Hero upgrades and tech

In the recent FE update there is an epic screenshot of a hero leveling and having multiple choices to upgrade their abilities - including the "rare" Double Strike.

My suggestion is to have certain techs and buildings (and quests and everything else) influence the probability of particular abilities. For example a level 4 city upgrade could be "Duelist School" which has all the usual bonuses for a city upgrade, but also increases the probability of having the choice of "Double Strike" from 2% to 5%.

Likewise a random druid quest can increase the chance of nature magic abilities. The "Logistics" tech increases odds of Intelligence abilities. etc etc

If nothing else, please just expose the ability probabilities in XML so that modders can implement such ideas. :)

Here here! The trait system opens up so many possibilities.  :D

It has the advantage that it can help make factions more distinct by having unique faction buildings that increase probability on specific hero abilities. If an ability has a probability of 0% initially then it even allows for faction-only hero abilities.

Dynamic trait probabilities would be better left off of vanilla FE but opened for modding.

hmmm... you mean out of balance considerations?

I plan on just having unique buildings that give your regular troops special traits. I don't know if you can do the same with heroes, but it would be nice.

In addition to Hero upgrades and tech, how about having weapons and armor that boost the Magic of Heros and Sovereign. The focus in E:WoM was on War rather than Magic. Magic was really underpowered in E:WoM as far as combat was concerned, the most effective spells were those cast on the map.

There could be a magical staff that multiplies the magical attack and magical armor that increases defence so the Hero can be a true Mage class instead of a warrior with essence who happens to cast some spells on the map.

And we will finally be able to have healer as a mage specialization.

gsitetfs raises a good point. The game should not be about getting the biggest sword, heaviest armor and smartest spell onto one unit. There should be trade-offs; and the best casters should not be the best fighters, which in turn should not be the best tanks.

To me the upgrades give an opportunity for more unique heroes. Heroes were my favourite part of MOM because they had personality to them and every game they could potentially have different attributes. Traits unique to certain heroes would be great to see. Also, different hero power classifications that scale with the game(basic/advanced/legendary) These could be unlocked by tech/quest lvls or specific events/spells/reqs
