I just got into this game and i love it. I dont know every detail abaut the story or codec but somtehing disturbs me. The Pirates are only TEC race. I really wanted to see Advent or Vasari pirates too. Just an opinion.
the reason there are only TEC pirates is because the Adv and Vas are invading TEC space. They are just making their presence known and so there has been no time for pirates of their factions to flourish.
Plus Stardock never put them into the game.
Makes sense.
But still it would be cool some neutral other factions to figth with.
Some popular mods have handled this by making certain planet types have different races by the neutral controlling faction. A couple examples being the Vasari holding neutral volcanics and the Advent holding neutral ice planets. When the game is finally released you can expect a lot of those mods from trinity to be ported and expanded into rebellion.
get the maelstrom mod. it pretty makes the pirates another faction and includes its own titans and dreadnought class vessels as well as 3 more reces that are well balanced.
Do i get karma?! 
its for diplomacy but there are no vasari or advent pirates. The militia forces are also strengthened, but that's nothing a dreadnought cant handle.
they have several very important new planet types. The dyson spheres are very very useful. I can fit 18 trade ports at one and get about 300 creds a second in no time
I'm afraid professional multi posters don't get paid very well, even in karma.
