Idea for Race Generator (Probably not for FE but maybe a seperate download via expansion or whatnot)

Multiple body types = greater number of fantasy races = greater replayability

I would like to have a race generator that I could use to make my own worlds with the races that I would like to have populating them.  After several mentions on other posts I realized that I hadn't given any thoughts on how to go about this.  Back in tha day, I remember playing a game that had diff. animals you would play & roam around attacking other types of animals,  the cool part was that you could take say a lion & mix it with lets say an elephant and have a monsterous lionphant with the constitution/size and hide of the elephant & the claws, head, speed of the lion.  I think if we had a list of 20-100ish diff "animal" (wolf, ogre, bandit, snake, spider, troll, dragon, eagle, centepede, ant, slug, clam, lobster, crab, octopus, bull, scorpion, shark, etc.)  body types to choose from that we could take say the hard exterior of the ant with the regen of a troll, or the size of a blue whale with the features of a squid we would be able to make any type of fantasy creature our hearts desired without upsetting the default Elemental storyline by having all these races pre-made.

Hell could even make it possible to design/obtain different races in-game via=

quest: 1. You help out/kill a dragon and obtain it's eggs granting you the ability to use your arcane abilities to transform them into a half dragon\half human species

quest: 2. Your hero discovers some wierd vile & decides that drinkin it is a good idea, turning him into a half frog

spell: You decide to poison the water supply of target city turning all whom drink the water there to turn into undead allowing your blunt weaponed horde to mascre the brittle defenders

building: Totem Of Creation or something, would use mana in the creation of the races and you would possibly have to have prior knowledge of the type of creature you would like to make into a new race by killing/capturing at least one of them first

I know this would prolly be very time consuming & expensive but if we had this & the other generators (quest, spell, faction, minor faction, hero, sov., item, etc.) just think of the possiblities, it would be the first and only fantasy turned based strategic war game that offers the player's' any fantasy world they could imagin, all they have to to is build it (Or download one of the many many many mods that would come from such a venture).

A few of the modders have done some great things in this department. The game is set up to support anyone that wants to make their own skins and models. I think they probably made this part easy to do with other software rather than spend resources making a race creator themselves. That said, I would love it.

I would think this to be the last mod tool they should consider making. We really need a quest creator first.

the order that they come in makes no difference to me personally, just as long as they all get implemented at some point (so the majority of us that don't know squat about modding can make cool wolrds too)

This sort of dynamic 3d modelling is incredibly complex. We're talking years of development just to achieve something like that. It is well beyond a semi-independent game like Fallen Enchantress. In fact as far as I know, it has only ever been achieved in two engines, the engine for Spore, and dx11 tesselation.

Edit: Oh yeah, there was a 3d rts game as well, which half-assed it... can't think of the name though.

Impossible Creatures...  Fun game.

Yeah, dynamic graphic asset creation is hard.   Dynamic Race characterstics, names, colors, and other types of randomness is not so hard.   Still alot of work if it needs to be intelligent about the design, but doable.

GalCiv2 had such a wonderful ship editor. Wish that could translate to this game, but that one was only possible because ships are just blocks. Animations are probably too complex to make it work here. Wish it would though.

HF, who did most of the work on the Expanded Factions races? Was that Raven X?

Raven X didn't do anything except skins for the Elves. A whole bunch of people helped out with tiles, and beyond that I did the races (the 3d models were obviously adapted from the core game).

Oh, you did a great job on them. I think of them as part of the core game now. I hope that you have time to do as much for FE as you did for WoM. Unfortunately I will be at sea about the time FE comes out, so I probably won't get much modding time until next fall. I would hope that the increase in game quality will attract a few more to the mod community. It's probably the easiest game to mod that I have played.

The plan is to have expandedfactions go over to FE, but they're going to be more seamlessly integrated to be more modular with other mods. That might mean I'll have to sacrifice some of their special stuff. We will see how the XML has developed.
