Creating a new skin...Do I need DesktopX, Skin Studio and Windows Blind in order to do it?

Hello Everyone. I have a really great Idea for a new Windows 7 Skin and want to be able to create it this summer. I want to be able to change the icons, which I know you can do with the Desktop X, and I also want to change a ton of other things.

My main question is before going crazy and purchasing these, will I need Skin Studio AND Windows Blind in order to do what I want to, or will I need all three?

Also, is therir a safe environment where I can create the skin before applying it to my computer without wreaking my current settings or should i get a dummy computer with Windows 7 to test this out on?

Thanks For all the Help. I hope to learn a lot while I am here.

From,

Matthew

You don't need Desktop X to do a windowbling or icons. If you maske icons you will need  IconPackager if you want to package them and change a lot of icons at one time on your desktop.

For making a windowblind you need to purchase windowblinds in order to see what you are doing. Also gives you the ability to use many windowbling skins. The best thing for you to do is purchase Object Desktop

See no reason to use a special computer when trying your new WB as you are making it. You make it as a .wba file extension and installs in windowblinds. You just open windowblinds up select it to see how things are looking and then just change back to another skin.

Maybe someone else will pop on with additional information.

Does anyone have the time to write me up a tutorial on how to use these programs or show me links to where they are? I would really like to learn.

Easy answer. Click on the word Forums at the top of the home page. Inside you will find a section called tutorials. There are tutorials for Windowblinds, DesktopX and a few others. You can bookmark those pages and read them at your liesure. Note: Purchasing Object Desktop is the best way to go. It is relatively inexpensive and you can get several of the applications for a fraction of what it would cost had you bought them separately. You also get unlimited downloads and free upgrades for a year. Good deal, yes.

@DaveBax ... Windowbling?

whenever I try and download a skin to apply it to my desktop all I get is a stupid picture. How can I download the skin that I want? I have both the WindowsBlinds and SkinStudio 7. It still will not let me do it.

Sounds like you may be in the screenshots gallery instead of the WindowBlinds gallery.

Uvah, leave me alone. Sticky keyboard, good thing I like you. Besides isn't windowblinds bling? Windowblinds makes your computer flashy, therefore bling.

Why yes; yes it is. And I DO love my WindowBLINGS!  Don't you?

And anybody that can make them has my respect.

I finally got the nerve to download the free version of Skin Studio. HA! I couldn't make heads or tails of it. The tut seemed clear, but to DO it?

But I guess I have a good excuse on why I couldn't figure it out.

I'm stupid.  :(

If that were the case MouseGoddess you wouldn't be doing what you're doing. It takes time, patience and a lot of playing around in the app. Don't be discouraged. If at first you don't succeed ... you know the rest. Just have fun with. The more you do the more you learn. Hang in there love.
