Clans hmm?

Alright, so in many games i've played competitively clans were around, in sins i'd love to see more of a competitive twist coming about, perhaps making a clan would be more appealing or atleast worth the effort if there was a way to track a clan war? or a ranking system?

Even if it was one player made, i dunno if its around these days, but clanwars.cc was always a good one before ea started their own system.

Likewise we could always approach game replays looking for a spot on their website to setup mentoring, tutoring or something.

I guess what i'm saying is, how about we as a community come up with some ideas to make clans and competitive play worth while, so when rebellion is released, we have something to do than just 3s/4s/5s and make things interesting above just playing. You could say that this undermines what a game sets out to do, entertain. But for some of us, winning just isn't enough, clan politics, fighting, dissing and owning becomes just a little more than fun ;]

As a wise man (Auqia) once said....

According to my guesstimates, with the current player base of my knowledge, the top 8 players would probably win ~90% of 1v1 elimination tournaments, even with random maps; with the remaining ~10% split among the remaining online players, compstompters, and lan players. So unless you want to watch the same ~8 players brawl it out every pro competition we need more *pro* players.

Sure, rebellion may add some...but I doubt enough to change the fundamental problem:  low player counts...

You'll end up having what, two clans?  DT and maybe one other thats competitive (perhaps BIA)....

Other clans will just be people who know each other, aren't competitive, and really don't care about things like clan stats...

Yea, i've known about this problem for awhile, though from experience in other games we could offer mentoring programs for lower level players, people resort to comp stomping and lanning due to lack of knowledge and we can blame our own player base for it too, majority of onliners are assholes at best and will kick noobs from games. I know why because it can suck when you wait for a 5's and then a noob changes the entire balance, but lets be fair, if we got people signed up for mentoring on here, get some of the pro'er players to offer 1 to 1 advice and then create and entirely new group of good players, would make things more interesting.

Can base it around the forums, could get it stickied and even a section for learning.. read many times, sins is an easy game, but hard to master.. without guidance most people being lazy people will move on and not know what they are missing :]

First, in order to encourage that, you would need to have two game modes, where in one game mode your stats aren't affected...

Basically, under one game mode your win/losses record (and therefore your rank, if that was ever implemented) would never be affected....then at least pros would have nothing to lose when playing with noobs...

The biggest problem is the online player counts and the percentage of people online who only do comp stomps.  Until the online player counts increase substantially and until a larger percentage of them are playing against people, it will be impossible to have a clan scene because you can't have clans without a player base.

well even with a good 4 people in 3 different clans i can see we have the numbers for that, and tbh the win/loss stats shouldnt matter, with the amount of crashes in a game i dont see them really as much of a problem, there are some pretty egotistical players who will only play for wins, but thats just stupid and a high win/loss doesnt always relate to skill level.

anyway i wanna have a clan, i like having a clan and i like teamspeak and vent coordination on games such as this, i was thinking of hosting a community ventrilo server, maybe 15-30 slots, depending on what happens, wouldnt mind a donation or two every now and again, but what do you guys think?

I'll probably make a separate post regarding that though..

BIA aka Brothers in Arms has a roster of 16 people last time I checked.

DT aka Dream Team aka smurf clan on its peak had roster around 10 people. You cannot tell how many DTs are still playing or consider being part of DT because of smurfing and inclan tensions

well i never liked the idea of so much smurfing, but these days with steam integration, smurfing isnt really common now.

Still..

I wouldnt mind some people coming forward to perhaps help mentor younger players, to increase the upper skill player base, and clans would give people a little more fighting spirit, i have one kid im trying to teach right now, but like i said.. getting the community involved is the first step.

I give pointers now and then but most people are too proud to listen or just don't care. Besides most people give up after being stomped a few times.

Chasm between skilled and not skilled is just to great. Sins is easy to play but hard to master.

It is a game with constantly evolving strategies game in which learning curve is very high and with need for players to be able to think and out think players on the fly. There is no magic wining strategy there are counters and counters to counters. Ability to adapt and/or force your game upon other player is what divides skilled from newbs.

I know this, but it'd be nice to start teaching basic things to people, to reduce being totally destroyed..

Someone brings up teaching noobs from time to time. Thing is, most newbies don't want to be taught. I usually try to give advice to fresh players on what to build, when to attack, when to retreat etc... 80% don't listen. About 1/4 of those 80% start to insult me. 20% that do listen I usually don't see again. Give me one newbie who likes the game and is willing to learn it and I'll teach him.

I have experience in being the newbie back in the summer of 2011.
