Download Limits

I am an active software subscriber.  Account is good through the middle of 2012.

For the past  few days, I am getting a notice not allowing any more downloads saying I have reached a magical no download limit.

Contacted Wincustomize's customer support and have not recieved help within 48 hours.

I have been around here for 10 years and this is the first I have ever seen a limit placed on the usability of Wincustomize.

Also noticed an annoying popup keeping me from seeing the page as I come to the site and making me want to surf to another site.

I couldnt even close the popup in internet explorer.

Searching the forums suggests clearing the cache, and that did not help.

Any other suggestions?

I don't see a WC Subscription on your account, so you will be seeing advertisements on the site.  The one popping up now you can just X out of and continue on WinCustomize.  Subscribing to WinCustomize can eliminate these ads.

As far as download limits I don't see any issues on your account.  I suggest using a tool like CCleaner to completely clean your cache/cookies.

Awesome, thank you.

Haven't used ccleaner in forever on this laptop.  Will try that.

Actually I haven't been able to 'X' that ad out either. I have to stop the page loading and then refresh the page in order to be able to see the main page. I use Opera on Vista 64. I don't mind loading the normal ads because I know it generates revenue for the site; but that one is kind of annoying. Hopefully it will be gone after the "2 day only sale" is over.  ;P

Even if you don't have a WC Subscription, but have a current product that you bought from Stardock, you will be able to download unlimited data, until the next major version of a program you bought came out which would switch your status in your account from "Current Customer" to "Past Customer" at that point you would need to buy the upgrade or subscribe to WC.

*Note* Purchasing a standalone Stardock product only gives you unlimited downloads for that version, it does not remove the ads.

I thought that was true also; however, a few days ago I tried to download a CursorFX skin and was told that I have reached my download limit.  My Object Desktop subscription is current until Dec. 26.

I have been a member for a couple years and I still get the annoying  pop-up ads no matter what I do, and believe me, I have spent a ton of money on Stardock products. :annoyed:

AceMatrix are you saying that you are seeing ads even after signing in to WC?

YES....that annoying "Best-Buy" pop-up ad drives me nuts when I open WC.

I get that before signing into the WC site but no ads after signing in.

I will say something silly now, so don't take offense, just going to the WC site is not signing in so you will see ads until you do.

Ace, to be ad-free, you need to subscribe to wincustomize ($9.99 a year). You have Current Customer status on your profile page. That gives you unlimited downloads, but not ad-free browsing.

And yeah, that's the ad I was talking about too. I can click that X until the :moo: s come home and it refuses to go away.

Ran CCleaner and it did not help.

Still seems to have a download limit in place and tells me my subscription is not current.

hmmmm.. This started Tuesday or Wednesday.  And my Object Desktop subscription is good through May of 2012

Yeah, it looks like there's an issue with IE and that ad.  I have contacted the people responsible.

Several things could be causing that including security software, browser add-ins, etc.  Have you installed anything since it started?

The best buy ad seems to be fixed for me now. I was able to close it just now with the X. It isn't popping up when I close that page and reopen it to make sure that it won't be a problem next time; but it's certainly progress. Thanks, ID.  k6

@Ace, no problem. Happy browsing.  :D

nothing installed that I am aware of on desktop or laptop at work except possibly flash or maybe skype update.  And, I tried downloading on a linux workstation at work that hasn't been updated in over a year with the same results.  It keeps me logged in, it's just saying I am a previous customer.  Somewhere there is a disconnect between wincustomize and the stardock current customers database... at least for my account.

This started Tuesday or Wednesday when the new main page "click to access" marketing ad began.

Ads...  I know they are the norm these days, just surprised by the newest one.  And then annoyed when it wouldn't click away.  thanks for fixing that.  :)  Usually don't see site blocking front page adds on sites like Wincustomize... though I understand the method of deployment and results generated.

Just think, if all the web visitors clicked on 2-3 adds per visit, Wincustomize would get funding to grow a lot!  Now start clicking...

Don't the ads generate at least some amount of revenue for the site just by being loaded in the users browser? If not, I'll gladly click a few ads each day to help support the site. I just can't afford the $10 right now seeing as I am a starving college student living off his slightly fed college student / part-time worker boyfriend and a few scholarships.  :erk:

After spending about 30 minutes looking through your account, I did find something "odd".  I believe I fixed it as you now show as a current customer and I was able to download skins via your account.

Clear your browser and cache first though, and try again.
