Bigger planets

For Rebellion I think it would be cool to have a planet play a bigger part of the strategy in a gravity well.

Having ships be able to orbit the gravity well would be a great addition.

Having planetary based defensive upgrades that are more effective closer to the planet surface would be interesting as well.

Making planets be more pivotal to strategy would be a step in the right direction.  Perhaps an expansion beyond rebellion could incorporate improved planetary play....  space to ground assaults in sins!  <<< I can dream, but seriously a great way to go with this game :)

i think space to ground assaults does not fit in with the sins play style.

I would like to see improved planetary play, but not in the ways you suggested.

Perhaps additional upgrades could be in order, more population, logistics, (but please keep tactical slots the same), perhaps even make it slightly more profitable/plausible to explore planets for artifacts.  New artifacts wouldn't hurt either.

Agree there

know it's probably already been put forward, but what about planet guns, extra bit of help against those pesky pirates

My planet mod should also help with that as the standard hp of planets is 30k not 7500.

What would be really nice is more types of planets with different stats like more HP or with more capacity of population. Or maybe the ability to interact with the planet's living life/locals (if they exist) to get extra special bonus or just to destroy them which would affect the economy and the diplomacy for instance, I think it could bring a lot of potencial for the gameplay.

Star I also don't think ground assault would work in this game...but if they were to make an mmo... anyways I accept my right to dream about it.

Your suggestions quoted above ar good, I agree that people who get rushed early and completely cut off should have SOME way to increase their ability to build labs to counter a tech up.  The cost for additional upgrades of logistics slots could be very high for any upgrade past the standard planetary limit(perhaps as high as a starbase upgrade level).  Likewise Asteroids should have very little upgrade options and shouldn't be upgraded as much as a regular planet.

A planetary capture option would be interesting If you were able to satisfy certian criteria (no enemy starbase, no enemy fleet in orbit, specialized bombardment ships, Having your starbase IN the orbit).  This might provide a useful increase of bombardment ships early on to surprise steal an enemy world.  Or it could be clunky and unfeasible, either way this is just a design suggestion.  Good design on this could increase the options players have.

Planetary exploration as a whole should be re-done and be more important to game play overall.

Your PLANETS should make your empire as much as your orbital structures.  Adding different planetary upgrades and a rethinking of the basic planet system in place would be interesting.  Being able to invest more in a single planet would really add an important aspect to planetary play.

Perhaps adding a certain planet could increase costs of upgrades or structures at that planet to diversify the difficulties/advantages possible when making an empire.

anyways thats my 2+1 cents

there is a space-based mmo, (EVE), why would Stardock launch a game to try to compete with an already firmly entrenched space MMO with a massive and loyal fanbase?

Because Ironclad can make a better MMO than EVE. There is no competition if you blow them out of the water :)

Also, Eve is outdated and has several intolerable design limitations for a space mmo.  Eve can't release a patch and "change its whole game". Space gates suck.  Not being able to directly control your ship really really blows.  Eve has horrible pvp.  Eve is ruled by a bunch of despotic super nerds. Many aspects of the game need to be totally redone to be even considered a modern mmo.

A Sins MMO would naturally have to innovative and add a lot to the space genre that the world hasn't seen yet.  Ironclad has proven that it is capable of doing this.  Seems straightforward to me, if you have a good team, you can conquer the world.  Just look at Blizzard :)
