Quest Editor Request

It has come up plenty of times in other threads but here it is again.

While many other parts of Elemental are very easy to mod, quests are not. This is shown by all the weapon and unit mods but the lack of fan made quest mods. You would think they would be super popular, but the difficulty in learning to make them is a real barrier.

In order for FE to be totally repayable we can't be doing the same quests over and over and over. Either the devs need to make 100 quests or fans have to start writing their own. A quest editor would do amazing things for the game community. Quest writing isn't even the same as  modding, its more like world building and content creating.

Please Stardock a easy to use quest editor would really help make Fallen Enchantress great!

This has been a long time coming. It would save me so much time if I would designate the tiles, write the dialog boxes, pick the loot, pick the enemies, and pick the tactical map from one screen. There is alot of room to improve the quest system by adding AI scripts (like attack only the heroes). It would also be nice to be able to have a quest location do a larger variety of actions (spawn monsters, give multiple new quests, present choices that affect the outcome, remember what happened in the previous quest, and of course to be able to trigger a random event- timed, or initiated by satisfying a condition).

There is a whole thread from a bit back that has every modder's wishes for the quest system for WoM.

I was hoping a modder-coder would take up the call to this one. We know the capabilities and limits of the quest xml. It's all there, quite doable. When I did the Dungeons for the Artifact mod, it was quite obvious that the game had no problems with large amounts of data (I think the xml for just the quests is something like 1.8mb for 150 quests). But, more importantly, the quest xml is all top-down, so it shouldn't even be very hard to do some randomization of various events.

While a community editor would work fine I think a official one would have a crucial advantage. Firstly like the faction creator it could be accessible from in game, and that would really shove it in peoples faces. This is important because the easier it is for people to notice and use the more people will use it. I mean after playing a game or two of elemental who wouldn't want to churn out a few custom quests before starting another game.

I could dedicate a few days to learn how to make proper quests through xml but that's not the point. It's all about getting as big as a community as possible producing and sharing quests, and people are lazy. You don't have to lurk the forums to learn about and use a official quest editor. It can be advertised in-game.

You could have basically every single player messing around with the editor between games and it would add so much to the game. Repetitive quests make the game boring fast. Also after using the editor what are they going to do next? They are going to head to the forums and download community quest packs, and after that they are going to get involved with other areas of modding and the forums. Thus the population of the forums and the community profits as well.

A good official quest editor would improve the game and community 100x, no joke.

I agree.  AND, from a profit / marketing point of view.... the more mod-able a game is, the longer it lasts as a  product new players purchase.

Agreed. Been hoping for this since WoM beta!

I'm not sure how many quests FE will have compared to WoM...I would be very curious to know. I hope it is a much larger variety. I always get really tired of the small WoM quest pool.

Something like this really would be a huge boon, since there are tons of very creative people here who would make lots of great quests, if it were a bit easier to do.

yes please, & I think this would be alot easier to implement than the multi-body type race generator I'm wanting, while offering the same kind of replayability (Have a faction gen., sovereign gen., map, race, quest, hero, wildland, spell, building, minor faction, Item, .......am I missing any)

This would add so much to the game.  I hope it gets added.
