Expert Advice

no disrespect to top skinners, offer help I may take it!

I have struggled to find what impresses the population. My skins have been mildly successful to date in my opinion, and the rest of the worlds opinion too, thats ok. I have decided to seek help that has been offered from day one, from the top skinners in the world by popular vote. Yes Vampothika and Neone6 have offered help several times and I think its time to take it. So ,maybe a little downtime on my skins until I get retrained! My reason for this post is maybe other newbies such as me who are put off by Vamps and Neone will see I was also unwilling to accept help at first but have learned help can make a difference. I hope to improve my skills any way possible so as to create the next materpiece. The skin that defines a new look yet seen. I think they can help, why they would I do not know , but a public thanks to you both. DoorTech!

Vampothika has done a series of tutorials on creating a Windowblind. Taking her advice and learning from her would be an smart thing to do, indeed. neone6 can certainly teach you too.

I have struggled to find what impresses the population.

I think a better approach might be to find what pleases you, and keep at it until you are honestly and critically satisfied. Good luck! :)

I have struggled to find what impresses the population.

It really comes down to doing a quality job of skinning, I think the community accepts that each skinner will have their own style and choice on graphics.  That said, skin for yourself and do the best you can and keep trying new stuff.  What counts is if you like it.  :sun:

I tried that and am not happy with the results. I could use the artistic advice in conjunction with my inner style after getting some tips. It can only help. Will still skin from the heart just hopefully will produce some better product. I thank you for that though. I do not want to be number fifteen on the list. Looks like I will get my wish as my numbers are falling.LOL. Take Care,DoorTech1

This would be trying new stuff. And, I think I will like the results. Its just some artistic advice, not a brainwash. Thanks Philly. O:)

I meant no disrespect to the other great skinners here, but you have not offered help that I am aware of , but if you do I just may take you up on it. Actually AceMatrix has been very supportive also, he just doesn't skin! Thanks Ace.

What?? Ace makes some fine icons, which although not a WB, is still very much skinning.  Skins come in all sorts of flavors.

This is what I like about this community. No matter what your skill level or area of expertise, there is alway someone who you can help, and always someone who can help you as well.  Everyone from noob to Master can and often do participate. The list of skinners I've seen jump into a forum thread to be helpful to beginners  is too long to post. It makes me proud to be a member here.

I think the most common factor among the truly great skinners is the amount of time they have spent doing it. Stay at it, don't let the occasional bad skin comment or poor rating discourage you and above all, have fun doing what you enjoy doing. Ratings and fans will come.

Good Luck from a artistically declined non-skinner.

I think  "doesn't skin windowblinds" may be more appropriate. Ace skins Icon Packager. I skin DX, Rainlendar, Object Dock, etc.....

Surely doortech1 doesn't think only skinning WB is skinning.

Help is always here, DT, if you only ask.  Good skinning!  ;)

My thought would be it's not your style that is the problem as Neone6 (Andrew has a real out of the box, as I call it sifi style that I can't get anything in my head to make something like that. with his WB you can read and see it all.

In the beginning some of your problem was making a incomplete WB. Users want a complete WB and one that is very usable. Take your Office Supplies WB. The text on the buttons, taps and taskbar clock for example are broken text or very hard to see text. Same with the clock text on your Light-tube 7 WB. So it's really not so much your style as the usability of the WB. Check out just these few points I mentioned and you will see more. correct that type of stuff first and work from there.

I understand it sounds like starting over but I wouls juggest what Doc said "Vampothika has done a series of tutorials on creating a Windowblind."

Make a skin what ever colors you wish from stratch using Kitty's sizes and instructions as you will learn how to line things up better from what you have been doing. You can do it and you have the desire butit's something you just can't jump into as you now realize. So enjoy it and when you are stuck ask specific questions and you will get the help. I'm only trying to give you advice and help as you asked for it.

The bottom line is your windowblinds aren't very usuable friendy and I feel this is your main problem. Colors and graphic style are up to the person making the WB.

For redneckdude, No I do not think windowblinds is exclusive to skinning. I just have not tried the other programs so tend to not mention them, but yes they all do some great skinning. Meant no harm or disrespect to that area of artists.DoorTech1.

I am going to sneak this in at the bottom. Hope it goes unnoticed. If everyone could just not upload any work for a two week period around my upload dates, I think this would really help my download totals! Food for thought. Yes JK>!!!!!!
