Reaction time survey

You can test yourself here:

http://www.humanbenchmark.com/tests/reactiontime/index.php

Try ten times, and post your average. I achieved 240 ms, which is pretty bad for a gamer, but I am 39 years old. The page states average college student has about 200ms, and progamers can approach 100ms.

253 and I'm 30. I suppose if I was all tooled up from playing BF3 when I tried it, I'd score marginally higher.

I'm not 100% sure what programming has to do with reaction speed. Typing might tie into a higher reaction speed....but I can type 135 words per minute when I'm on the ball.

Damn, 275 and I'm 32.  I think I killed a lot of brain cells in college...

234.3 after 10 at age 61. Failing eyesight and color blindness doesn't help.

However, on the first attempt I got a 316, and after the first 5 it said I was in the top 100 with an average of 255.8.

My conclusion is reaction time slows due the repetiveness of the test and the lack of additional visual stimulus. I know my later hits were taking longer.

Or, I could just be an old fart.

Well, input lag of monitor and response time of the mouse may also affect the test. Still... I thought I could do better.

After repeated attempts, I was able to improve to somewhat below 230 on the average, but that is really the best I can do. I suppose you can train yourself over time, but I don't think radical improvement can be achieved.

Hey, 234 at 60 year is pretty impressive! The graphs suggest that at late 50's, it gets a lot worse.

Seems like the equipment matters a lot. I tried at work where I have cheap, but fast TN monitor, and achieved an average of 204.7 out of 10.

So the test is probably not too objective. It also signifies the importance of a good hardware for fast games.

I'm also using a wireless laser mouse, cable mouse might affect results.  As well as your type of connection.

I don't believe the test is run from their server, it must be client-side application running locally in your browser as an applet. Otherwise, it would have no sense, internet lag is usually huge, especially between continents.

BTW new personal record, 196.6.

I have discovered a neat trick - Don't look at the text, if you look at the text, your high-level text processing kicks in in an attempt to read it, which is super slow! Look elsewhere, and have the colored rectangle in your peripheral vision. Reaction there is much faster, because the greatest danger comes from the sides, so we are apparently programmed to react ASAP, with a twitch, to avoid potential immediate danger.
