Proper counter against torpedo cruisers & adjundicators?

When on the defense, how on earth do you deal with these bastards running in and destroying everything before they finally die?  I could have sworn that they were vulnerable to fighter strikecraft, but I just watched 12 squadrons of elite fighters do a flyby on a adjundicator, and not even deplete its shields.  If I am not able to have a sizable fleet on standby in the exact gravity well being attacked, what's the quickest way to kill them?  Or failing that, whats the best way to hold them off till a nearby fleet arrives to wipe them out before they destroy all my civilian structures?

If you are Advent, Repulsion can be your savior in this case...Hoshikos + Dem bots can also buy you some time...subverts + Distortion field I suppose could as well but that's a lot of microing...

The ship types that are best against anti-module ships are fighters, scouts, and HCs...

Fighters are not something you can build in a pinch, so if you don't already have them in advance then you'll need to default to something else...

If the ogrovs/adjudicators are mostly alone, scouts are pretty good...they are cheap and excel against light armor...furthermore, they are fast and can always run done any ship...

Of the main combat frigates (LFs, HCs, LRFs), HCs do the best against light armor...the problem with HCs though is that they take a long time to build (per fleet supply and per DPS)....but, if you already have some, they are pretty speedy and do a lot of damage...

Some things you can do before hand to deal with adjudicators and ogrovs...

  • Put some point defenses (like missile platforms) in front of your SB such that these structures can shoot the ogrovs before the ogrovs can shoot the SB (so, don't cluster the point defenses too close to the SB)
  • If you put SC on your SB, choose fighters...if you built hangar bays, choose fighters...
  • Always always always be scouting so you always know what assets your enemy has and where those assets are located...
  • Don't leave SBs alone...even a small support fleet can make a huge difference...support cruisers and flak are the two most handy units to have in these cases (as a side note, flak isn't bad per se against ogrovs, but you need to micro the flak so all weapon banks are firing)
  • If you have an Akkan, get targeting uplink on it to extend the range of SB weapons...

What if I don't yet have the time or resources to build a SB in advance?  What can I do then, besides occupy the gravity well with scouts, LF's, and LRM's?  Also, it sounds like you're implying that ogrovs/adjudicators will prioritize shooting at a SB, even if there are point defenses nearer.  Is that true?  They'll just ignore the point defenses and try to run through them to get to the SB?

Thanks for your help.

Let's break this up into 2 situations: having an SB there, and not having an SB there...

If you have an SB, the ogrovs/adjudicators may or may not target the SB first...this is sort of the point of placing point defenses "way out in front" of the SB, as it may draw fire away from the SB (and repair bays) and towards the more expendable point defenses...it's a catch 22 for the ogrovs: if they target the SB, then they have to get in range of your point defenses (assuming you placed them properly), and if they target the point defenses, then that buys you more time to reinforce the SB...

Against adjudicators, it's not so simple because they target 5 structures at once...having ships or fighters is much more important against them...

If you don't have an SB there, obviously then you are relying entirely on ships...if you don't already have a fleet there, you are most certainly going to lose structures, and there's not much you can do after the fact...

In either case, the deciding factor on what is best is whether the ogrovs/adjudicators are supported by other ships or not...if the ogrovs are primarily alone, then scouts are your best bet because they are fast, cheap, and good against light armor...

If the ogrovs are accompanied by other ships, then scouts may not work as they'll get cut to pieces too soon...it really depends on what is escorting the ogrovs...if it's primarily flak/support, then LFs followed by scouts are your best bet...if it's a whole fleet, HCs + appropriate support ships (like guardians with repulsion, or hoshikos with dem bots) are probably the best thing to have...

To be honest, the best thing you can do is always be aware of where enemy ships are...that way you don't get caught off guard...if you know ogrovs are coming, having any type of fleet may be enough to stop them if your fleet is big enough...mass scouts are really only the way to go if you are caught completely offguard and the enemy fleet is predominately anti-module ships...

Scouting and psidar technology is your best defense against ogrovs and adjudicators...scouts and fighters may work but the real key is preventive, not retroactive strategy...as long as you know they are coming, you should be able to handle them fine...

If the SB is at a key chokepoint and I am playing TEC, I will park an Akkan with Targeting Uplink. At this point, the SB will out range anything except an Enemy Up-link with Ogrovs.
