I don't see how Civ fanboyz couldn't be the worst. They are backed by 2k which I believe stacks the deck using shills. These people are there 24-7 to post immediately if you post a dissenting remark. Most aspire to work there, are beta testers, or other types of coders. I found one guy who was actually a beta tester there. His name is Dale. He can say whatever he wants to you in response to your post, but when you reply back even briefly it is trolling. Pretty much any type of dissent is conveniently classified trolling. Meanwhile the same person you responded to and got in trouble will post 20 more times in the thread. Usually extremely long paragraphs to the point where it will take up more than half of the page. You can't even comment on it. I was banned from 2k the day Civ V came out, and I thought that I was being well behaved. I posted about a number of bugs, and problems my friend had experienced. Suddenly I'm responding to people saying I don't even have a friend. Not to mention that the bugs really don't exist. It's impossible for you not to be able to get onto Steam. Everything you are saying is completely idiotic. What do you mean your friends game isn't really on the disk do you know how ignorant you are sounding? If your friend bought the game why isn't he here? Why wouldn't he have the internet at his house no such person even exists. Steam servers are never busy either you're a troll. Banned!

Everything I said was later proven true of course, but no apologies from the fanboys or anyone else. I came back much later and found that post I had made, and responded that it was true. Banned for trolling. I found the Civfanatics sites and others linked to them exactly the same. No surprise really as I stared at the 1up banner selling the game.

Feel free to comment on that Shafer, heh.

Holy crap, come to think of it I posted my experience of trying to get the game up and running and all the problems I encountered. I was quite civil and didn't even comment on the gameplay. My post was deleted 2 hours later!

Not to mention... I got spam in my inbox after registering on the forums. I'm not talking about monthly newsletter spam, I'm talking about male enhancement spam. I had the hotmail account for months before and hadn't used it since it was brand new.

Yes, I am sure that an angry customer stuck a web bot on their forum to do it. The posts about male enhancements and such will sometimes stay there all day it's good humor. Most of them try to sell phones, ipods, and laptops with no return phone number. Classic.

Dale is absolutely brutal. I cannot fathom how he can moderate or help run the We play civ forums the way he carries on on the Civ fanatics forums and the 2K Forums.

He certainly has a hate on for Stardock and loves taking jabs at Brad, Kael, Sullla and other extremely talented people.

He also says ciV is basically bug free and calls people that have problems with bugs "liars" or worse. Personally, I think he has severe emotional problems or life issues that cause him to act the way he does. In that way, I feel sorry for him.

However, I have found the moderators on Civ Fanatics to be pretty good. They have chopped Dale down to size a few times when he's gotten out of hand. They really do do the best they can.

Batman fanboys.

Only a superman fanboy would post this.

Actually, I'm The Green Hornet. But don't tell anyone, I'm working undercover.

People who deride others as fanboys, when the fact that they even know how to get to this forum makes them a fanboy?

Yeah, that gets my vote.

Actually, I would have to say Fallout fanboys, man did I have some battles with those guys when Fallout 3 came out.  I loved the old Fallouts too, but I love Bethesda and loved Fallout 3.  Damn those guys are crazy.

Dale is how I came to use the word shill. Others such as aeligos or zephyrtr I could be inclined to believe were actually disturbed. I observed how they work in a tandem with some others to flame a thread to crap instantly. As troglyte says his thread simply disappeared. I've witnessed them do this on several occasions where someone makes a legitimate post. They try to start a flame war with the poster, and if that fails they'll just spam the hell out of the thread. Boom, thread closed... deleted, whatever. It's toast. The main point I want to make regarding that is they are allowed to do it. If you make one post they don't like you're a troll. Check your inbox you've got 3 warnings about it now and by the time you read them you're banned for a few days. Meanwhile they're still in the thread you created trashing it and calling you every name in the book.

I thought for the first month that civfanatics was going to tow the line, but they appear to have relented. In my opinion it had become to obvious for them to continue censoring. Make no mistake though. They did have several polls on whether or not any dissenters should be allowed to post. It annoyed them.

Yep. You seem to have summed the situation up pretty well. The suck ups and brown nosers  are running the show on the 2K Forums. I realized shortly after the release of ciV what a pathetic joke they are. Any criticism of the game was silenced very quickly.

At least Civ Fanatics lets you voice your discontent to an extent. I got tired of it after awhile though. I still post on their occasionally if I find something amusing to comment on.

Anyway, I find the Stardock forums a refreshing change of pace. You can be critical and actually debate with the CEO and the developers if you so choose. There can actually be reasonable debate. Having a forum of yes men/women does no one any favours.
