I have no idea whats so ever because this has got to be the most complicated unit in the entire game and frankly it is the only reason why i choose to play other races in most cases-but im drawn to it for some unusual circumstances which i can't explain.

The honest truth is guardians exist in a world of their own. During my peak times in rebellion i usually found myself creating them in their own fleet. That usually meant i'd alt select one to select them all. From there on i sent them to follow my main fleet. The formation of the fleet has to be wide spread-don't ask me why and what are the benefits because all i know is my inner instinct tells me its for the best of the fleet.

The truth is so long as guardians exist in their own world of pain-where their abilities can't be interfered with the movement of the main fleet then I'm fine with it. You see when you have guardians in your main fleet then you tend to cancel their shielding ability with every fleet movement command.

Mid-game, I find repulsion is most useful for keeping titans from jumping away, separating titans from support fleet (support cruisers and flak), and keeping titans away from raw SBs...most useful for dealing with Rebel titans, loyalist titans who really cares...

Late-game, it basically is just to keep HCs away from Titan or other stuff away from carriers...late game lag makes it much harder to micromanage, so anything other than "holding your ground" is going to be very difficult...

I almost always turn the autocast for shield projection off on all my guardians...it just drains shields and AM, making them die faster and unable to use repulsion as long....

Any other ideas?

remember that they reset physics state...even hitting a cap for 1 second makes it have to reaccelerate....so even if you can't push a fleeing ship away from edge of gravity well, if you push it sideways it still is better than nothing...

Late game guardians with shield projection clustered around your titan is also the only way to keep your eradica/progenitor/halcyon alive against a huge bomber spam.  Need a lot of guardians however, yet the defensive capabiliy of this is quite jaw dropping, especially when the eradica munches on a fully shielded guardian.  YUM.
