Here's a replay of a 5v5 pro game for those of you who have the Diplomacy expansion (fully updated to v1.2, of course). Here's a chance to see how the pros play against other human players.
I just watched the replay, so here's my recap. The teams were:
-- Absolute Zer0 -- (me), [DT]Tyr222, OurTerra.com, [_]-Hiroge, and Dark Eyed Junco
against
[_]-Greyfox, Varona, Black Sword Command, and two smurfs using the exact same name, |1st| FAGOLAS ELF (a mockery of |1st| LEGOLAS ELF).
Team captains for the player draft were [DT]Tyr222 and one of the Elf smurfs.
I think the primary deciding factor was when OurTerra knocked out Greyfox early in the game, allowing him to build an economy. Other notable events were the early-game survival of Hiroge (with help from my starbases), suicide spot Tyr's loss of homeworld and subsequent migration, and the huge battles fought in the area between Dark Eyed Junco and Black Sword Command, which involved 6 or 7 players.
The game ended when Varona minidumped, but if you look at the stats, it was pretty much over anyway since the Tyr team led by 36 planets to 24 and had a credit lead of 486 to 195 (with my end-of-game income of 211 beating that of the entire Elf team). Metal income was 37 (Team Tyr) to 25 (Team Elf) and crystal was 21 (Team Tyr) to 17 (Team Elf).
good replay, greyfox... he should have spammed a lot of disciples, and started with a progen cap and tried to dig in earlier.
Varona and Fagolas should have worked better, the green fagolas should have let varona have that terran planet and instead increase his early game advantage over hiroge. Varona would have then been able to provide a lot more feed. Tyr's fight was interesting, he had the total upper hand, if he had only killed the constructors first! His cap was going to level faster than two skirantras already. It would have been wise if he had built at least 10 scouts, to send to the other asteroid to kill the other constructor so he could have shut off the enemies production by taking out the only frigate factory. Don't underestimate the power of scouts ! A temporary retreat would have been needed to re-accumulate forces. Send scouts in to snipe any constructor on the HW, and then send the main force back in with a 100% advantage. He had the cash to do it.

To bad grayfox got screwed over so soon.... but he sure held on throughout.
And I love that end battle with the 7 combined players in one asteroid world! What a show!
This replay was definitely interesting, not what I am used to seeing in my own games.
I think Greyfox probably should have just built his way toward the rest of Team Elf to make OurTerra pay dearly for his assault in a long drawn out retreat.
Pink Fagolas should have crushed Tyr with overwhelming numbers much faster instead of lingering. Tyr so pulled a Vasari!
Poor Greyfox got screwed over again today, starting in a suicide spot between Tyr and I.
Varona and I played a very good game just recently as well, and he mini'd right at the big battle between he and I. lol
