Pirates! ARG!

Pirates! ARG!

Hi so I'm a complete noob to this game but it just looks ( and from what I've played ) like awesomesauce.

The problem I have though is that once I've taken over a neutral planet and wiped out the resistance I immidiately start getting pirate convoys launching off to come attack my planet.

I need A.) Weapons to deal with them. They have no shields yet nothing I have seems to put a dent in some of them.

B.) More ships. I've taken over one or maybe two planets and they are assaulting me with a force of over 12 ships!

Do I need to be building a ton more ships earlier on?

I'm playing Trinity and I've heard they can be overwhelming due to their upgrades with each add-on. Should I start with just playing the base game before I move on to the expansions?

Any help kindly appreciated!

( Yes I suck. )

Might seem like a dumb question:

But is there a way to make sure pirates keep going to one planet that I want them to so that I might implement these strategies?

They generally go to the closest planet of their targeted empire. Just find that one and fort it up. If you have two or more (which can happen) then no.

I'm still very new to the game.

But I just played a small map by myself (pirates only).   Just to get a feel for how it would play out.   I basically wiated a couple of raids, realized they would pick off the same two planets, and was able to build tactical structures and park a capital ship on each planet.   Then... I built up research, got that giant cannon thingy and tore them up lol.   Very satisfying lol

I just kind of wanted to explore the research tree and play with the game a bit.   Research is a slow progress I noticed.   This game is tough.  It's going to be a fun challenge getting into it.

3 or so turrets and a couple repair bays can effectively fight off most pirate raids. Maybe add a few turrets the stronger the pirates get... or build a starbase on the targeted planet.

I personally consider pirates too annoying to play with and always turn them off :(

Play with Faster research speeds (Diplomacy). You'll get the low-level techs you want in no time! Higher levels still take a while though...

(Experienced Sins players rarely research more than a few of the essential low-level techs, except if they're playing against a very strong AI (Cruel or Vicious) and the game is going to take a very long time.)

This game is tough.  It's going to be a fun challenge getting into it.

Once you think you have the basics down, consider coming online eventually: playing against decent opponents adds a whole new dimension to the game!

You are almost getting as bad as Dirty. Not that that is a bad thing.

Well, there appear to be a very large number of Sins players who have no idea that ICO even exists. Since player counts online are low I'm figuring that I'll do what I can to increase awareness and lower the learning curve if possible, to lure more people online.
