thank you.
i can understand all the comments here and i agree with one thing....keep the bad language out of comments, but if someone wants to post that this skin is not worth their purchase then thats their opinion, it can be done with dignity and without resorting to abusive language. if you don't like a skin, don't buy it. it's that simple and you should be able to tell the creator why you think the skin isn't worth the money but like i said it can be done with dignity and politeness ![]()
I'm with Uvah. That's the main point; I mean, the only REAL one. People that didn't spend a lot of time in learning how to skin don't have just any idea about how much work and what kind of skill are involved in a masterSkin. They don't really know what they are talking about,
Do ypu PROPERLY understand this?
Well, of course even MasterSkins can be given for free, as many MasterSkinners did, especially in the last months (some really great skins).
Sometimes it makes me think about technology stuff market. Technology sector, of course, is absolutely the "quickest". When a new model appears, is very expensive; after a while, it becomes always cheaper and cheaper..(new models has been released meanwhile), and not so rarely you can get some stuff for free in addition to something else you have to pay for (the so-called "promotional sellings").
That's the way things works.
I too find the proximity of the buttons confusing, neone6. This screenshot should help ![]()
The Left button is for Doc. The Right button is to report a post which you find objectionable. ![]()
Any Moderator will do .... they'll pass it on if they cannot handle it directly...;)
My simple working theory: If you don't like it, don't buy it.
I am glad some can make a few pennies from selling their WB skins, I personally have only bought one. I find most of the premium Skins for sale are no better in most respects than the free ones. I would also say some of the skinners who put out their product for free sometimes do a far better job at skinning all the elements in the skin and at times are more creative with use of their colour combinations.
I only purchase my Icons from Oh My Icons http://ohmyicons.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=2_8 which are far superior to any Icon packages I have found here at Stardock sorry but that is the way it is.
psst, PM'ing Jafo or ID usually gets the job done.
Nobody's obliged to buy something he (she
) dislikes...
I propose to this kind of brave posters to upload their work for free, so we can see what a good stuff is ![]()
the gist of it was not that she didn't like it,... she just didn't want to pay for it..... the old familiar masterskin whine.... only put very crudely...
there's always going to be someone like that, just have to keep your head up and continue
I don't think the comment was that she didn't like the skin, it was more that she wanted it for free and refuses to buy a master skin.
I've seen a few comments like that in the past but I don't remember one that turned vulgar.
It's a shame, it's not like master skins are making the author rich. Sometime I wonder if all of the work involved is worth the trouble that goes with it.
Actually there are several that will say "looks great but I can't/won't afford it", but there were also many that "turned vulgar".
Commercialism in skinning has been a "drama" ever since one guy called Brad actually turned a hobby into a business - without which this site and its community would not have existed.
I remember the undercurrents of 'disdain' way back in the days of skinz.org [I can admit to a bit of it then, too....through naivete], though it didn't reach a head 'til the advent of Wincustomize.com and the paranoia that surrounded the idea that 'our' skinning site was to be OWNED by a commercial interest [how quickly they ALL forgot eFront owning/destroying skinz.org].
Customize.org was the next battle ground, fought out between some of the dopiest skin site 'admins' and arguably the finest skinners known.
Stardock's creation of the Master Skin commercial option is just another episode in the long-running battle between those that do and those that think they know what should be done.
I'm sure the journey is far from over....;)
PS...Tim every skin you make is worth the money...
I'm with skinhit. If I could I'd snatch up every master skin there is because IMO they're all worth it.
It looks like a really fantastic skin, Tim, but everything you do is pretty fantastic. If I had discretionary spending, I'd buy it (and study it, and see how you did it, and learn from it--because for me, it's not just a skin, it's an education at the hands of a master) -- You know what kind of a monkey wrench her comment put your day into -- can you imaging what sort of life she lives if she feels compelled to "go there" in the comments section of a skin? Sad...it's really sad.
Damn straight.
Thanks ![]()
Tim, didn't I read a comment by you a few years ago that said you made your skins WITHOUT skin studio? Don' know if that is still the case but it was damn impressive at any point.
Your stuff has always been top notch SOLID performance, crisp and clean graphics and the classiest looking around. Don't ever give up your status as king of the masters (IMO) because of a foul mouthed brainfart like that.
Heck, I think I own every one of your (Essorant's) skins besides this one. I'm going to go purchase it just because of this poster.
Man, if you charged an hourly rate for using your skins, you could have been fairly well-off from me.
There once was a time when there WAS no SkinStudio [or Builderblinds]....when men were men and sheep were nervous....er....when skinning was trial/error and editing code in notepad ....;)
Ewe cant mean it.. ![]()

Yes - I still make my skins without SKS - although I do use it to check new stuff, check my layers and build animations, and I regularly compare my skins with others just to see what I might be missing out. I would recommend that all new skinners use SKS though - it's really a great tool.
