Dungeons and beast-heroes

DUNGEONS

At the begining of EWOM there was some talk about dungeons in the game, but the concept died and i heard nothing more about it. I think this concept could add a lot of replayability for the game since we could have random generated dungeons on random generated maps. Think about it, you have a lost library near your base but its haunted and gives you no bonus. Then you need to enter it and fight the ghosts, and wen you get out the resource is fully functional again. It could even be a spell, so you "haunt" some enemy resource and makes him fight back for it spending his time and units. Of course a haunted resource is only an example, it could be anything. I think there should be a limit of units that can enter the dungeons at same time. It would be very cool if the dungeon map is already a tatical battle, then you literally have to fight your way in.

BEAST-HEROES

All heroes i´ve seen so far are humans or fallen humanoids. Think about a quest were you save a  little wolf from a trap. Then this animal become your friend. The wolf is young and it will grow stronger, so why not level up, why not get some new feats. You could also have a darkling hero. It would add a lot of fun to the game. Remember the dragon egg misson? Think abou keeping the egg and raising the dragon like a hero, it would be awesome. You could even have a hero warg mount that gives you some unique feats. Of course you´ll need some requirements for some kind of heroes (maybe for some giant spider hero), but it could even give more depth to the techtrees and add lot more quests. Like the other, this concept add a lot for the game variability and replayability, also this one is very easy stuff to implement.

I think that we can elaborate furhter and make it worth implementing on the game. So, what do you think about it people, give some ideas.

Heavenfall implemented Dungeons in After the War mod (Artifacts sub-mod) for WoM 1.4.

Best regards,
Steven.

I want unusual heroes too.  That crap always makes me giddy like a little kid when I find stuff like that.

How did dungeons worked on Heavenfall?

Maybe there could be a vampire with a soul? Or perhaps a girl, chosen to fight against the darkness? There are plenty of great ideas out there just waiting to be stolen. How about using the standard farmer shtick, only the farmer is actually an alien raised by farmers. They found him in a meteorite, soon realizing that this realm's sun gives him unnatural powers.

There is nothing wrong with a little tongue in cheek.  :)

no doubt you can easily implement any of these ideas, but i think you missed the concept here. Super man, girl, vampire are all humanoid beings. Here im talking about something different, like a wolf or a dragon. Its a beast. Maybe there should be an ability tree for beasts as well so they can evolve on its way.

Just saw Derek´s new post and there is a badass multi tile creature. It could be a hero too.... O:)

Well, this is the Artifacts thread, where Dungeons are explained.

Also about dungeons, i looked a little into heavenfall work. It´s very impressive. They really put a lot of effort in it. And they have dungeons!

But i thought dungeons like a place were you enter and explore. There would be chests and traps, secret passages and dead ends. It would be a tight palce, so you cant enter with the entire army what gives you a chalenge even in late game. The basic concept of the Heavenfall mod could be a good starting pont. You could have consecutive random encounters like they did (so the tatical map doesnt need to be that big), but need some bigger tatical maps with mazing walls and fog of war, so it will look more like a dungeon. Thematic stuff like skulls, torches and ancient writings on the walls helps a lot the imersion.

And you could have real thief heroes, with lockpicking and detect/disarm traps. There could be traps and chests in others encouters too, so the thief dont get limited to dungeons. It will boost incredibly the RPG part of the game.

So you want them to put an entirely new game into the existing one? Better find a powerful genie.  :P

I think we'll need to rely on the mod community to implement dungeons in FE <cough> Heavenfall!

I agree with you that the "thief" playstyle is a little bit too much, altough im not sure if its hard stuff to code. But the other concepts here are far easy to be implemented. In fact, some of them have already been implemented by Heavenfall.

We are half way. Tanks a lot SD for the dungeons! Now we need that multi tile hero, or just some little dragon to pet.

So pets would be awesome, I am all over that idea. Maybe minimal combat abilities but slight utility here and there?

But I digress, back to the original post. I believe it would be really bloody awesome to have 'monster' heroes. As already mentioned, darklings is a good and easy start.

My contribution to the other idea, of per say, wolves would be to have a werewolf hero, it would be fairly easy to implement a quest where a normal person goes missing and you find them and they are a permanent werewolf. After accepting them into your party they could wear some of the standard armors, although only some. Use melee weapons (or fight with claws), and finally have abilities like lunge and blood-hunt. Of course, no horses or magic for these wolf men.

On another note, how about making that troll that you meet who asks you to help him be an actually 'henchmen' type. Maybe men are unwilling to call him their direct leader but he could be something of the sort. Being able to use weapons he finds, equip some armor, etc..

The same goes for 'Crow Demons' or other magical creatures, why not have one in a thousand that will have a mind of its own? A background? Some armor, a different weapon, etc.

I would also add, that I believe it should be difficult and unusual for a player to acquire these heroes. As they would probably be quite unique themselves there would be only a handful and as such should be things that are hard to obtain.
