 

No offense toward anyone, it's just the way these things are supposed to work.  ;)

I think neone6's xion player matches both skins, its got snowflakes, and the green and red that both skins have.

my start 8 buttons dont contain elements of either skin either...not sure why you guys never objected to that.

either way, we have contributed and that is what counts.... |-)

Yes, there is a reason we can't have 2 -- it's because I still have a BUNCH of other stuff I should be doing (like baking cookies, making presents and sending out Christmas cards) -- plus you understand much better than I do about the bitmap and text margins -- I can never get my Rainy's to just be the size I want them without having them stretch in some funkified way.  So...I'm bailing on that rainy.

I'll get to emailing the wall and clock to those who have requested them.  Any particular size that you require the wall in?

And in all fairness...Uvah's fireplace project doesn't conform with the project at hand either. Both look great...no argument there...but I would consider them separate projects. Just having almost the same colors isn't enough. Having said that neither one matches the project. If there were some element of the original skin in it there would be no problem...but there isn't. If this is how we're going to do it then we could just take stuff already done...throw it together and call it a project since all Xmas stuff has the same colors.

I was going to do some stuff for Dave's skin...but because of how the graphics tile in OD & Winstep I may not get anything done. I "could" do something similar...but it wouldn't match...so I won't do anything for it unless I can use the original graphics.

Uvah's fireplace uses some of my pine swag graphic.  My SysMetric uses one of Dave's holly graphics.  All it would take to pull this all in, is a tiny bit of holly or some pine garland.
