Stabases, Mines, and the Empire Tree

My friends and I have been playing LAN games a lot lately, and while we've had a lot of fun, we've noticed a small issue. Since we normally prefer to play on large maps, most of us usually set our empire trees to only auto-pin our fleets and nothing else, to avoid clutter. However, whenever you build a starbase the game pins the gravity well you build it in to the empire tree, and won't let you unpin it. This wouldn't really be a problem, if it wasn't for the fact that the game also pins all the mines too. Last night we were playing a game where I held down a star's grav well with 4 starbases and ~500 mines for most of the game. The bar from the star's entry on the empire tree extended almost across my entire screen. I found that to be distinctly inconvenient. Does anyone know if there's a way to unpin starbases from the empire tree? Or (since I don't really mind the starbases being pinned) a way to unpin the mines? I'd really appreciate any help ya'll can give.

However, whenever you build a starbase the game pins the gravity well you build it in to the empire tree, and won't let you unpin it.

Hover over the "pin" icon to see what items are pinned. Everything pinned can be unpinned, and everything unpinned can be pinned.

Starbases, not gravity wells, are automatically pinned. To unpin, you have to select the starbase and unpin, rather than selecting the planet and then unpinning.

Unpinning the Star bases is easy, though yes I agree you should be able to set this to automatic. Maybe Rebellion.

You simply use the pin button in the upper left corner of the Empire tree.
