Web Cam

Anyone have a recommendation for a low-maintenance web cam server that does live streaming? Needs to run on a Windows XP Pro with 1GB memory. I've used WebCam32 for years but it seems the Windows updates have finally rendered it obsolete. What I have tried so far are either too fat or too expensive. I tried a really cool one yesterday called AbelCam but it plunged the poor, old desktop into nearly a dead stop and when I used Task Manager to kill the program the computer went blue screen (both times) We're talking old Dell desktop. It served me well back in the day...

Ugh, i was going to recommend AbelCam. Like you say, its very cool, but can be memory intensive, 1GB sure is going to result in some issues.

I have used before, SasCam. Its not as slick as AbelCam, but its a nice app and it may well suit your memory restrictions.

SasCam. It is wonderful to install and easy to use, but I need just a little more stuff like time stamp and choose the port. I also don't like that if you click the video anyplace it takes you to the home site with is covered with adult-only links. Not good for a family friendly web system. I can't stand the dark pink with black writing either - ugg. I wish I knew enough about skinning apps to give that one a face lift.

If you've ever heard of resource hacking (for private use only and I cannot stress more that you should not distribute any modified software as 9 times out of 10 it goes against the licence agreement). You could modify the programs content easily. To name a few programs that allow you to do this, XN Resource Editor, Resource Hacker and Resource Tuner.

EDIT: this isn't possible with SasCam, although I just downloaded it I think it's rather poor quality.

I think I might have found it! It is a little bit of a software called Yawcam. It had a light foot print and even does a few things more than WebCam32. Free, has it's own http server, lots of things to mess with. I had it up and running in about 3 minutes.

Seems good so far. See: http://71.94.241.102:8081 (don't laugh, I use it to check on the cars and yard when I am out of town. We're right next to a school)
