Demigod crashes when launching a single player game

Have Windows 7 on a Compaq computer. Recent bought Demigod through Steam.

The main menu works, I go to single player skirmish, I go through selecting a player and arena as well as other AI, click Launch Match/Game, it looks like it starts loading, then it freezes, every time. What's the problem?
