Replay/Strategy Analysis for Players New to MP

So, these might not be too interesting for experienced players but I thought I'd slap these two games up to talk about basic strategy for new players to MP. I'm assuming players know the game basics, but may just not be used to the game flow or meta of MP.

Game 1 (4v4, 26 min): Pay attention to the starting positions. I and my nearest partner move to 2v1 the enemy player we're surrounding. Taking a player out early as soon as possible before he can dig in and/or get fed resources much is huge. Meanwhile, Efejao[BRZL] (or however it's spelled) is facing the same problem on our team. Since I have an easy start, it's useless to keep my resources banked so I need to support him as he's facing jbaum and another player looking to take him out quickly. He gets 2 factories up on his homeworld and starts pumping ships out with the extra resources. The enemy make a big mistake in not timing their 2v1 very well so Efe is able to fend them off, kill a cap ship, and even seriously threaten one of the players. You can see just how differently the two 2v1s play out here. Notice how he micros his ships really well in keeping them near his factories and having them focus fire ships one at a time, keeping them out of range of the bulk the enemy fleet while the enemy doesn’t micro at all and just has ships randomly spread out.

Game 2 (5v5, 101 min): Good teamwork makes all the difference. Our team communicates, the newer players were open to listening, and resources are shared really well. The other team....well you'll see in the chat. There is also a pretty funny Wail of the Sacrificed moment here too. Overly aggressive, non-scouting, multiple grav well jumping fleet gets vaporized... An entire desert planet of psychic suicide bombers turns out to be pretty potent! There's also a lot of starbases in this game and one of our players gets red buttoned pretty bad. In this game, red (Emperor) should have helped double green (JameX) and keep him in check since they had him flanked on both sides. Instead, he tried to attack our new player, who got supported well with feed, a starbase, and me switching from eco to fleeting up.

Malice + Chaotic Burst + Re-animation work wonders when you think you're outnumbered. Once that turned the tide vs. red and I got his desert planet I dug in and was gonna hold it like Mr. Heston

lol yes indeed you are right though emperor should have attacked jamex the vasari player if red and orange were successful in taking out green it would have been a tough fight, that is what I like about mp that one decision had so many consequences

One thing that stuck out to me in these replays was how people often ignored constructors while focusing down buildings (often building being made by those very constructors).  Seems like a significant oversight, unless I'm missing something.

it is an oversight, when you jump in always select a few ships to hit the constructors whilst controlling your main fleet

I cant seem to download the replays from the links. I try pressing the blue download icon and the page just seems to refresh. I dont think its my browser as i have tried with explorerer and firefox... do i need an account on 2shared.com? the only other link is that advertised download manager but i assume it is not that. (livid.exe)

Works for me - it should take you to a page saying Thank you for downloading....click here if your download doesn't start automatically.

I think these replays are obsolete anyways, as I think 1.04 came out in August.

ahhh dang it thx for the suggestion though (gracias tio!) but it still doesnt download..actually what happens is when i click on download literally nothing happens, it doesnt even refresh the page.

When u open the website to download it, untick the boxes Allow Cookies and Remove Scripts.

And no GeaFan it's not a spam or anything like it, I live in UK too and have the same issue with 2shared.com.

Ah my apologies, I thought he was having trouble getting the replays to work, not downloading them.

These replays are out of date now - they were from before 1.04 patch so they'll be unwatcheable even if you manage to download them. The tips are still good of course for anyone having trouble using that site for more recent replays.

I don't normally necro threads, however is is there a way we can run old replays such as these on the newer clients?

I wanted to show these to my friends, specifically one of these two as I remember it very well. Unfortunately it doesn't work on my 1.1 / 1.5 clients.

I'd like some 1.5 save games, im still awful at the game, and no previous save games work. (and I cant downgrade to 1.1) Would be nice if there was some kind of website or something about this. :s
