1.19 Bugs and AI

How can I lose?

Game Details:

Size: medium     Tech Speed: normal     World Difficulty: normal     Objects: no master quest or master magic, all else on

Other Settings: defaults

AI Players:

  • Two Kingdoms set to Hard
  • One Empire set to Hard
  • One Empire set to Extreme
  • One Empire set to Ridiculous

Game Progress / Info / Etc:

Started off fairly well next to two shards (fire, air) and next to a farm. I found city right away, work on founding second city as soon as I can next to a farm and a gold mine. Arcane library and oasis are also within my territory by the time of my 2nd city being founded. I found another city on an Empire's border later on in order to protect some iron. They declare war on me. The next 50 turns or so are of the AI reinforcing their cities, in reaction to the war they just declared. They are far more powerful than me. They have me out numbered. My sovereign is standing next to stacks of their armies, and they are running away from me. I cannot attack with my lonely sovereign because I, unlike the AI apparently, recognize that I will get my ass kicked if a conflict occurs. Instead I run around in their territory, stomping out their improvments (goldmine, shard, others) while they just continue to cower in fear of my lonely sovereign and rebuild the improvements that I am stomping out. I lose patience, and end the game.

Bugs (not related to AI):

  • My sovereign's portrait was replaced with the portrait of a newly designed unit.
  • The Arcane Weapon spell can be stacked repeatedly on the same unit. I wasn't able to cast it on my familiar.
  • I hired a NPC with royality. When I put her in my city, prestige was not raised.
  • The info card on improvements always state that the improvement has 0 turns left until it is constructed.
  • Improvements can be built (at least by the AI) on tiles that are occupied by enemy forces.

Bugs / Issues (AI):

  • The AI continues to rebuild improvements whilst enemies are right next to the improvement tile (complete waste of $$).
  • The AI does not defend improvement tiles.
  • The AI retreats (on the strategic map) when it has superiority in numbers and strength.
  • The AI declares war and doesn't attack - they run away.
  • Tactical AI is still brain dead. Entire enemy army followed my familiar around the map while I killed my enemies with arcane arrow.

Saves:

  • The "phase 1" save is prior to war.
  • The "phase 2" saves are during the "war".
  • Link to zip of saves: http://filebin.ca/kpaeyt/Saves.zip
  • Please let me know if the files become unavailable, I'll put them back up.

FYI, these occur in 1.11:

  • The info card on improvements always state that the improvement has 0 turns left until it is constructed.
  • Improvements can be built (at least by the AI) on tiles that are occupied by enemy forces.

Bugs / Issues (AI):

  • The AI continues to rebuild improvements whilst enemies are right next to the improvement tile (complete waste of $$).
  • The AI does not defend improvement tiles.

I've experienced all of these in 1.11, and have a single wimpy unit standing next to the resource to kill it each turn.  Another interesting thing related to the AI and resource building is that if a resource has been built on previously by the AI, and is subsequently destroyed, the rebuilding takes 1 turn, not the original build time.

Some things I had happen are that my game crashed after getting Janusk, then when it loaded back up to the turn before the crash, there was no more Janusk and he never showed up.  I was able to build a Market before researching Civics.

Odd things happen on reloads - seems more prevalent than in 1.09e?

I will naturally only save a game during my own turn, so how is it that when i reload my own save, i cop half a dozen battles that never happened on the turn i made the save?? It seems like any enemy creatures that are adjacent to any of my units are forced attack on reload?

Just got my first error message. I hit the windows button so I can exit the game so I can surf the net. I made a post here, and  when I came back, I got an error message. Sorry I forgot what it said, I hit enter to fast.

Just letting the developers know it happened. I will make sure next time, I read what it said.

Happened again. "DX error invalid cell" it said. I never had this problem before.

Great stuff TheProgress! I hope you don't mind if I add these to the Demandobot AI thread. Kudos for including savegames!

Played for about 3 hours straight. Saved a game, and it froze. I hit the windows button to see what it could be then got the "out of memory" error.

I never had this before again, before the beta 1.19 patch. Hope this info helps.

Most of my OOM crashes in 1.11 happened during auto saves or on manual saves. During the save process it seems to use even more memory and if it was starting to get near an OOM error already then this tends to push it over the edge. Its the reason my autosaves are set to every 2 turns.

I made the mistake of downloading the 1.19 beta and now get an error message saying I can't get a data file.  I turned my malware program to gamer mode and turned the Windows firewall off and got the same message.  I was hoping the 1.19 version would  fix the frequent game crashes, sometimes with out of memory errors, other times without.  I was starting to like the game a little despite the crashes until this latest problem.  I don't understand why some developers can get this done and you can't.  Plus all the rigamorale to tell you about numerous errors puts the burden on customers. Too bad.

I'm also unable to play the 1.19 beta.

When I start the game it tells me it's unable to download.

What's the deal here?

I had the same problem with being "unable to load data file". Disabling firewall didn't help. However, you can get past it. Don't click ok, press 'esc'. Seriously. It bypasses the screen and you get to play the game.

Being able to cast Arcane Weapon multiple times on the same hero completely breaks the game.  As soon as you research that spell the game is over as you can one hit any enemy.

So the Arcane Weapon thing is a bug. I'm not sure if anyone else noticed, but there is now a popout menu when you cast a spell on a stack that has multiple valid recipients. Unfortunately, if there is only one valid recipient, it automaticcally targets the first unit in the stack instead of the remaining valid recipient. There's still one valid recipient, so you can do it again, and again...

There isn't a popout window for the mobility spells. There's a bug with the entropy spell where the AI sov casts it from across the battlefield (Irene in the game I played). It was nice to see her use it, but she wiped out 3 of my team as entropy worked the way it is supposed to for me and I didn't have a blink spell. X(
