[Suggestion] More Interesting Battles

I was just messing around with the old editors and thought it might be good to make some examples of good tactical maps. Note the size is increased. This is the kind of detail that gets you a 10/10 rating by your users.   :d

This is a great example of an easy way to give the defending side some bonuses. The wall in the middle would be shown as crumbled, lending to the openings. The inner area would be pillars that restrict combat in the case that the attackers make i through the wall. Lasts stands would be pretty fun with that kind of checkerboard approach.

I wonder if the AI will be capable of blocking off an area so that the archers are protected. Right now I am guessing that the reason every tactical battle is in an open area with just enough room for each army to take one turn to get to the middle is due to waiting on the AI to get smarter. I haven't seen Frogboy ever tackle something like this, so I am very excited to see how he does it. Might even be worth a dev journal.

Ah.. that would be beautiful... but it would mean too much change, I am afraid.

This would be great.   Adding some choke points would really make it worth while to design defender units to hold a gap while ranged units fill the enemy full of arrows.

I once tried recreating a map from Final Fantasy Tactics in the WoM editor, but tactical maps don't like height changes very much.

Whoever is making the tactical maps is more than capable of making what I describe. You can't do it with the current editors because they were only made to make strategic maps. But there was a hill based map in WoM. A cliff would just be blocked tiles with rocks stacked to make the cliff. From there you would just need to add an accuracy bonus, which is also already a feature in FE.

The question to me is if the AI will be able to see a tile bonus and send an archer there. I would just make it so every archer seeks out an accuracy bonus like a pioneer seeks out a good city place. The same could be done for tanks to go after defense bonuses and mounted units to go after archers as a priority.

On a side note, HF tells me I we can make certain units get bonuses for being on a given tile. That means there could be sand or mud in the middle section that confers a bonus to lightweight units. Hills could give penalties to attack for everyone but mounted units. You could make a shadowrealm map that decreases accuracy and defense. The possibilities are staggering.
