Let's hear some positive feedback for 1.04

Well day one of 1.04 has more or less been a a whine-fest about what hasn't been fixed- most focus on the still broken VR and some on wail.  Well how about some positive feedback?

Frankly while it didn't fix everything(which a single patch can't really be expected to), honestly I think it was a fairly productive patch.

New damage type for corvettes is great, I'm stoked over what is probably the most significant AL buff since beta, and a very nice step towards reducing how central titans are to rebellion gameplay(via level-scaling costs/build time on downed titans).

So anyway, let's take a break from all the negativity if only for this thread- post your favorite change and what you think this patch did right.

Whiners are gonna whine. Haters are gonna hate. People are gonna bitch till doomsday here. Dev's ain't done with Rebellion yet.

The removal (truncation) of that bad file path names is good enough for me. The upping of tier, and research pre-req's of rebel jumping orkys, and mobile loyalists is a good thing too.

People were bitching about titans being rebuilt at level lost. OK so they now added 10% costs increases for each new titan replacement. I am totally cool with that. Buffs to Coronata good too. The Advent loyalist need all the buffs they can get.

Watch the future sales figures and the number of people online. That will tell you everything you need to know on how the patch has gone.

Rebellion had good sales figures because of its prequel. The sequel to Rebellion will have nowhere near the sales.

This thread isn't really meant to be a place for debate.  And frankly I do not say that because I think you are necessarily wrong(I don't try to suppress opinions merely because they differ from my own).  I'm saying this because this thread has a single purpose: to create some positivity amidst the negativity that have pervaded the day.   It's supposed to create a better environment, not engender an argument on whether the patch was effective or not.

So please, don't turn this thread into a debate.

I think the fact that there has been that so many negative comments shows you the general consensus, but if it will make you happy: One step in the right direction but considering how far everyhing needs to be changed in the future, there's a long way to go before people are happy. Personally i dont think many people have that much patience, I don't.

Honestly man it's clear you have an axe to grind and I'll ask again, could you please grind it elsewhere.

If you want to actually take part in the thread's intended purpose by all means do so.  But even this second post of yours is obviously a thinly veiled attempt to deliver the exact same argument as your first post only masked with a back-handed complement.

This is a casual thread to ask what people liked about the thread--- It is not a thread for debating whether the patch's results are acceptable or whether stardock is moving fast enough.  Frankly though sort of topics abound; you don't need to hijack this one.

That said my responding certainly isn't helping- I've said what I mean to, so I hope you'll bring your resentment elsewhere, but I won't be arguing any further.

Bilun and Chris please take your bikkering else where. This thread is not for you to debate about this thread not being a debate thread.

Rebuilding a high level titan sucks.  (And this is a good thing.)

The other positive thing I'd say is that we now have 5 races that are roughly balanced and each has their own reason for playing them.

TEC (general) - Economy
TL - Novaliths and improved defenses.  (The superweapon change really made them the Novalith race)
TR - Ragnarov and rapid expansion with Truce Among Rogues.

Advent (general) - Fleet Power
AL - Suppression Aura + Subjegating Assault (IMO this is still the strength of the Coranato even with the Unity Mass upgade)  Add in Vertigo, Shield Restore, Guardians, increased shield mitigation, etc. and fleets are very hard to kill.
AR - Eradica and Wail of the Sacrificed.  AR can just kill stuff.

Vasari (general) - Mobility
VL - Kostura and Stripped to the Core.  VL have great hit and run tactics.  Phase Missiles are pretty good too.

Just about all the fixes seem good and some very welcome changes. Fury of the Unity buff is exactly what I thought wasn't need but is still very welcome. Assimilated Populace buff is modest but also welcome.

Sadly, AR's Expulsion got slightly nerfed for some reason.

This patch has greatly narrowed down the list of what needs to be changed next:

Wail should only effect 1 grav-well at a time by making it a targeting ability like a super-weapon or it should not effect enemy ships in friendly grav-wells.

SB Mobilisation needs to be granted upon upgrading a SB with rank 2 phase stabilisation.

and minor buffs for: Global Unity, Planet for a Planet, Confluence, Cleanse and Renew, Mass Communion.

Maybe because the trolls on the forums are trolls online is the reason so few participate?

At least the Devs did SOMETHING about the VR. I like the superweapon changes, and how the TL get to skirt that.

was a great idea to buff the eradica, i mean it wasn't the strongest titan in the game or anything!

Have you even played with me online?  There may be trolls to blame for the state of the forums and ICO, but I am most certainly not one of them....

Stripped to the Core changes were good, thoughtfully done - helped balance VL a lot more.

I'm hoping VR Starbases will also go this route of StarClad taking community feedback for additional balance changes because the 1.04 ones were pretty ineffectual.

Unity Mass change on Coronata gave one of the lesser Titans some needed oomph.

Only played Huge Ring Map of the new ones so far - 99 planet big with central sun connecting two pirate bases. It gives a pretty epic sense of scale for a single star map.

It doesn't make culture any less feasible for them, but it has been pointed out for a while that a conditional +5% damage bonus is pathetic for a level 8 tech. Compared to Armor Restoration its still not as good...

Quoting JuleTron, reply 10
Sadly, AR's Expulsion got slightly nerfed for some reason.

It can be a buff in some situations. It seems that before the buff was giving all planets the equivalent culture output of an additional 1/5 of a culture center. Now it gives a +20% raw buff. That means planets with culture centers won't be affected anymore, but those with more than one or culture improving planet bonuses will be better off with this system.

Its a bit interesting as the lack of a real center means eco players will be encouraged to support their allies directly on the flank sooner, as they can't raid from across the system. The 10 wormholes seem to be the key to keeping different fronts connected.

The non Random maps all have predefined team starts, so allies are always together or apart depending on the map. No unfair suicide or eco spots. Also I believe Triple Entente is the first official 3v3v3 map.

A very good patch!

What I like most: :D

  1. The humbled Coronata is back! And this time she means business!

Until now, she had little answer to an Eradica microwaving your fleet. But not anymore! Now she strikes back with vengeance!

A short excerpt from my first game with the Advent Loyalist with the 1.04 patch:

Fleet 1: Advent Loyalist - Level 3 Coronata Class Titan with major battle damage + a few Iconius Guardians + Progenitor Mothership with severe battle damage

Fleet 2: Advent Rebel - Level 5 Eradica Class Titan with medium battle damage

Location: Pirate base - that was just wiped out by the Advent Loyalist when the lone Eradica enters the sector

    1. Progenitor Motherships commences retreat

    2. Eradica on intercept course

    3. Eradica uses chastic burst on the already severly damaged mothership

    4. Coronata + Guardians still en route to the Eradica

    5. Eradica keeps microwaving the mothership

    6. Mothership: Stand by for Phase...... Ahhhhhrg..... transmission lost

    7. Eradica comes about determinded to kill the remaining ships aswell.

    8. Both Titans open fire.... the Guardians reduce some of the incoming firepower but this is still a fight between a heavily damaged Level 3 Coronata and a medium damaged Level 5 Eradica.

    9. Eradica commences microwaving...

    10. Coronata charges up Unity Mass...

11: Eradica: Mircowaving.... Microwaving.... WAIT? WTF happened to my shields?

    12. Eradica now in range of Suppression Aura...

    13. Eradica: Fine... no need to hurry.... I will still enjoy this kill

    14. Coronata charges up Unity Mass...

    15. On the bridge of the Eradica several yellow warning lights change to red warning lights

    16. Coronata just refuses to die...

    17: Eradica: Shhhh....... Guardians

    18. Coronata charges up Unity Mass...

    19. Eradicas hull looks decisive unhealthily...

    20. Eradica: I dont see any remaining warning lights that are not bright red.... lets get the hell out of here!

    21. Eradica flees the Gravity well to avoid certain destruction.

Their words will burn in the Unity's flames... }:)

No seriously... it makes a lot more fun to play Advent Loyalists if other players have reasons to be afraid of you... the entire Advent Theme is about merciless revenge.... that should somehow be reflected in the game. The change to Unity mass went a long way forward to that end and was a huge step into the right direction. This "Ohh shit!" feeling of other players (like the Advent Rebel above) is a large part of the multiplayer fun factor of the game.

  2. Rework of Unyielding Will! YAY! :w00t: Awesome work, developers! Thank you very much! |-)

  3. Eradica Titan Buff... it needed it.... alone to compete with the now mighty Coronata. It is still better against larger fleets... something that is underlined with this buff.

  4. Increased Titan cost and build time once destroyed and depending on Level. Wonderful, now you have greatly increased satisfaction when you finally bring down one of those mighty ships.

  5. Well thought out solution for number of fieldable superweapons ,

  6. Game and modding optimization. While I dont mod myself, making it easier/add more options for modders is a BIG "HAVE TO BUY THAT NOW" incentive for me.

  7. New Maps... and quite awesome maps they are! |-)

  8. Stripped to the core balancing - Fantastic!

  9. Pirate raiders despawning after returning to base. That should reduce some lag.

  10. All the bug fixes!  :) You take it for for granted that developers fix their games?  It is clear to me then that you have not bought a game from EA for ages. It should go without saying that developers fix the games.... but sadly more often than not this is not the case. And so I feel compelled to praise Ironclad Games and Stardock for this.

  11. Ok, admittedly, this has nothing to do with the patch. Still, I feel that the Steam as a copy protection system is halfway tolerable. I still dont like it, but compared to the incredible shit several other game developers try to force onto you nowadays, its a minor annoyance.

  12. Again, this has nothing to do with the patch, but I want to express my gratitude for still supporting LAN play. Until 1 year ago I was stuck on a terrible internet connection... making any internet gaming a pain in the ass.  Besides... nothing like hearing you friend scream bloody murder from across the room when he realizes to late that one of my Marzas made a slight detour to his capital... }:)

Yes, not everything is perfect yet, Vasari Rebels are probably still too powerfull. But we are moving in the right direction and I dont see any issues that cannot be fixed with a few more patches.

Keep up the good work! |-)

In all seriousness though, this was a good patch.  Due to the buff to Unyielding Will, hopefully the devs will nerf Chastic Burst in the future.

The Orky changes were in the right direction, but not far enough.  People can complain as much as they want to about it not being far enough, but the devs probably want to just do so in incremental steps to check how things change and our feedback.  Is it far enough?  No.  Is it the right direction?  Absolutely.

Does anyone else think that the change to Disruption Matrix was really really significant? I honestly think the Ankylon is the best Titan at high levels now. Esp. if you can get both Disruption Matrix and Group Shield to max, you can basically just ignore even Titan AoE.

Because of the fact that it lasts 15 seconds at max rank, you can shut down an enemy Titan's AoE for the 15 seconds it takes group shield to finish recharging after expiring, and with an 86% damage reduc on top of shield mit, Titan AoE is basically negligible while group shield is up, you can't just wait for group shield to wear off then use Chastic Burst or whatever the hell anymore if you're facing a TL player with a high level Ankylon who is microing it well.

Plus, you can interrupt The Maw and Nano Leech and well, whatever you want really. I know it doesn't matter so much in MP games because they take less time, but I think this is a huge boost to the Ankylon, and I like it.

On the subject of Orkies, I think the devs did indeed take a step in the right direction, but something has been bugging me. Why is it that the Vasari starbases are the best in terms of armament/ armor/ etc? They can already move, which is untrue of the other two starbases, so why are they made even better by giving them all these ridiculously powerful upgrades? I think that the TEC/ Advent starbases deserve a huge buff. because they're basically irrelevant to a skilled player. I especially think TL Argonevs should be vastly superior to every other starbase simply because they're supposed to be the "defensive" faction.
