Rebellion Without a Cause

So it’s been nearly four months since the announcement for Rebellion was made and what have we gotten in terms of information since then? A screenshot, some promised features and of course, the opportunity to pre-order it. Or nothing at all if you don’t count the initial announcement.

I wasn’t expecting weekly updates, but four months with just one piece of news to go on seems a little strange. Shouldn’t there be a marketing department somewhere trying to win people over for this? I mean come on, a screenshot, interview, preview article, anything at all would be super swell at this point, and would do a lot to justify pre-ordering this.

I worry Bev, I worry a lot.

Indeed, I won't be preordering this until I see something more substantial than a screenshot and a vague list of features.

Beta hasn't even started, what reason would you possibly have to preorder it if you didn't simply because it was announced?

Agreed; for the most part, the people here have either pre-ordered or will pre-order when the beta becomes available.

I'd just like to add that there isn't a screenshot:P I assume you are both referencing the Titan; that was concept art, not a screenshot.

Screenshot verse concept art, same difference, it is still nothing tangible.

We're waiting until we have some more in-game art assets ready before releasing anything further. ;)

Next month. Always next month.

Oh waaah...be patient.

But pics or it didn't happen. :ninja:

I'd rather the development team focused on things that matter, like game design.  I could care less how hyped this expansion will be.  Don't bust their balls over not following the same carefully constructed hype pattern that these other game companies follow.  From what i've read, the developers know how to focus their resources on what matters, that is why they make great games.

You never judge a work of art before it is finished, if the artist lets you see it before hand count yourself lucky!

They are revamping and polishing diplomacy and patching diplomacy expansion.

That means they are still working on versions that are already out and I think there will be no major updates on Rebellion before diplomacy updates are finished.

well, theres a good chance that alot of the diplo work is laying the foundations of the rebellion stuff?

behind the scene changes that make features in rebellion possible, i assume?

Just cause we dont have fancy pictures of titans doesnt mean that like... all the gameplay stuff isnt being worked on.

maybe. hopefully.

I think latest upcoming update is in fact foundation (= polished product) on which rebellion will add to.

And I do think they are indeed working on rebellion they just wont release any major data .....

What exactly would be more tangible than a screenshot, besides a beta? A screenshot says "hey, look, we have this awesome Titan in the game now." Concept art just says that they have, well, a concept for what the Titan is going to look like/do. There is a world of difference between the two.

All well and good on the " when it's done front" but the idea that you make the game available for pre order gives the impression that it's further along than it is.

btw my guess is Spring 2012. for full release.

No way is Stardock going to risk a repeat a EWO mess.

A video.

To be perfectly honest, I lost interest in Rebellion. Their list of new features does not address any of the major problems with the game. Ships don't even move in 3D space. My suggestion is to forget about Rebellion. It's basically a remixed Trinity with the additions of titans and corvettes. I'm not even sure if it's worth pirating unless you want a definitive version of Trinity on your hard drive.

gtfo you troll.

Please don't mention pirating our software.  A lot of people work very hard to make this stuff and anyone who pirates basically spits all over us.

I think most folks will think Rebellion is well worth the money as it makes a large number of changes, but if it's not worth your while, that's fine.

bluesuns is a known problem when it comes to saying things he shouldn't, take this for example.

Bad bluesuns, stay on Starcraft where you belong. :P

@Zeta1127, that might not be the nicest thing to say, even if it is true.

@Yarlen, keep up the good work, I for one, am eagerly awaiting more news on Rebellion, even if it will be released next month. Or the next. Or the next.

Ignore him Pbhead. He is just trying to get attention.

@Yarlen - Recommend just locking him out as that is all he does. But it is your call.

You can move ships in 3D space in SOASE.

Problem is: the Z-Axis programmed for shite, weapon ranges don't work right, and you can do some funky abuse with the whole accelerating more as you approach a planet bit to damned near slingshot your ship past the Z (which I kinda like and wished it worked on all axes, honestly - reminds me of battle mode in Star Control 2!). I'm not certain why weapon ranges still work like crap along the Z-Axis and why certain things are not able to rotate along the Z-axis to partially address certain problems... meh.

Terrible sportsmanship issues arise online though if you try to use the Z, so... don't.

As for pirating? Stealing is stealing. I like the old Arabian approach to thieves - chop! Make a community of lefties.

IMHO, the use of the Z-Axis is a game bug and is a form of cheating; the game was meant to be played in the XY plane.

TBH I pirated sins about 5 months before entrenchment's release. Yeah, I did it. BUT!!! I was so impressed with the game and excited I went and bought it as soon as i could save up the money, scrapped my old files, and I've actually tried contributing to the modding community as of late, I already have about $45 stashed away for Rebellion ;p. I admitted my wrong doings and today I own a hard copy of Sins OG(original game) and a copy of trinity :D  I guarantee I'll never be kicking this game to the side(like star craft, spore, or the many others I "sampled" and never bought)

*awaits judgment for previous life crimes against the programmers* ;_; be gentle I'm fragile

We had a friend who had legitamately purchased the original copy of SINS and three of us borrowed it, placed it on our computers and then all four of us stomped around the SINS universe for a while. This was back before Impulse and you could download patches off of File Front and such.

Needless to say, three months into playing the game all three of us were so impressed we each bought Collectors Editions of the original game and since then we have purchased each micro-expansion and still play.

I jam out to the Sins Music CD every now and then. :andrew:
