[1.09t] has anyone had any crashes at all?

We're looking to button up for v1.1 over the next couple days.  We haven't had any crashes with 1.09t internally or in QA and we're not seeing any external reports.  Has anyone had any technical problems with 1.09t? Do you guys think it's ready to proceed to v1.1?

There are still lots of bug reports in the support section.  I think the beta a day process has been very fruitful.  I don't think you should rush 1.1.

I could answer you if only I've found a way to get 1.09t. Impulse says that 1.09e is the last version.

Yes, I have a CTD everytime I play. Never make it over 50 turns.

And every thing is updated on my computer... I have confidence it will be taken care of.

The only CTD I've had is when I backed out of a game into the menu and clicked on the custom faction button. But, I loaded the game back up and it worked fine. In the game I haven't crashed yet (and I normally do).. I've been played for a few hours straight without a problem.

Although, my dynasty screen was messed up, it appeared to be stacking all my heir baby icons on top of my sovereign's, and also that they were like 24+ years of age and I still didn't see them on the map, and they were still represented by baby icons. I'm thinking it was just a small glitch, I'll try a new campaign today and see if it happens again.

ive played 2-3 hours no crashes so far.... however fps seems very poor, starcraft 2 for example on medium settings i average 40-60 fps Elemental medium to low settings I average 15-30 fps. My laptop far exceeds minium specs, yet performance is still quite bad.

hmm its very very stable now

i had some out of memory :( and alt tab makes my game crash and in the 600+ turns  the game is very slow

but thats all first time i can enjoy the game :D

I will play for ten hours and let you know. (I am serious)

I for one cannot remember the last crash I had in Elemental, which is quite something as they used to be an indication that I need to button things up and go to bed.   Suffice to say, my sleep schedule has suffered considerably.

As far as that goes, I think 1.1's ready, but there are still some balancing issues that need to be resolved (overly anemic and badly scaling tactical magic, a little bit more emphasis on specialists though just a little bit, as it's almost just right) and polishing, polishing, polishing.   Updated tooltips, loading screen hints, presentation bugs; that kind of thing.   As this weekend we'll have a version that's going to remain stable for a few days (the patching's been awesome and my friends are shocked when I say how quick and responsive you guys have been), it'll be an excellent time to get in some serious playtesting on the current version.   I'll be making a feedback thread tomorrow based on a variety of games played with a number of different factions, to get a feel of the current state of the game from different angles.

But, as I said in the last patch thread, I think we're close.  Very close.    Remember though, that Elemental 1.1 is going to basically be a large number of people's second impression of the game--a second chance at regaining reputation that most games and software companies don't get.   So it needs to be right, the first time.

Played one (ongoing) game for a bit more than 3 hours without crashes. Usually it crashes sooner than that. That said, before I had to close the game I was like:

Debug Message:  - Ending Turn 239 -

Debug Message:  Current Memory Usage: 1587232 KB

Debug Message:  Cities in World: 13

Debug Message:  Units in World: 333

So maybe it was a matter of some turns more. :P

Elemental has been very stable for me now for quite a while. Even alt-tabbing from traditional 'danger spots' like tactical battles has been fine. I'm not sure if it occurred in 1.0.9.t but the only crashes I've been having are if I play one game then start a new game without closing down.

Give FatNonFree some more time to find crashes.  In fact, give us all some more time to find crashes.  Let us play it over the weekend.  I haven't played more than 50 turns and would like to see what sort of end game issues there are.  I still think there are too many bugs to be thinking 1.1 is ready.  Just look at the forums.  I think you guys are missing or not recording a bunch of reported issues in the known issues section.  You should do that!

Here's a few off the top of my head that I think should be addressed before releasing 1.1.

1) AI is still producing way too many pioneers and not enough defenders... not to mention all of the AI's pioneers should be defended when they go out (think Civ here!)

2) There are several goodie huts that don't show up on the cloth map.  They are in the world, but not visible from the cloth map.

3) The Adventure/Domination techs are so poorly worded (or have the same words) that nobody knows what we're researching without checking the forums.  How many times do we have to mention this one?

4) Notification window pile up... We can't release 1.1 with windows that say "You've just finished researched, what would you like to research next?" so you click on it and get buried by another window that says "You've just finished researching a spell, what would you like to research next?" so you click on it and get "Capital City is now idle" so you click on BUILD and another window pops up saying "Your Sovereign is being attacked" so you go to the tactical battle and when the tactical battle is over that is it.  You're left with all this undone research, spellbook, city idle stuff that you have to manually go back and take care of.

5) I've noticed movement quirkiness (did you change something to do with the way mouse-clicking works on tiles in the last 1 or 2 patches?)

6) Quest quirkiness ... I've noticed that I'm not always getting the text popups telling me i've just finished the quest or what to do next in the last 1 or 2 patches.

7) Camera quirkiness ... I use "ZOOM ON BUILD" and something has changed in the last 1 or 2 patches in that now after I build something in the Zoom mode, it intermittently stays in Zoom mode.  In other words, even if I click on my sovereign to move him next, I'm still in that Zoom mode and I have to manually adjust it.

Monsters still stop spawning half way through the game for me. I have made several threads on it but have never gotten a response.

We've looked into this.  What I think happens i that there is a world population level for monsters that if exceeded won't increase.

Good to hear and yea, I agree, there is always more to do.

The question I guess we have to ask is, do we, as a group want to have 1.09 (the released version) be the version through Christmas or do we want to move to 1.1 and then continue on to 1.2.  Right now, we're in lockout so I can't really add more AI stuff until after v1.1.  So obviously I'm anxious to move forward on that.

But on the other hand, I am very keen to demonstrate to our fans that Stardock HAS addressed the QA issues that bogged the initial release of the game.  In short, is v1.09t sufficiently superior to v1.09 (public release from October) to safely release to the general public?

Great works you've all done Frogboy!  Thank you for your dedication to our game, and for exceeding my post release expectations by a long margin!  It makes me feel good in a world of cheap swag that some guys still care about product and the end user.

Is anything happening in the sausage factory as relates to resource spawns?  A number of us have commented on a fun drain caused by the lack of resources + the proximity of opponents.

Recently I have noticed a tactical battle performance boost when I purge my Race file (might also be the units file).  I've just had time to test 2 cycles (purge vs non-purge).  After deleting custom factions, I am able to play every single tactical battle I enter (note:  I create and play a new custom faction).  If I do not delete the old custom factions, then most of the tactical battles cause a crash.   I am playing on an under spec'd machine.  But I find this occurance interesting, and perhaps it is of use to you?  Does this indicate a memory leak occuring here, or some other buggy behaivor? I intend to run a total of 12 test cycles (12 purge, 12 non-purge), but I must do some work first.  Will check back later and continue the testing unless you tell me there is no need.

For me; Yes absolutely.

I've not had time to sit down the 1.09t yet, but even as of 1.09s the game is enormously stable for the first 200-300 turns, and what crashes there are seem to have very specific hangups which cause the issues.

Additionally, the little balance, polish, and gameplay alterations made between public release and 1.09 have done a tremendous amount to push Elemental from "playable if I have nothing in particular to be doing" to "my choice of activity when I have time to choose".

I would agree that you should give us until next Thursday to "break" the current beta build (and the next if necessary), but we are in pretty darn good shape as it stands.

If nothing else, i think i would address this gui issue as it is a great distraction and shows a lack of polish to the game. It's like playing a game of memory where everything is presented to you in 15 seconds and you have to remember everything you need to do this turn to keep the game economy churning forward. I'd like to say more but Christmas activities call and i risk being shot by my wife. Have a great weekend guys.

Thanks Frogboy for your response. Nice to know someone is working on it.

Sorry if that sounds rude, but i think the QA issues were not the only reason why Elemental was rated very low. Your improvements of the game and your customer support are great, but i think you should take the time to complete important parts of Elemental (tactical combat with initiative system, magic system with many options, diplomacy system) first.

There are still features that do not function correctly (particularly regarding tactical combat), at least some of which have been reported since the fucking 1.0x versions of the game.  So, no, I don't think this is 1.1-release-ready until you fix the obvious problems.  Not if you want to prove that SD is taking quality control seriously.  Plus there are still crashes, or at least freezes, still present - I'm in the process of posting about one in the support section now (edit: or not, since there's no crash log where it's supposed to be and the freeze doesn't appear reproducible from the autosave - ugh).

If I sound frustrated or pissed off, it's because I don't understand why issues that have been repeatedly reported stay unfixed while devs post threads like this one.

I do experience crashes with 1.09t

Here's debug

I thought it is erased with every start but this one is 59MB (?)

With this patch the CTD's are not that often but the hang-ups are. The 1.09 p was much more stable for me.

" is v1.09t sufficiently superior to v1.09 (public release from October) to safely release to the general public?"

IMHO No! It still has many things that need to be fixed. Crazy pop-up order, daring stike children, funny working idle units finder, no autopilot's lines (that's my favourite) or some really visible indication that the unit isn't idle, skip tile in tactical.

Lots of thing are better right now. But this is still WIP. It may be enjoyable for people that bought it at release but nor for 'general public'

I didn't play much versions in the past but on 1.09t I got huge influence on my starting city. Influence is for me a big growing square now and i can get access to far away resources very soon.

I stoped playing because I really don't feel good with this advatage. It ruins totally city positioning.

Gamplay is lightyears ahead of where it was

However I crashed last night about to enter into tactical combat - sovereign, 1 peasant, 1 familiar and 1 champion against what looked like about 7 spiders and 1 bandit. Hard to say as about half a second after entering the tactical combat screen it CTD'd.

Only crasht though in about 7 hours of gameplay across s and t.
