iPhone got wet, won’t come on, how to fix

So this weekend I had to take my boat out of the water. In the process I had to wade into water that was up to my waste. Unfortunately, my iPhone was in my pocket.

Like an idiot, I immediately try to turn it on and got just the Apple logo which came on and then would go off. After a few tries of turning it on and off, I didn’t even get the Apple logo.

Ruined. Dammit. $500. @#$@#$@#!

So then I started searching online. Surely, I wasn’t the first person who had done this. I found lots of advice (most of it bad) and none of the advice I found actually included whether it was taken and the results.

Well, the one piece of advice I took was to take the iPhone and put it in a bag of plain dry white rice. I was skeptical about whether this would work.  But next morning, sure enough, I plugged it in to recharge and voila, all we right in the world. Good as new.

You got lucky brad, I washed mine but unfortunately the rice did not work, it was bricked.. my boy tho has washed his multiple times by leaving in his pocket, and each time fired right back up after the rice drying ...

Did you try dehydrated pizza for yours? ;P

Will any of these methods work if you drop your cellphone in a cup of Pepsi?

Forget it. The syrup never comes out, although the bubbles seem to come out easily enough... ;)

my spare iphone 4 went thru a wash cycle a few months ago. unfortunately, the rice bag trick didn't work for me. i had it on my desk as a paper weight for months waiting for  my next trip to the apple store in indy to get it replaced for $200. recently, my son's phone was stolen in san francisco so i sent the paper weight to him so he could get it replaced out there. the young lady at the san fran apple store replaced it for free. he said he told her the truth about the water damage but she said since we both had used iphone 3gs and iphone 4 smartphones, she would be nice and replace it for free. i guess dave being honest helped a bit, too.

One thing to try, is to use a hair dryer, on low heat setting, and 'breeze' the phone overnight, in a place where the phone is open to the air.  Then do the rice  imersion technique.  I have recovered a number of cell phones this way... (However, I have never owned an i-phone, so...).

Geez, I thought everyone knew that rice was a magic cure for wet devices.

just wait for the iphone 5 if you can't get the 4 working again but seriously buying that thing from apple is just like buying a MW  game always something thats gonna add to it.... really MW2 was ok but no servers is a joke and black ops removed the grip from the spas shotgun.... not to mention that all the DLC to get with it and now MW3 might not have servers.... sounds like Activation follow the same marketing scam as apple so we are just slaves? :troll: o_O

So the iPhone isn't very well suited to working in wet conditions? All this new fangled technology's got nothing over the old tech. I once had a Philips Savy that not only worked under water, but it had a polyphonic speaker until it dried. Although, I'm guessing the water didn't affect the iPhones flash support, so there's that.

Yes, I am not a fan of Apple mobile devices.

Rice is better as you can eat the rice after and get a built-in ring tone on it's way out.

I got a Nokia, and an Ericson respectively into champagne and river, i got them back from death with time and silica. So i guess that and rice is a good solution

Arileen Design;  Was 'your' OS working properly when you 'dunked' your nokia into champagne?

Use a hair dryer – Be very careful with this one. It can work for some people (it's worked for me), but you can also damage your iPhone this way. If you decide to try it, blow a hair dryer, on low power, on the wet iPhone about a day after it got wet. Don't use anything more intense than low power, though.

Remove your iPhone from the liquid and power off your device. Due to their conductive natures, water and other liquids short-circuit electronics. Do not power on your iPhone, charge it, or connect it to other devices without proper time to dry.

You revived a post that was 4 years old. I think by now Draginol has most likely replaced his iPhone a couple of times.
