$40 is a bit steep with the preorder discount and the five dollar coupon I only paid ~$25.

Well, I'm going to sell my retail copy of Trinity to get some of my losses back. The whole "expansion" definition is a bit misleading, this is basically Trinity "enhanced edition", hence the price tag I assume... Still, it's a great game, having a great time so far.

I have 3 copies of the original game... I never got any discount?

They could have easily released this as a 4th expansion, at a cheaper price.

I've paid full price for this, expecting a new game only to discover its basically just a DLC.

New ship, need balance, with NEW titans, need balance, WITH NEW FACTIONS, need balance, IS NOT A SIMPLY DLC, ok?

So much work on this DLC, you dont like sins of a solar empire?, NO PLAY AND PROBLEM SOLVED.

For me is really ok, REALLY the game is amazing, if you dont want titans or new ship, DONT BUY THE GAME, still playing diplomacy... all people says "starcld say NEW FACCTION, NEW CAPITAL, where is new factions?", but you dont see the videos?, in the videos have not others factions, or other units.

people saying "i am dissapointed", starclad not required to buy the game, you buy the game, but if dont like sinsofasolarempire, dont like the DLC, is simply LIKE BUY PREMIUM OF BF3, IF YOU LIKE PLAY BF3 YOU LIKE PAY FOR PREMIUM.

What you spect??, NEW RACE? REMAKE ALL GAME? the proyect of sins of a solar empire, said "HAVE 3 MICRO EXPANSIONS", so it is the final dlc... what YOU spect for a dlc?, NEW RACE?? ALL DIFFERENT SHIPS? wtf , you dont understand the concep for DLC my friend.

If we will have sins 2 (i hope) it will be different.

You are looking too much into numbers...like if the higher number of new techs = better game...

Additionally, those new techs in Diplomacy were things like 3x Envoy tech = for every faction separately, then interspieces relationships, better interspieces relationships, even better interspecies relationships... again, this 3x for every race...this makes 9 separate techs out of 60, which are just improving the same thing for every faction... do you consider this that unique and interesting like Dual Starbases, Truce Amongst Rogues, Global Unity, Wail of Sacrificed, Stripped to the Core or Starbase Mobilisation? I hope not... 

Just out of curiosity, is there any reason why one should stick with their copy of Trinity?

Hm, i'm a bit torn on this.

Personally i don't regret the 30€ for Rebellion.

And i've played quite a few games in the beta and let me say this:
Just going through a checklist can not represent the effect the new changes have at gameplay.
If you follow some of the heated forum debates, the "minor" additions of Corv's, Titans and the faction techs shook the gameplay up enough already ;-D.
So i'm seeing the content being fine, maybe not cornicopious, but fine.


I have to admit though, when it comes to cost-performance ratios, i always had a weak spot for Ironclad/Stardock.

Let's be honest, Sins expansions always were a bit light on the content side but priced rather generously (for them) at the same time.
But that was always fine with me, i acknowledge where SD/IC comes from and what they want to achieve with the limited ressources they have got..... and i want to reward that.

So i'm fine dishing out a bit more even if i'd be infuriated if EA or ActiBlizz ever dared to sell me starbases, a handful of defense techs and mines for 10 bucks.
Or the content of Rebellion nearly for the price of a standalone title.

But my point is, this kind of "respect fee" was kind of used up now with Rebellion.
Still fine with the things i got, but to be honest (but without any bitterness or something):

IF there ever would be a DLC or micro expansion for Rebellion, now i'd measure it under my "general" rules.
So just a few bits and bobs for 10 to 15€ are out of the questions from now on.

Sins was an new and very fresh IP back in the day, i supported this idea with numerous micro expansion and now the standalone thingie but next time i'll judge their products under a more "fair" point of view in regards to other games/publishers.

For the short term, Trinity would be better if you play mods, since most mods will take a while to port over to rebellion...in the long run though there isn't much reason to stick to Trinity...

If you account for the $10 discount for owning trinity, then Rebellion is only $30...that is comparable to the price of expansion pacts for major games (such as the Civilization series or Total War franchise)...

The question is, does Rebellion add the amount of content that these comparably priced expansion pacts add?  That's a harder call to make...from a modding perspective I think it obviously does, but if you aren't into modding then I can definitely see why $30 might seem a little too much...

I greatly enjoyed the original SINS games and all the expansions. I bought this one and jumped into it! A few hours later I exited the game extremely disappointed. I have since tried the game out after each update and played each faction to see if I could find some great new feature to keep me hooked on the game. Now, with about 20 hours of game time put in, still nothing. I expected much more from this expansion as the previous expansion were $10 and this expansion was $40. Instead, I got less....

A few new big ships and techs - worth $10 - Sure. $20? - Maybe. BUT, $40?! For this mini DLC?! Wow, now that's a rip off! Still no real dual core CPU support for those of us that enjoy longer and harder games without late game lag. That alone would have made it worth the $40 to me.

Try some of the mods out there for first SINS (with expansions) like "7 Deadly Sins", "Stargate Invasion" or "Star Trek - Sacrifice of Angels." My personal favorite is Sacrifice of Angels with better story, gameplay, effects, balance, and playability then the new "Rebellion" mod. Try it, then try to play rebellion again and see what rebellion COULD have been.

I don't get it.  If it's DLC you would have to have trinity/ diplomacy...and then it wouldn't be $40.

And if you didn't have those, then it wouldn't be DLC.

And for anyone who has T/D and didn't preorder, but is NOW deciding to buy the game, there just isn't anything to complain about there.  If they don't know what they're getting, then they are just being lazy about looking up information.

I am biased, I'll spend the money to support the company because I like the games they put out and their mentality to stick to their guns about the 'feel' and character of the games.  I love the over powered differences between factions....and how it just seems to work 90% of the time.

Steam doesn't give refunds, apart from cancelling pre-orders.

I made this point right when the Advent were released that Rebellion didn't have enough new stuff to justify the cost. We've basically re-bought Trinity with a couple of new ships and new tech buttons to click on. I really was expecting more. Mods deliver way more new content than this. I suppose I've gotten my money's worth compared with other games, but I just feel disappointed and uninterested in trying to get friends to buy Rebellion. There should have been more. All three races are still pretty much reskinned versions of each other, each faction plays identical to each other aside from some build-order tweaks (ie: no Zerg rush against a dozen or so Terran marines, no GDI behemoth against a swarm of NOD buggies), all 6 factions have very little to differentiate themselves, there is no map preview, multithreading still is not implemented, 64-bit is not implemented, and other things that would have been nice. I'll think twice about pre-ordering another game from these people. That is my opinion.

So what are we to do? Well, you can make a mod to address these things (mods are what will save this game I think and may improve my enthusiasm in the near future). You can make your own game. You can go play another sci-fi RTS of which there are few decent alternatives. We can post these messages on the forum too. Is anyone actually paying attention though? I got the impression the people with the ability to make changes to the game were busy playing Diablo 3 instead of working on Rebellion. I just expected more especially after the amount of time that's elapsed since Diplomacy was released.

I have over 140 games on my account and I've had 2 refunds for 2 games I've not been happy with.

I've also just received an email from Stardock Technical Support, saying I should get a refund from steam.

Can you do that with music and books there too?

Have you played a full game against a decent opponent yet? The play style has completely changed imo. It's all extremely Titan/cap centric now, the old rock paper scissors thing has sort of gone out the window.

To me the gameplay 'is' a lot more exciting. some people are just never happy. why waste your 'wow' time while it lasts getting into this shiny new version with morbid grumbling about how it isn't fking bigger better stronger. I hate to say it, but some people haven't even got a TV.

I think that people who are complaining that it's not different enough from Trinity haven't played the game sufficiently. It is substantially different.  If you disagree, then please contact your point of purchase for a refund.

There may be issues with Rebellion, but "being different" certainly is not one of them...

It's your money, do what you want with it, if you think a refund is in order then to each his own...but I strongly encourage you to follow this game, maybe spend some time reading the forums after a few patches have been released...I think you will find that even a handful of the Rebellion additions have fundamentally changed the game, and I hope you reconsider purchasing it in the future...

All I can say to this is that this statement could not be said any better. What is with all this negativity? I have only had trinity for a few months and played well over 100 hours, I am now approaching 200 hours on Rebellion, and I can say that this game is way different than trinity and well worth it in my honest opinion. I love advent and I do not understand how people can say it isn't different enough, do you realize how epic it is to have confluence of the unity and acclimation of will? Advent have always had poor eco at first but with AL you can now use massive culture to gain allegiance with your planets and even take allegiance from your foes forcing them to build media centers, forcing my opponent to use their money to keep their planets forces me to giggle with delight, and if you are the advent rebels do you know how awesome it is to feed your titan the reanimated ships of your opponets? I do not play tec or vasari often so others would have to fill you guys in on the new goodies that have but all in all this game is way worth it for what I payed and even being close to 200 hours in this is only the tip of the iceberg as you can go on multi and experience epic fights with titans.

Lastly for the complainers remember this, the devs spent god knows how many hours re-doing particle effects etc, new music and the list goes on and on, and this game has awesome modding potential I bet those crying for a refund now will be sorry they did once this game gets going!

When I bought Sins I was hoping to get more weapons on ships, a new-better-than-capitals class, better AI, and in general more modding options. While some things, such as the hardcap limits on Titans, are annoying, I'm pretty happy with my purchase.

Trust me the AI is better on Rebellion, as if they are VL expect enforcers and if they are VR expect assailants etc, they use their tech benefits more wisely in the fleet compositions I have noticed

AI does seem better, but it may have to do with how they cheat...haven't followed an unfair or hard AI but I know that the vicious get random techs periodically for free, even if they don't meet the prereqs...this prevents the AI from not getting the proper prototypes or structures to fight competently...

I disagree, but I don't want a refund. I think you missed expectations. I don't think you ripped people off. Hopefully some of the criticism influences SOASE 2 if you intend to build it.

WELL i dont agree this game has as many content as a microexpansion. 6 different factions is simply awesome, its not like adding an entire tech tree or different star bases like the previos exps (which were good adittions too).
