Loyalists, by default, because Vorastra is the coolest looking ship in the game right now!

This post has really advanced the thread, please contribute more often :)

I'm loving the Loyalist Shipboard Labs, freeing up a load of slots on my planets, though I do play a fairly capital heavy game. Not so keen on the Rebels though, some great teamwork abilities, though I don't play too many games ti consider them of too much use.

Finally got in, Vasari corvettes are way to expensive considering they come out at tier 2. I'll give a more full answers once I play the races enough.

The Vasari Loyalists are pretty good, but how do I abandon a planet to strip it to the core?

You have to research the tech (civilian tree) and then scuttle the planet. Its the same process as scuttling a ship. Research the tech in the beginning of the tree (that improves salvage speed) and the process is a whole lot faster :andrew:

Alright so here are my first impressions of the races.

Both Factions:

  • Ranuklas Battleship - Holy hell this thing is strong, that support nanite heals ships for 150 hp and gives them +2(?) armor at level 1. It is pretty much a do it all ship. But it is a battleship so it is supposed to be good at supporting their fleet.
  • Corvettes - They come later, and are expensive I think they could use a price reduction. But there passive effects are pretty good.

Vasari Loyalist:

  • There theme fits them very well, however capital ships need a better way of dealing with corvettes as the Civilian Evacuation suggests that you should have a capital ship heavy fleet. Mobile rulership will be valuable once people start using capital ship victory(But as stated before this will not happen until you fix spawn locations). Shipboard labs is pretty much in the same situation as Civilian Evacuation. The last ability however is awesome, do not scuttle your own planets, advance towards your enemy, bombard there planets then scuttle them this essentially will give you a "scorched earth" strategy.
  • Jump Stabilization is actually very good as the Vasari loyalist can now break the TEC turtle more effectively than the other races. Should there be no starbases with red button blocking the gravity well.
  • Solitary Path is kind of dumb for multiplayer to be honest you have to really gimmick your team to actually use it.
  • There weaponry is godly for what type of fleet they are supposed to build. No longer reliant on phase missiles the Capital Ships with flak is going to be a good combo.(Which unfortunately does not benefit from either techs)

Vasari Rebels:

  • My personal favorite Vasari race Starbase mobilization is really good as it makes assaulting a turtled system(such as the TEC loyalists) much easier. This is pretty much the defining ability of the Rebels.
  • All for One is a pretty cool ability as it fits their theme very well. Also shared network is going to allow for some very deadly phase jump strategies. Friendly jump telemetry is freaking awesome no Antimatter cost while in friendly territory is amazing.
  • The Vasari rebels however have not innovated on their weaponry as much as the Loyalist only their phase missiles have improved and a small boost to damage upon ending a phase jump. However, the coolest part of the Rebels is that their tech has improved through cooperation with the other races. Their shields have improved from alignment with the Advent and the TEC have shared metals with the Vasari to improve their armor.

Nitpicking:

  • Two things annoy me right now that involve the Vasari Rebels and the TEC rebels. The VR are supposed to be in cooperation with the other races. I don't think the other races would approve of them forcefully enslaving their civilians. I think Enslaved Labor should be removed. The same thing goes for the TEC-R they can unlock Public Forgiveness which does not make much sense. Although it does add more of a player feel to it maybe they should make a new mechanic where you have to choose one tech or the other. Such as you can only pick Public Forgiveness or Extreme Xenophobia.
  • I still have no received an answer to this but Fortification Specialist/Phase Jump Inhibitors(For the Advent)/Augmented Defense Grid/Hardened Cities really should go to the Defense tree. Just my opinion.
  • One last thing, the Vasari rebels are having the same problem the Advent rebels did there is no way to tell the difference between them and the Vasari from Diplo because of no early game tech.

Alright so I'm playing with the VL right now and I must say, aesthetically speaking, their Titan is the most beautiful deadly weapon of mass destruction in the game. Watching it fly around in a space battle just beats the hell out of any other Titan.

Secondly, the ability to use your cap ships to generate income, and a considerable amount of income too, as well as using them as labs, means VL will have an extremely powerful economy. This worries me.

If they are investing in a large amount of capital ships however there fleets will be smaller.

And ANY capital ship loss hurts them that much more.  So they are going to have a weak overall fleet, basically a glass cannon.  I agree with Mayal

True, true.

But even with 4 capital ships you've eliminated the need to have any actual labs, freeing up a total of 64 logistics slots through your empire to be filled with something else more valuable, say trade ports or frigate factories?

I agree with that to be honest that ability may be to strong, but then again this makes them heavily reliant on capital ships.

i played them before the release but no matter how many caps i had i still only had 3 labs idk if it was a bug or something but i they r OP all they have to do is strip a few planets and they can mass produce fleets like crazy

32 to be exact.  4*8=32, but nonetheless its extra space.  However, I will have to say once again because they become dependent on this mobile fleet, if they suffer any losses, its going to really hurt them as compared to other races.

That's 8 imperial labs and 8 military labs, so 32x2, so yes, 64.

And while it makes the reliant on these capital ships to remain alive, they only need 4 to fully benefit from the ability, add in a couple extra just to make sure that when you lose one your tech trees stay unlocked.

However, in a singleplayer game, or playing with friends versus AI, I could see myself having a lot of fun scuttling my own planets and then just roaming the galaxy with my fleet.

Both:

  • It strikes me as odd that they get Assailants at tier 1 but corvettes at tier 2.  I guess this just contributes to how unique they are.  Unfortunately though, this also inhibits their early game growth.  Unlike other races that can get ice/volcanic colonization+corvettes in three labs, they have to have four.
  • The Rankulas is very good and has replaced the Skirantra and my usual second capital.  You see, I use one capital and it's fleet to rush to the enemy lines and then create a second fleet to fill up the remaining area behind the front lines.  In a smaller map, I'd probably build a Skirantra, then this.
  • Because Reassemble creates nanite swarms that have no lifespan, after you reach level six, you may want to actually move your Rankulas to a rear/factory world and start pumping out Greater Nanite Swarms.  Free frigates that occupy no fleet supply, no duration, and can phase jump.
  • Phase cannons are awesome.  If I had my way though, I'd nerf them hard and make them only affect hull.
  • I love Vasari <3

Loyalists:

  • I haven't played with them today, but previously I wasn't really enjoying playing as them all that much.  Idk..  Going mobile doesn't really appeal to me, but then I guess that's just personal preference.
  • My gosh their wave cannons are good.  +70% damage on heavy cruisers in addition to the fact that their capitals and titan use them.
  • Mobile labs sounds like a way to rush Returning Armada (or whatever their replacement for it is) and Kosturas to me.
  • Maybe it's just me, but I don't like the fact that they don't use phase missiles on their titan.  It really bugs me.  Of course, they do use their crazy powerful wave cannons, so I guess it's okay..  Still saddens me though.
  • Vorastra has by far the best voice in the game.  "The Maw hungers!"

Rebels:

  • I love the Kultorask so much.  It uses the VR's super phase missiles plus it can drain an entire enemy fleet of frigates.  Press three buttons to win against frigate fleets: Nano Leech -> Gravity Pulse -> Dissever.  Drain -> Disable -> Kill.  I just wish Dissever would work against titans as well because right now, the Kultorask can't do a whole lot versus another titan.
  • Super phase missiles are wonderful things.  I love them.
  • Mobile Orkies are stupendously powerful.  Lose an Orky in battle?  Just send in another.  Orkies themselves are on a very similar level to titans by default, but once you can phase jump them, I always keep a fully upgraded Orky with my fleets so opponents dealing with my main fleet will have to worry about my Kultorask and my Orky, allowing the VR to do very well later on in the game.
  • Shared phase nodes is spectacular.  Early on in my latest game where I found myself in the pocket, I set up phase nodes on my planets adjacent to those of my allies' main factory worlds.  I didn't think anything else about them for a while until when assaulting the VL enemy homeworld with my primary fleet, I saw a full AR fleet jump in with it's titan.  Between the two of us, we quickly wiped out remaining enemy planets and won shortly thereafter.
  • Shared Jump Telemetry may be even better.  No AM loss when in allied space is awesome.  This is just great.
  • Enslaved Labor should be replaced by something like Strengthened Trade Agreements that increases trade income by 3%/6% or something.  As Mayall said above, it doesn't really make sense for them to do keep it.
  • The VR also need to get a unique version of the Phase Pact because it allows them to share their phase nodes with another player.  I'd say just reduce the range even farther for the VR version since they have a dedicated tech that allows them to share their phase nodes universally, not with just one other race.  Also, both the pact and the research are the same tier, so the pact for the VR really should be changed.

Overall, very good things.

I'm glad to see some kind of inhibitation.  Imagine a Vasari Loyalist in a economy spot and stripping planets rapidly to feed everyone.

Has anyone found out the hint to whats chasing the Vasari yet? I have no found it.

p.s: New Dark Fleet is pretty good.

That'll happen anyways.  I think the only weakness the Vasari are going to have now is if they get rushed by corvettes, but then they can just build an Orky and laugh at your pitiful attempts at invasion and if they're the rebels, they can proceed to jump it to your homeworld.

I did a search in the .exe for things like "Vasari," "Chase," "Pursue," etc but to no avail on the last build.  I should try again here, but my guess is that until someone decompiles (which wouldn't that be illegal anyways?) the .exe, I don't know if we'll know.

They said there was a hint somewhere :/

It is in the coding of the game. Not in actual game items.

Modders have to figure this out.

Is phase missle broken? It doesn't bypass the shield.
