Backgrounds on Pop-up menues...

Almost finished when I discover that when I try 2 change the background on Pop-up menues and favourites it shows in skinstudio as if it will be applied, but then when I launch the skin......Just white background-nothing changed...  Did this procedure as with the rest of how you change backgrounds on shellparts, but here with the pop-up menues...Shows in skinstudio but when launched, Nothing, no change.  PLEASE HELP ME, I´m almost finished with the rest of the skin.../Andrew/neone6. No need to post twice neone6. Once is enough. Be patient.

Hmm, sounds strange, other that some text issues these are pretty much straight forward graphics.

would you post a picture of what your pop-up background shows in SKS and what the result is when applied.

Idont know how 2 put a pic. here, But theres really no need. It´s as simple as this: I choose the picture in the "skin picturelist".....then it shows like it should in SKS. Then I SAVE SKIN, Launch it, and rightclicks 4 the menue...MENUE comes alright, but with a simple whiteish background......looks like somekind of default.... ?

P L E A S E help me, this is my second skin. My first was based on another so I never did this from SCRATCH.....  :(

There are 2 types of pop up menus on XP one is the main menu right click etc... The other is for favorites and start menu pop up .Thee first menu needs a png file but the favorites and start menu pop up MUST be bmp. ;)

Also if it happens under right click on the desktop the take a look at the 1st state of the menu item as it is painted on top of the menu!

BTW....

Idont know how 2 put a pic. here

Just get the problem to show the press the PrtScr button  paste in PhotoShop and save as jpg ....Then goto imageshack.com upload copy the code that says Direct link , come back here in the box we are typing into there is a button with a tree on it click it paste code in top box ( image url) ;) :)

1st after clicking Background on the left of SKS then look at the tabs on the bottom of SKS you will see a Tabb called "Extra Settings" click on it then the second option down called "Use Flat Menus" by default it is set to enabled you must set to disabled in the check box to the right.

2nd as for the mouse over item defaultly it is a .bmp file to make it trans parent you must mmake the image and save as a .png with transparent background note it is 5 states.

My best advice would be to download a good quality skin 4+ stars and then open it in SKS (you can have more than one instance of SKS open at one time) this way you can click a part in your skinn and click the same part in another skin and see how they did it !

thanks for tip on the favorites menu Harley, always wondered why it looked weird.

that is the menu item listed below the background. you need to have a graphic for that unless you want a solid color then it can be changed from the "change skin colors" section. click on the combo box to select system colors. color is on the third row down, second color from the left. but solid colors look shitty. I guess you can use the margin or text margin setting to place it where you want.

neone6, it doesn't look like you're that close to finishing this blind.

I'll take a look at the blind if you want, PM me for my email address and some info on packaging it up.

I looked at his last WB attempt and advised him to do the same, Harley. Best tip for any potential WB skinner...IMHO.

Yep ,Rick you are 110% correct!

Here are 3 good one to use as guides....

https://www.wincustomize.com/explore/windowblinds/6152/

https://www.wincustomize.com/explore/windowblinds/6378/

https://www.wincustomize.com/explore/windowblinds/6473/

All 3 are for XP only (what I thought I read some where you were using)which should help reduce some confusion any of these or all of these would make good template skins.

I saw the other skin and some of the confusion , Let me try to help  here........

IDEAL SCENARIO

Download of these skin rename it then REMAKE EVERY SINGLE IMAGE DO NOT MISS ONE ( you can do this by setting PS(I assume)as your default editor then just hit the edit button) then draw your new image directly on top of the old one ( Paying close attention to placement and keeping the original on a separate bottom layer)then hide or delete the bottom (old image) this way none of the original graphics are left.

So if you change the names and use NO Original images It is pretty much yours.

Why not start from scratch? Well just like with the menu item earlier some images get changed as well as alot of those settings like disabling those flat menus earlier will already be done you just have to create your images! ;)

Hope it helps:)

Great advice -- I have only one thing to add -- After every change you make, or when you're done with a skinning session -- save your changes by making .wba file!  That way if you mess something up on the next change/session, you have a good saved copy of the skin to revert back to.
