locked post (edited)

Neil, we know about "my replies" and "my posts" but that doesn't take into account new posts that are found under "recent posts". give us an opt out/in function so we can untick "everything else" if we choose not to see that.

My understanding is it is likely the posts from Everything Else will be pulled from the list on the front page and on the drop down list at the top.

Unfortunately allowing more complicated per user opt in etc runs the risk of slowing the site down and I think none of us want to return to the bad days of slow forums.

Hey.. gmc2... c'mon now, don't get bent over such a small thing as this.

Jafo made it painfully simple in his explanation of why and what to do if one is not happy with it.

I don't want to see any evil happen to anyone because of something so trivial!!

I'm not bent, I just think that posting something locked except for mod comments is kind of wrong.

Not at all. It wasn't meant as a "post" in the typical sense. It's a Sticky (pinned) announcement and a function usually meant for site admins to post rules/news/etc for the general population.

Thousands of places do it and I think WC has every right to do it along with them.

Even "netflix, BofA and verizon".

Slow down the forums... lol, WC is the slowest forum on the internet and has been for the last ten years ;)

Yes, Phoon is quite correct....;)

It is only [mostly] inappropriate to lock another's thread.  Locking Admin notifications should be a concern to no-one.

This particular thread was in response to another which was REMOVED by Admin because it was nothing more than an opportunity to flame.

THAT was the preferred option as the alternative was to censure the individual flamers instead.

The "issue" was somewhere between 'pathetic' and 'banal'.

Just a point to remember...Wincustomize-specific Users ALSO are commenting in these threads so clearly it's yet another case of the vocal minority wanting the world to bend to their wishes.

Wincustomize-specific Users

I don't know who this is referring to?

I'm sorry to have made the post, you guys don't listen anyhow, attempting to make a point was futile on my part.

as usual, anyone that objects is pathetic and banal, and the mods are infallible and great.

I apologize for overstepping my humble boundaries, please forgive me.

Wincustomize-specific Users

I don't know who this is referring to?

In a word - Skinners.

Wincustomize.com Subscribers - people 'here' as in signed into http : / forums.wincustomize.com

As always....comments are mis-construed for 'dramatic effect'.

It is the objections that are trivial and banal, not the people posing them.

And you wonder why threads are locked.

ah, thank you for the clarification. I guess that includes me as well.

Regarding my post to a locked thread, I posted on that thread because the original thread was deleted so I could either undelete it and thus undo a mods decision, or post somewhere where I knew everyone who posted on it might look.

The idea was to give additional information about some changes which should address some of the concerns.

In an ideal world users would be able to hide forums based on their personal feelings about them, but that could well increase server load and as Fuzzy rightly says the SD forums are not the worlds quickest though things are considerably better than they used to be.  Far few errors now.

I do think we should listen to customer feedback on usablity issues encountered with the site and I think it would be most helpful to hear views on that, but obviously we cannot promise to make specific changes as development time and server impact have to be considered.

Perhaps we could retask this thread to thinking about ways to enhance the sites main page to increase the numbers of people who interact with others on the site rather than just download the latest skins?

One question. I think I asked in the other thread (or commented) and never received a reply.

I don't recall, previous to the last maintenance/overhaul you all did a few weeks ago, the forums being so profoundly littered with cross postings from gaming threads and such. Was this something done during the maintenance? If so, was it to conserve space, money, both, or more?

If I'm wrong about the recent incursion of threads from outside of WC, I apologize. Like I said, I only just noticed this change myself. Maybe I overlooked it before.

Man oh man this stuff is getting old. I think this thread asked a question and the first reply was the answer but it just keep going and going into something not so nice so I decided to say something. I made a thread yesterday, had a question about Photoshop. Doc replied with the answer right away as Neil did here. I said thank you and my thread is at the bottom now where it should be as it was answered. We all know what a big problem is that started not to long ago so not getting into that. Saying that other things have changed that have nothing to do with that. Where have a the fun threads with peoples pics were being photo shopped and the funny comments that came along with those. Where has a lot of it gone. I don't know and we can all have a guess but I bet there would be many different guesses.

If one really thinks about it the price per year to belong here is very cheap for uploading. downloading, etc. etc. and so on. The bottom line is, it is what it is. I (we) don't own the company or run it. We don't pay for all the bandwidth needed or anything else except for a small fee each year.

Neil wrote "My understanding is it is likely the posts from Everything Else will be pulled from the list on the front page and on the drop down list at the top" This was the answer to the main question and will make many happy and yes even I will feel better. So we all need to look at it in a different way.

Lets just go about our business and upload our graphics. Maybe get some of the other people back that think of the funny threads and lets shop some pics, etc. These are my thoughts and i'm not asking anyone to agree with me. All I'm asking is to think about the situation and help to improve on it. Together we can do that but not alone.

Thank you.

There's always been threads from "outside" WinCustomize, and everyone has to remember our forum system is Stardock-wide.  They are all mixed in one way or another.  WC has tons of non-skinning threads, birthday threads, hey look at my dog threads, etc.  A thread "outside" WC is introduced and suddenly it's a crisis.

Every once and a while threads and such are shuffled around and what might not have been seen before is now seen.  Some don't like it, and then certain cliques come into play and we see how it goes from there.

This reminds me of a few years ago when a few members brought nothing but negativity and behind-the-scenes scheming.  They were all removed from the site and the forums nearly instantly became lively again.  I'm sure many of you remember this, and I think it's time to do another cleaning as well.

Just to be clear about my recent post which was locked and then removed regarding duplicate posts...which is what it was really about. There have been numerous times where posts were duplicated and my question was basically why was it necessary to create yet another about the same thing.

The "word association" & "Keep a word drop a word" posts seemed to be carrying on fine without duplicating them. I just thought this was being redundant. It wasn't meant as a flame or anything like that.

Generally when I see something that may or may not annoy me in the forums...I write my reply in notepad...let it sit and then delete it having gotten it out of my system.

Yes, there are a few existing 'duplicates' but all have been on-going for quite some time [years] so it'd be presumptuous of a Wincustomize Admin to step in and remove one or other so late after the fact.

WHEN duplicates are found....soon enough - that is, before dozens/hundreds of responses, they are locked or removed, with preference given to the most-responded...;)

Maybe it's just me, and due to the fact my mental illness does quite often make me see things negatively, but the last part of that statement comes across as a threat. Maybe I'm wrong and it's just misinterpretation on my part.

It's the last post that makes it ironic (in one way), dontcha think?

I hadn't noticed many duplicates. But then again I hadn't noticed a lot of these posts until just recently popping up.

Beating a dead horse...sometimes, it just gets tiring.

So does the use of the phrase "beating a dead horse." ;)
